She didn't behave badly. It was Starmer who failed to restore the whip even after she had completed the required course. That's behaving badly. That's not showing respect.
Farage fails to report 5 million gift!
Breaking news, just now.

Was that a deliberate spelling mistake Glorianny?
Have you noticed that Daiane Abbott isn’t the only black female MP in the Labour Party, or the shadow cabinet nor is she the most articulate or well informed? I agree that respect should be given to her for her achievements in the past, but that is not the same thing as excusing her poor behaviour now or in the future.
She was the first black woman MP.
A Tory donor recently got away with saying she made him "hate all black women" and "she should be shot"
When has Starmer ever supported her?
Most of the black women MPs would tell you she paved the way for them.
Are we doing spelling criticism now?
Diane!

Glorianny what has the colour of KS’s skin got to do with the issue
???
Have you never heard of "white, male privilege"?
To put it simply, a man like Kier, who has never faced sexist or racist discrimination, should be listening and learning from a woman who has.
I’m fine with Dianne contesting her seat albeit questioning her motive for doing so. Equally happy for her to sit in parliament and air her views; Labour is a broad church and needs the socialist viewpoint to be put forward. What I’m worried about is any attempt to stop the party explaining its policies to the electorate by creating as much bad publicity as possible. I just hope I’m wrong in my fear of this happening.

The left are not the enemy
I agree Glorianny. Perhaps someone should tell them that, and ask them to stop behaving as if the Labour Party is their enemy! I am left wing but above all, I want a Labour government.
Surely she should expect respect from white and black men as should all women be they white or black
Starmer should treat her views as Blair treated Corbyn’s. As an irrelevance
I agree WW. However, social media wasn’t around in Blair’s time. DA is apparently a big social media user and can do damage this way - either deliberately or, as other posters have said, by ‘having no filter’. This would be jumped on, and exploited, by the right wing - Tories and MSM. I’m sure they’ve already got people assigned to trawling her SM!
Nevertheless, I think KS has made the right decision to allow her to stand. She’s going to be a thorn in his side either way. He perhaps has slightly more ‘control’ over her antics if she’s within the fold than not.
TBH, I’m sick of hearing her name on main stream news
If Starmer is so weak he cannot stand any criticism from the left of the party it doesn't bode well for the future does it?
Diane Abbott has served her constituents for over 30 years supporting them and speaking out in the face of the most vile abuse. The least she could expect from a white man who has only served 9 years as an MP is a little respect and acknowledgement. Unfortunately it's something Starmer can't do.
The left are not the enemy. The insidious creep of Tory policies into the Labour party is.

This one woman, who is clearly not well, who is very popular in her constituency, who has, in the past, been a giant roll model for black women, will be treated as one would expect.
With respect and regard for her past achievements.
She may well criticise the Labour government - if indeed there is one - so, I hope will all other Labour supporters if they consider policy is wrong etc. Labour will survive, because it has a pair unlike other Tory leaders who have bent/broken with the wind from the right.
That is the only reason he's let her carry on, votes, they don't care what she's said or done.

I hope her health is adequate to serve her constituents for five years.
A 'giant roll model' sums her up.
She is as she has always been, angry and embittered, she will seek revenge for Corbyn and he will let her.
I think she’s being used…by the Tories obviously but also by the Labour Left to cause problems for Starmer.
It’s unkind given her current health and the sterling service during her long career in politics warrants more respect from her own party surely?

According to Ed Balls (ex Labour MP) Diane Abbott (tweeted) posted on X last night Starmer lies and a while after deleted it.
I think this woman is the gift that keeps on giving - for the Tory party. She’s a thorn in Starmer’s side right now that much is certain, attracting attention for all the wrong reasons. Casdon you put it best - she has no filter. I think she’s a liability to be honest.
The whole thing has been badly mishandled by Starmer who looks just as much a ditherer as Sunak when decisions need to be made. I don't have any feeling one way or the other for Diane Abbot but she deserved better treatment than Starmer was giving her. He comes across as weak when Rayner has to put him straight.
I don’t think anybody will expect anything but criticism of the Labour leadership MayBee70, but in the greater scheme of things nobody really listens to her now about that, it’s expected. If I were Starmer I’d be more worried about her putting her foot in it before the election with an anti-Semitic or similarly offensive off the cuff tweet or remark, because she has no filter.

I just hope that her campaigning doesn’t include constant criticism of the party leadership because, if it does, the news media are going to lap it up.
I just can’t see her having the health and stamina to do another five years. I hope I’m wrong, but I think she’s going to struggle, with the left putting pressure on her to be their mouthpiece, and walking the thin line of not saying anything inappropriate and being back to square one with the the whip.
Maybe she will decide not to stand.
