Just that really.

Some are indeed dismissing the tax matter simply because she’s a Labour politician. Had she been a Conservative they would be saying something entirely different - sleaze, snouts in the trough, lining their own pockets etc etc.

I don’t know if she’s guilty of anything or not, but is she is guilty, she should pay whatever price it is.

I don’t care who represents what party, or what their status is - we all need to play by the same rules.😉

With regard to HMRC.

I think that you will find that the time limit is up.

Other than if they suspect deliberate evasion, but given the police decision I think that is highly unlikely.

Rayner was -as everyone agrees - set up.

Expect more as we get nearer the election.

There is no time limits with money the government think is owed to them.

I don’t know whether she was set up or not - but I’m sure the investigation will establish the facts.

I don’t agree she was set up.So you can’t say everyone.
Somebody did some digging, as they always do in politics and found something worth investigating .
I don’t dismiss it out of hand just cos she’s Labour as some here are doing.

Urmstongran Tue 28-May-24 17:25:50

Because she’s high profile?

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 28-May-24 17:21:52

I’m sure it does, but AR counts as a big fish.

gulligranny Tue 28-May-24 17:21:19

Well what a surprise (not).

wwm, not only are you using the crystal ball again, you are saying you are a tax expert. No case to answer? Innocent error? Evidence please? HMRC have 20 years to investigate suspected tax evasion so the time limit has definitely not passed.

A few years as a tax accountant working for HMRC might qualify?

20 years for deliberate tax evasion.

4 years for innocent tax evasion.

Frankly given the level of tax supposedly evaded, HMRC has far bigger fish to fry, given its level of resource.

Sounds a bit like Father Ted “oh THAT money! That was just resting in my account.” 🤣🤣

Lady?

BlueBelle Tue 28-May-24 17:09:13

Well I like her she talks some good down to earth sense and she seems a solid sort of lady unlike the Trusses of the world

Mone, yes indeed.

And what about that motor home north of the border? It’s gone very quiet …

Hasn’t he been re-arrested?

Has he? Must have missed that. No mention on tv about it.
That I know on.

Allsorts

Verve is not a word that could be used to describe Angela. Tax evasion for any of us is serious.

As far as HMRC is concerned Raynor almost certainly had no case to answer, because it would be deemed an innocent error. They might have billed her for the tax amount and perhaps interest but the time limit is passed.

I read that the Tories are trying to get Mone cleared of fraud and corruption.

If she is found guilty she will get thrown out if the lords.

Now there is someone who knows how to fiddle.

If you are going to do it - do it big😄😄😄

Oldbat1 Tue 28-May-24 16:43:16

Excellent!

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 28-May-24 16:41:19

Tax evasion is tax evasion. Being careless with your taxes is not a defence, neither is the amount involved relevant to whether a crime has been committed. As I recall, Starmer has not seen what Rayner described as the ’advice’ she obtained, including advice from, of all people, an estate agent. He’s not stupid.

winterwhite Tue 28-May-24 16:34:17

Has it been shown that it was intentional dishonesty rather than a careless mistake? I didn't think so but may be wrong.

It can be hard to find the moral distinction between a small amount of evaded tax and £kkk of deliberately avoided tax.

Urmstongran Tue 28-May-24 16:32:22

Well it seems that’s one issue but what about the capital gains tax which either she should have paid when she sold her own house or which she and her husband should have paid on the house that he sold. As a married couple you’re only allowed one principal residence? The other attracts CGT.

Now to go after James Daly MP, a most peculiar man, who wrote to the police sparking off this whole fiasco but - oddly - when he appeared on various daytime progs and was asked exactly what he was accusing her of, he couldn't seem to make any sense. In effect, refusing to answer.

In effect, he must have been making it up. And that will be his eternal footmark in history.

Now to go after James Daly MP
Why?

In effect, he must have been making it up
The investigations continue.

We do need to be careful what we post.

Eden Square Davey’s got that covered on his paddle board.

Why do they get up to these daft photo opportunities?

They just make themselves look stupid and incompetent.
Neil falling over in the sea
Someone feeding his little daughter a beef burger during the BSE scandal
Ed M eating a beef burger
Boris on a zip wire
Now Ed D falling off a paddle board into calm (polluted) water
