Hmm.
Standing as a Reform MP after all?
Emigrating to America to canvass for Trump?
Joining the Tory party?
None of the above?

I shall tune in out of curiosity.

So here we are again. No talk of policies from Reform , some nonsense of not being afraid to be patriotic from NF and anybody who doesn't agree with him has no crictical thinking skills.

I wonder why some people fall for these Jack the Lad types. The same people who thought BJ was their mate/ a real character.

Nigel Farage reminds me of an excitable child who is always looking for a new toy.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 05-Jun-24 08:10:48

No it isn’t behind a paywall.

Interesting article.

Feed the Dane - yes that’s exactly what the Tories have done and my goodness look where it has got us!

Galaxy Wed 05-Jun-24 07:35:51

It is I am afraid Maizie. I subscribed to the Spectator for quite a while, but have let it lapse.

MaizieD Wed 05-Jun-24 07:01:54

Interesting article from The Spectator

'How the tories created Nigel Farage

www.spectator.co.uk/article/how-the-tories-created-nigel-farage/

(I hope this isn't paywalled)

but if you keep ignoring and/or demonising this section of the population it wont end well.

I really think that you make some of this up, Galaxy. There's no 'ignoring' going on on this thread, nor, as I recall, has anyone been demonised, apart from Farage.

What I can see is a degree of bafflement that such a deeply flawed individual could gain such an uncritical following. Just as people were baffled by Johnson's followers and are baffled by Trump's.

I also find it strange that only one side of the 'debate' is expected to exercise critical thinking skills...

his opponents dont possess one ounce of critical or strategic thinking

All of them? Thats quite a claim.

Not really.

Well of course its a rather strange claim?

We can insert any name. Anybody who is an opponent of.............doesn't possess one ounce of critical or strategic thinking.

Makes no sense whatsoever.

Galaxy Tue 04-Jun-24 21:40:04

That's probably true Maizie. I should fit right in then wink

Galaxy Tue 04-Jun-24 21:39:01

Even the talk that it's good because it will split the Tories vote. Sorry but I think that's shortsighted. What happens in this election is irrelevant. I dont pretend to know what will happen, he may build a base with just reform, he may join/split the Tories, reform may implode as small parties often do, but if you keep ignoring and/or demonising this section of the population it wont end well.

I actually didnt mention GN, but I do wonder how many events its going to take (Brexit, Trump twice?, the Irish vote) before people realise that a considerable section of the population think differently to them, and demonising those people just doesnt work, it makes it worse.

The problem is, Galaxy, that we just haven't all reached your level of sanctity.

Dinahmo Tue 04-Jun-24 21:30:33

So all the people who oppose Farage are unthinking fools without the ability to exercise critical thinking?

er..yes?

Yes I agree and she is now being called all sorts of horrible misogynistic stuff online and there is absolutely no way people can criticise that if they at the same time condone what happened to Farage. People often talk about the stupidity of Farage supporters but honestly his opponents dont possess one ounce of critical or strategic thinking.

That’s quite a leap Galaxy. There’s a big difference between opposing his policies and disliking his persona, and condoning him being assaulted. I haven’t seen anybody on here doing that, and I don’t imagine even his fiercest critics would support that happening - to him or anybody else.

Well, quite.

12 pages of discussion about Farage and suddenly anyone who has disagreed here on GN apparently lacks "one ounce of critical or strategic thinking."

Casdon Tue 04-Jun-24 20:54:33

I’ve got no time for Owen Jones Galaxy. - or for anybody else who condones stupid acts like that either. He’s got many other opponents who would condemn what happened today though.

Galaxy Tue 04-Jun-24 20:44:21

As I said Casdon Owen Jones is condoning it. Just have a quick glance at X and you will see many doing just that.

Galaxy Tue 04-Jun-24 20:42:30

It's not Emily Hewertson, if I was Shelagh Fogarty I would be deleting that tweet sharpish. And if I was Emily I might speak to some good lawyers.

“I just felt like it’”.

Jeez Louise.

The problem is not just the disrespect and intolerance displayed but the womans naivety in perpetrating such an assault in a society increasingly beset by acid throwing individuals. Farage would understandably have been wondering just what had been thrown in his face - a deeply unsettling mix of emotions which in anyone with heart issues could have fatal consequences. Should be treated as a serious assault and punished accordingly.

Urmstongran Tue 04-Jun-24 20:36:01

Apparently she’s an Only Fans ‘performer’. That ties in with not being averse to attention.
🤣

Galaxy Tue 04-Jun-24 20:28:38

I just havent seen much evidence of it. Owen Jones is currently calling it 'art'. He never fails to disappoint with his unpleasantness.

On X it’s being posted that she is the ex/ girlfriend of Reform’s Publicity Officer…

How exciting, the plot thickens!
