Paula Vennells has arrived at the inquiry to answer to her part in the Post Office Scandal. The Mirror says how much her life has changed without her highly lucrative job and losing the opportunity to become Bishop of London. I care not one jot for how her life has changed because it won't have changed as much as the poor postmasters and mistresses.

She is doing her best to make herself seem incompetent rather than the unfeeling arrogant bitch that she is, but it won't wash. Jason Beer is doing a superb job.

Iam64 As somene who spent their whole working life in industry. I instantly recognised the kind of appointment you describe. There are far too many such appointments and I suffered under several.

Hear hear Iam 👏 I fully agree. This woman was so full of herself coupled with her ‘righteousness’ and of course being a pal of Justin Welby did her no harm and added to her currency. Sycophants will have flocked around her. “All the gear and no idea” comes to mind. It’s frightening to contemplate how on earth she got to this very high profile and very lucrative position.

I don’t believe she was a useful idiot Callistemon, sadly my impression so far is she was appointed as some senior managers are because of her arrogance, her absolute belief in her abilities and determination to stand on anyone who challenged her
GSM what could she be charged with?
Her career is over whatever the outcome of this inquiry
Hail the KC and the Judge

Iam64

I’ve listened to this when driving then unpacking my shop.
The KC is excellent.
Paula Vennells is coming over as cold, calculating, cunning and far from honest.

I'm not sure what to make of her

Either cold, calculating, cunning and far from honest

Or a useful idiot, appointed because she was clueless and could be used by the other managers to cover up what they were doing and who should all be charged.

Who appointed her?

Conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Dogmum2 Wed 22-May-24 14:52:15

Surely ignorance and incompetence (or, as in this case, lies and cover-up) is no excuse for gross negligence in their role in as much they have a responsibility to their employee's, to keep them safe etc.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 22-May-24 14:51:17

I would speculate that any further career prospects for Ms Vennell have been well and truly scuppered. She will be remembered, forever, for her part in this shocking debacle. Maybe that is the best "punishment ".

Jaxjacky Wed 22-May-24 14:38:09

Criminal negligence possibly I think.

keepingquiet Wed 22-May-24 14:35:01

I know so many in management like her, male and female. The don't usually get caught and just carry on ruining people's lives regardless.
There is something of the bear pit about this.
There are quite a fewer higher ups, especially in government, who will get away with it too.

AGAA4 Wed 22-May-24 14:29:41

Vennells knowingly lied and covered up a gross miscarriage of justice. To me that would be a crime but I don't know enough about the law to be able to tell if it's a chargeable offence. If it's not it should be

nanna8 Wed 22-May-24 14:20:50

Something like deception and deceiving the public.I don’t know British law. Fraud ? Knowingly causing harm ?

Smileless2012 Wed 22-May-24 14:18:53

Lying; a cover up.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 22-May-24 14:14:54

With what would you charge her?

Bridie22 Wed 22-May-24 13:51:43

Her tears don't wash with me, she should be prosecuted and jailed, plus made to return her bonuses, redundancy monies etc!

nanna8 Wed 22-May-24 13:13:49

She should not be able to get away with it. That just isn’t right and would give a terrible message to all the other snakes out there.

Jaxjacky Wed 22-May-24 13:12:18

She gave her CBE.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 22-May-24 13:11:37

She seems to have been a remarkably useless CEO, if anything she has said can be believed.

silverlining48 Wed 22-May-24 13:05:44

Or her CBE.?

mokryna Wed 22-May-24 13:03:01

Has she given back her bonuses?

Namsnanny Wed 22-May-24 13:01:08

I have no sympathy for her. Zilch, zero.
But let's not forget all those who oversaw this fraud.
17 (?) Ministers, at least. How I wish they could pay for their part in all this.

God bless Computer Weekly, Private Eye, and Alan Bates.

People slithering their way to the top of the tree and then *** on the little people.

DH has been watching, I have been out, he reached saturation point and has now turned off.

Cossy Wed 22-May-24 12:32:39

She’s an utter lying hypocrite (imo) and deserves everything that’s coming her way!
