Manifesto.

Phase out the use of dogs, minipigs and rabbits in product testings 💉

• End trail hunting that allows for the illegal hunting of foxes, deer, and hares to continue

Ban the import of body parts from slaughtered endangered animals 🐘

• End the illegal smuggling of dogs, puppies and kittens 🚫

• End illegal puppy farming by criminal gangs who profit from animal cruelty 🐶

• Ban the sale of animals with cropped ears 🐰

• Ban the importation of dogs and cats with fashion-based mutilations 🐕

• Ban the use of snare traps 🐇

• Ban the importation of heavily pregnant cats and dogs 🐈

I’ve taken this from twitter - not from the manifesto.

So this might be added to.

Seems all very good, but who tweeted this ?

Oreo Sat 08-Jun-24 20:27:00

Some don’t make sense as they are already banned. As for the illegal things, they’re already illegal and action is taken where they’re found.

veejay Sat 08-Jun-24 20:50:34

Fox hunting is illegal but trail hunting isn't .but trail hunting is used as an excuse for fox hunting

MissAdventure Sat 08-Jun-24 21:31:21

More reasons to vote Labour.
It's correct that huting is still going on, almost as openly as it ever has been.

MissAdventure Sat 08-Jun-24 21:31:44

And so is hunting...

Galaxy Sat 08-Jun-24 21:38:53

Yes trail hunting is used in our village as an excuse to hunt.

keepingquiet Sat 08-Jun-24 21:52:24

Odd- the manifesto hasn't been published yet. Fake news?

Casdon Sat 08-Jun-24 21:52:26

Which of these is already banned Oreo? It seems strange if they would put things in their manifesto that are?

I can't see this as a high priority for an incoming government given all the major problems we face - cost of living, climate change, energy bills, the failing NHS, rebuilding our relationship with Europe, lack of affordable housing for people, etc., etc.

veejay Sat 08-Jun-24 22:46:25

I wouldn't vote for anyone who didn't consider animal welfare
I read recently that Jeremy Clarkson actively encouraged foxhunting and badger baiting on his land
I never liked him much before but now I think he's disgusting why have a farm with animals supposedly to be careful for with that attitude

maddyone Sun 09-Jun-24 00:04:13

I agree with it all, I hate animal cruelty. However some of the things mentioned are already illegal so I’m unsure what they’ll do about those. Is this on their manifesto? I thought it was being published next week.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 09-Jun-24 06:40:43

Yes it was as I said - on twitter - I shall be looking for this on the manifesto and get back.

I’ll try and find the tweet.

Great to see
@UKLabour
commit to the biggest boost in animal welfare laws in a generation, including strengthening the Hunting Act 2004.

We urge all parties to take note and include similarly strong commitments in their manifestos.

To stop hunting it would probably be best to ban “packs” of hounds/dogs, the excuse of hound exercise is widely flouted. If folk want to ride cross country fine, but not with a pack of dogs.

M0nica Sun 09-Jun-24 08:05:59

How do you ban something that is already illegal?.

If it is illegal it is already banned. And there have aready been prosecutions for puppy farming.

Casdon Sun 09-Jun-24 08:14:52

According to the link MissAdventure posted above, the Kept Animals Bill has been repealed, so these acts are not currently illegal.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 09-Jun-24 08:20:03

I know it won’t of necessity be the top of the list in priority, but I for one am delighted at the tone it sets, and will be even more pleased as these laws get passed.

maddyone Sun 09-Jun-24 08:32:26

So will I, hoping it happens. But you’re right, it won’t be top of the to do list.

Sparklefizz Sun 09-Jun-24 09:30:01

veejay I read recently that Jeremy Clarkson actively encouraged foxhunting and badger baiting on his land

I'm not sure that's true. Clarkson cried over his piglets. He seems to be an animal lover.

Sarnia Sun 09-Jun-24 09:35:26

The Tories were supposed to ban the illegal smuggling of dogs and puppies but pulled back from making it law. I would like to see an end to this and stop the cruel, uncaring animal traffickers making money out of these poor animals.

veejay Sun 09-Jun-24 10:59:17

He Might love his own animals but prefer them to be safe from foxes etc.so agree to hunting on his land

Jaxjacky Sun 09-Jun-24 11:26:06

Do you have evidence for this veejay? Making libellous statements on a public forum is rather short sighted.
