Manifesto.

Phase out the use of dogs, minipigs and rabbits in product testings 💉

• End trail hunting that allows for the illegal hunting of foxes, deer, and hares to continue

Ban the import of body parts from slaughtered endangered animals 🐘

• End the illegal smuggling of dogs, puppies and kittens 🚫

• End illegal puppy farming by criminal gangs who profit from animal cruelty 🐶

• Ban the sale of animals with cropped ears 🐰

• Ban the importation of dogs and cats with fashion-based mutilations 🐕

• Ban the use of snare traps 🐇

• Ban the importation of heavily pregnant cats and dogs 🐈

I’ve taken this from twitter - not from the manifesto.

So this might be added to.

Does caring for animals include rats and mice? Just asking.

veejay I read recently that Jeremy Clarkson actively encouraged foxhunting and badger baiting on his land

I'm not sure that's true. Clarkson cried over his piglets. He seems to be an animal lover.

I think it is true.

Many country people, those trying to bring food to our tables, regard foxes as vermin. They may care for their own animals but a fox would have maimed or killed those piglets and just for food.

It's town dwellers who regard them as sweet, cuddly creatures to be encouraged. Perhaps encourage them all into towns and cities?

and just for food.
NOT just for food

David49 Fri 14-Jun-24 09:10:13

In this area Fun Rides are popular, riding cross country over a planned course. Also Bloodhounds hunting a runner but that’s much more hard core riding.

That's a good idea. Perhaps those so invested in hunting would like to hunt each other. It would make it much more interesting. Humans pitted against dogs who eventually rip them limb from limb whilst still alive after a terrifying and exhausting chase.

Well said flappergirl.

I am a Cornish country person, who now lives in a town.

I feed the local foxes - but I certainly do not see them as sweet cuddly creatures but part of the diversity of our eco-system which the U.K. has precious little.

Neither do I see badgers as sweet and cuddly but I do know that the cruel cull of a “protected”animal is wrong.

I don’t see raptors as sweet snd cuddly but I do know their destruction is very wrong.

I don’t see seals as sweet and cuddly but I know that their slaughter is wrong.

I don’t see bees and other pollinators as sweet and cuddly but I think their destruction by using pesticides will be a disaster.

So don’t tell me that town people are too ignorant to have an opinion about what “country people” see as their exclusive field of expertise.

They know how to maximise their profit, but are apparently ignorant about biodiversity and its importance. That is why politicians have to legislate to safeguard our natural world.

LOL the Bloodhounds are friendly only likely to lick the runner to death.

Crikey, Whitewave! No need to go off on one.

I only mentioned foxes and yes, many people in towns and cities do have some kind of sentimental ideas about them.
You don't, fair enough.

I don't agree with fox hunting or badger culling either but foxes are regarded as pests.

Iceland has just granted a licence for a company to kill 128 fin whales this year.

Quoting someone’s opinion does not make it fact. Clarkson has never been prosecuted, the huntsman was.

eazybee Fri 14-Jun-24 16:25:50

veejay:
He Might love his own animals but prefer them to be safe from foxes etc.so agree to hunting on his land

Jaxjacky:
Do you have evidence for this veejay? Making libellous statements on a public forum is rather short sighted.

It is is not a libellous statement, it is an expression of opinion, as in 'he might.'

Anniebach Fri 14-Jun-24 16:40:11

Clarkson may support fox hunts on his land, do not many dog and cat lovers kill rats and mice ?

I am certainly not supporting hunting

David49 Fri 14-Jun-24 20:15:29

Clarkson is a fool, no surprises there, getting involved in that sort of controversial activity inviting trouble of all sorts. There are no brownie points for actively supporting the hunt these days, as for badger control it’s government policy, specially trained marksmen do the culling.

flappergirl Fri 14-Jun-24 20:40:08

"LOL the Bloodhounds are friendly only likely to lick the runner to death."

Well then David49, let's switch it up a bit with some XL bullies. I think that's only fair when mutilation and death are considered entertainment.

Summerfly Fri 14-Jun-24 21:00:10

I don’t agree with any form of animal cruelty, but to have hunters on horseback getting pleasure out of dogs chasing a fox to exhaustion, to then be ripped to pieces by a pack of hounds is barbaric. The hounds are treated badly, some kept in dreadful conditions.

M0nica Fri 14-Jun-24 23:04:58

Strange how people who get upset if humans kill animals will happliy accept and condone animals killing other animals.

Summerfly Sat 15-Jun-24 00:16:44

Not strange at all Monica. Animals kill to survive, fox hunters kill for pleasure.

Anniebach Sat 15-Jun-24 07:51:37

You have never seen a hen house after a fox has gained entry ?

M0nica Sat 15-Jun-24 07:54:08

Summerfly I wasn't talking specifically about foz hunting - and foxes, dogs and other animals getting into a field of sheep will often embark on a frenzy of killing, far more than they can ever consume, rather as if they just enjoy the act of killing.

Yes they do enjoy it - it is because they are programmed to do so, because without it they would simply not survive.

We know that many predatory animals apparently kill for pleasure. Cats of all sizes, dolphins, canines, bears and others and of course humans.

However, we are blessed (cursed) with a cognitive brain that allows adaptability which is simply not available to other species. We have therefore developed myriad cultures. Killing other sentient beings for pleasure is one that in many cultures is now thought no longer acceptable

Summerfly Sat 15-Jun-24 08:50:49

Yes Annie, sadly I have first hand experience of this. I’ve lived rurally all my adult life and had chickens. Their pen was left open one night by mistake. (Both DH and myself thought the other had closed them in.)
We found all our chickens dead. Awful sight, but our fault for not making sure they were locked up safely, but it’s what wild animals do.
I still cannot condone people on horseback hunting with a pack of hounds, chasing a fox, to then watch the hounds rip it to bits. I’ve also seen footage of live cubs being thrown into the hounds pen. Shocking to see.
