I am not sure if it will be possible over the next 42 days, but I thought it would be fun to try to see. How the polls perform after the various gaffs that the politicians will inevitably make.

Whilst the gap is huge at the moment, it will almost certainly close as the days go by.

I think I’ll use Politico (poll of polls)

Oh yes.

Note to self “ stop doing two things at once” 😄

Casdon Wed 26-Jun-24 19:41:54

Yes, that’s what I meant Whitewavemark2, if the LiB Dems were the opposition, it wouldn’t matter what the Tories thought about PR, because they wouldn’t be in a position of power.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 26-Jun-24 19:36:07

casdon according to the Mirror MRP latest poll has the Lib Dems in opposition.

It would certainly give our rotten electoral system a shake up if the Conservatives got twice as many votes as the Liberal Democrats but one less seat!

That might make them think twice about the need for Proportional Representation.

Actually, it wouldn’t matter what they thought, because they wouldn’t be the main opposition anyway if that happened?

11 less seats according to that poll.

Good point varian. Other European countries manage without fptp

The words LibDem and ‘opposition’ just don’t go together in my brain! ( but I could get used to it grin).

😄😄😄

Must be another thick Labour voter then if he thinks under Starmer/Labour he's going to get an increase in his pension, he'll be worse off 😂😂😂

What evidence do you have for that claim?

varian Wed 26-Jun-24 18:34:21

Nick Clegg let us all down by making two bad mistakes - caving in to Tory policy on tuition fees and settling for a referendum on AV (which nobody wanted) instead of PR.

Iam64 Wed 26-Jun-24 18:32:09

Varian- 👏
I’ve no difficulty believing this
I dislike Nick Clegg from the outset. He caused damage to the Lib Dem’s then cleared off. Be great to have a liberal social democratic voice in the HoC

varian Wed 26-Jun-24 18:23:37

I was interviewed by a pollster yesterday. So if you read tomorrow that "highly educated old folk vote Liberal Democrat", you''ll know they're talking about me.

Nicenanny3 Wed 26-Jun-24 18:17:28

Here's a new poll. Also have any of you been asked who you are voting for? I haven't. Remember the Brexit poll when Remain was a dead cert and the 1992 I think it was, the Neil Kinnock moment although perhaps that was prior to social media.

Casdon Wed 26-Jun-24 17:57:42

I’ve reached the point where there are not a lot of revelations or misdemeanours, prior to or during this election period that would shock me. It feels like all the chickens are roosting at once, and it’s really not a pleasant place to be at all. I just hope all the bad apples bob up to the surface in the next week so people can vote for people with integrity, whichever party they represent. It’s getting b….y wearing now.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 26-Jun-24 17:18:46

“Strewth”! Libs are the opposition.

MRP poll projected results
Labour: 450 seats, up 247 seats

Lib Dems: 71 seats, up 60 seats

Conservatives: 60 seats, down 305 seats

SNP: 24 seats, down 24 seats

Reform UK: 18 seats, up 18 seats

Green Party: 4 seats, up 3 seats

Plaid Cymru: 4 seats, no change

Yes, Whitewavemark2, wrong choice of word by moi.
Please don't have a heart attack, I'll send you over some French wine to still your nerves ! You're right, nothing much seems to have happened in the polls since I drifted off abroad weeks ago. Who knows!?
PS. I'll be back to vote, went away definitely thinking one thing, but now a bit undecided. I'll keep checking in here. 🍷

Whitewavemark2 Wed 26-Jun-24 09:46:05

casdon AC anRC were saying in yesterday’s podcast that there has been a large shift away from Farage since his remarks- particularly amongst women.

Be interesting to see in the polls as they reflect the period since the remarks. A bit too early to tell at the moment.

joseanne I’m not remotely smug. In fact having a quiet heart attack because Labour have been here so often before and have not succeeded. That is why I simply can’t believe the polls.

LizzieDrip Wed 26-Jun-24 09:34:22

Casdon 👍

Casdon Wed 26-Jun-24 09:27:32

I would like us to keep the thread on track, it’s a really useful way of keeping abreast with everything that’s going on and the thoughts of others on the impacts. It will be interesting to see over next few days whether the poll of polls is affected by Farage’s comments about the Russia/Ukraine conflict, the betting issues (which I do think have long term implications for politicians and officials betting on political events, and might see legislation), or the final Leader debate, which is tonight. I wonder what today will bring, it’s been not a dull moment this week.

LizzieDrip Wed 26-Jun-24 08:45:22

… not in the slightest bit smug!

LizzieDrip Wed 26-Jun-24 08:44:31

WW just realised I misinterpreted your 😬 emoji - thought it was smiling but it’s nervous. Must get mi glasses changed🤣 Yes I’m 😬 too!

Joseann Wed 26-Jun-24 08:32:24

I'm neither thick nor a Labour voter. The comment was a bit out of place on this thread, but so is the smug attitude of Labour supporters starting to creep in. It was a fairly neutral, informative thread until then, the intention of which was to keep us posted.

LizzieDrip Wed 26-Jun-24 08:25:24

Yes WW it’s been quite a congenial thread so far, but hey ho!

Do I detect some optimism creeping in WW? I still daren’t go there yet🤣 Just keeping everything crossed now until the finish line🤞🤞🤞

Whitewavemark2 Wed 26-Jun-24 08:17:29

Don’t forget to vote!! Only just over a week to go😬😬😬

We could have started this thread today and there would have been nothing different to the polls from when we started.

I can’t ever remember that happening before. That’s why I feel so 😬 about what they are telling us.
