Diane Abbott to be banned from standing for Labour.

As I understand it, it is the NEC who make the decisions on these matters in Labour. Quite rightly the leader and MPs are not involved. That would be like a Judge sitting in on the jurors' discussions and directing them to a particular verdict. KS is an honest, decent man and an intelligent one, very highly spoken of and thought of in his previous profession and it would have been sheer stupidity on his part to lie in front of cameras. He has my vote.
DA can stand, probably will stand. If elected, she can stand down on grounds of ill health with total dignity in a couple of years time.

Today’s Telegraph:

“ Instead, Sir Keir looks first ungracious, even vindictive, and then weak. He showed a want of diplomatic skills and took refuge in process (“We must wait for the NEC’s decision”), which never works in the heat of an election campaign. ”

I agree with you, Maddyone, and I fear she will go on to cause more trouble.
You would think Labour would see how the Conservatives have brought themselves down by their ceaseless infighting but it seems they are intent on following the same path.

As I’ve said before, I think Diane Abbott is unwell, and as a consequence, I think she would be unwise to stand for election. However my guess is that she will stand.

The media want to speak of a split, happens every election

I think both Starmer and Diane Abbott were playing a game. She was stirring the pot to see what would happen. He was watching the reactions, especially of the public, to see which way to jump. He judged, probably correctly, to take the wind out of her sails and announce that she is free to stand. He initially said we wouldn’t know until Tuesday, when some committee (can’t remember the name) has met and he implied they would decide. However I think he has played it correctly. He has closed down the growing media circus over this and left her to decide.

It’s nonsense to suggest ‘the left’ bullied Starmer into ‘flip flopping’. The tories really are desperate

I hope that whoever has the final say in who stands for this seat will be putting competence over ideology. If Diane is becoming frail, then I hope that she does the same and doesn't push on at a cost to her wellbeing.

Her hands were shaking and her face looked very frail and vulnerable.
I remember my Mum with that look.

I felt the same. And she seemed to be relying on others to guide her round. It made her look extremely vulnerable.

Sky News are doing their best to keep this media-led issue alive. They are suggesting a rift between KS & AR. It’s rubbish! When AR commented about DA she had obviously spoken with KS first, and they were in agreement. But Sky News just can’t let it go. They just can’t say ‘the issue has been resolved’. I’ve never seen such biased reporting. Yesterday a Tory MP stood down and said he was joining the LP. Are Sky still talking about that - no! Today they’ve given Sunak and another Tory MP (didn’t catch his name) a platform to talk about DA and how ‘it’s weakened Starmer’! Why? Oh, that’ll be to support the Tories and to beat Labour. I always said KS would have a mountain to climb against the right wing media - it’s very, very unpalatable! I’ve turned Sky News off and won’t be watching it again

The mp who stood down and joined Labour is Mark Logan, Bolton north east, his majority is 400. Even the tories complained he was invisible
