Trump has been found guilty on all 34 charges by a united jury!

Whilst not being a fan of Trump the glaring weaponisation of his misdemeanour into an offence potentially carrying a custodial sentence is truly disgraceful.

They’re out to get him because they’re terrified he’ll become president again.

His home was raided because he supposedly had classified documents there yet Biden had classified documents in his garage and that was glossed over.

Biden’s behaviour with very young girls is suspect to say the least and his own daughter has admitted to “taking showers with Dad (inappropriate)”. She feels she may have been sexually abused but doesn’t know who by. Imagine if this was Trump.

Love or hate the man, please show some objectivity.

What in gracious name are you talking about? Trump’s offences are NOT misdeamonors. He was caught trying to subvert the election by various means. The difference between Biden having classified documents and Trump was that Biden handed over the documents immediately and Trump tried to hide the documents and lied about having them. Your last accusation doesn’t bear commenting on as it’s straight from tabloid journalism.

You like to believe it’s rubbish as you are so biased. It’s been fact checked and verified.

This stuff about Biden and his daughter is utter rubbish, it comes from an allegation that a diary stolen from his daughter Ashley contained this information. It doesn't but a meme has been circulated amongst Trump followers suggesting that it's true. It was thought to have been done to counter a comment made by Trump that he'd like to sleep with his daughter, which is well documented.

‘ If she wasn’t my daughter I’d be dating her’. That and many other Trump comments make my flesh crawl. How any woman can vote for him is beyond me sad

I had to look up ScheduleF - its an attempt to be able to replace what we call civill servants with political appointees.

"Three months before the end of his presidency, Donald Trump quietly issued Executive Order 13957, allowing the conversion of some federal civil service jobs to excepted service under a new classification, Schedule F.
If a position was reclassified, the president could fire its occupant at will and install a successor without going through the civil service hiring and placement process. Trump issued the order after years of complaining that a practically conspiratorial federal bureaucracy was obstructing his agenda.

His successor, President Joe Biden, rescinded the order two days after taking the oath of office in early 2021

"Many former Trump staffers and prominent supporters have echoed the theme.

Russ Vought, who led Trump’s Office of Management and Budget at the end of his presidency, has written that the federal bureaucracy currently carries out “the policy plans and preferences of a radical, supposedly ‘woke’ faction of the country,” and that the next president must show “boldness to bend or break the bureaucracy to the presidential will.”

In a recent TV interview, Sen. J.D. Vance (R–OH), rumored to be posturing for Trump’s vice president pick, was blunter: “If I was giving [him] one piece of advice, [it would be to] fire every single mid‐level bureaucrat, every civil servant in the administrative state, [and] replace them with our people

Schedule F is terrifying and a huge threat to democracy should Trump ever get into power to implement it. However, Trump supporters, like many in the UK have no idea what they are voting for.

What is shocking is that Trump has not been charged with his attempt to falsify the votes in Georgia in 2021 after two recounts. Note: this call was actually reported by a Republican

Jan. 2, 2021
In an hourlong phone call obtained by ABC News, Trump calls Raffensperger and falsely claims that it was "not possible" for him to have lost and asks the secretary to "find 11,780 votes" -- the exact number Trump needed to win Georgia.

"The people of Georgia are angry. The people of the country are angry, and there's nothing wrong with saying that, you know, that you've recalculated,"

Trump says on the call.

All I want to do is this: I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. ... Fellas, I need 11,000 votes, give me a break

How can any poster think this OK? Imagine a PM in the UK doing this and what the comments would be!

JudyBloom Sat 01-Jun-24 10:26:09

I totally agree with Urmstongran. It is shocking what is happening.

LizzieDrip Sat 01-Jun-24 10:23:13

We have an independent judiciary

And thanks goodness we do GSM. When the judiciary is politicised it’s a road to disaster IMO. I do find it troubling that our Police Commissioner roles are political appointments - not happy with that!

Regarding Trump, the very fact that the judge is a political appointment opens the door for Trump to dismiss the whole thing as politically motivated, and plays into his populist, anti-establishment rhetoric … ‘If they can do this to me, they can do it to anyone’.

I fear that Trump will win the election and the world become even more dangerous than it already is.

It is so good to hear from a US citizen, who are living the Trump nightmare.

I am too old to see it, but I would love to see what history will make of this period of USA history and the reasons for this apparent insanity.

You mean it’s good to hear comments from Americans who agree with you! There millions over there who don’t agree with you.

So what do you find admirable about Trump?

Are you happy that he is destroying the keystone of an orderly society, that is, he is destroying the Rule of Law?

Not so. We have separation of powers, an independent judiciary. The Supreme Court has supremacy over lower courts, and its decisions are binding on them.

Wasn't he found in contempt of court a number of times during the trial?

The interesting thing about Trump is that he demonstrates that practically nothing can be done to bring into line a person who completely ignores all laws.

Worse than that - Trump has threatened all those who have thwarted or criticised him By invoking what he is calling Schedule F.

Amongst other really alarming stuff, schedule F will allow him to rid the country of left leaning media outlets and empower the FDI to carry out his threat of going after (whatever that means) critics etc.

What I do think is that something is very wrong with the American democracy at the moment.

From the Supreme Court with just 9 people being able decide life changing decisions - and they are there for life, to Congress to gerrymandering districts to electoral college - all of it is putting pressure of the democratic process.

Our own courts also make life changing decisions and judges continue in post until they are 70, which may be extended to 75. The big difference, of course, is that they are not political appointments. We have an independent judiciary.

The clue is in the word “supreme”

In the uk parliament retains supremacy.

As a letter in today’s Times asks, he can stand in a courtroom, unanimously convicted by a jury - and say that it was rigged and the judge is corrupt - what do you have to do in the US to be charged with contempt of court?

MaizieD Sat 01-Jun-24 08:55:54

70 or 75 is not 'there for life', though, is it, GSM?

There is a lot of "equivalencing" going on at the moment. The subject of the Trump result came up at our regular granglais group last night. One friend, extremely well educated kept saying "but Biden kept quiet about Hunter's drug dealing" whilst Trump is being attacked. I tried to explain about the payments to Stormy Daniels - by whom they were made and how the lawyer was reimbursed by campaign funds. She just didn't get it.

I explained again and her response that information was not in the articles she had read.

This is similar to the response about Angela Rayner's son. To my mind the actions of these two sons, both adults, has nothing to do with their parents. The American Right are trying hard to find dirt on Jo Biden as are the English Right on AR.

Interestingly a French understood Trump's result quite clearly.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 01-Jun-24 07:40:40

My question to our USA friends is

Do you think Trump will get away with Schedule F? It sounds to me that if he does it will fundamentally change America democracy. Sounds like the gestapo to me😮😮😮.

Has he still got the Southern Baptist vote ? There are a lot of them and if he has it will make a huge difference. The people at the church I used to go to, including many Americans from down South living over here, was very pro Trump. There will be trouble ahead whatever and I wouldn’t want to live there or even visit just now.
