That's Mr Sunak's definition of hardship? Yes, he is truly detached from the rest of us.

I love the simpsons. If I was a character in the simpsons, I’d be sideshow bob

Callistemon21

I have never watched The Simpsons.

Obviously I am deprived.

Give it a go. 6.30 every night on 4. Sometimes they play the adult version, hilarious 😂

Was Sky TV available when Sunak was a child?

Yes as I’m almost 50 and my friend had it as we used to watch the Simpsons

JaneJudge Sun 16-Jun-24 20:00:11

My poor children 😂

Am I missing something, not having Sky TV?

He should have been sent up the chimneys. I’m sure he would have been small enough!

biglouis Sun 16-Jun-24 17:35:18

Reminds me of the Monty Python sketch. " when we was young ,we never had nothing, we lived in a cardboard box" " cardboard box? You was lucky, we lived in t'gutter

Luxury! Sheer bloody luxury!

Always loved that sketch.

DiamondLily Sun 16-Jun-24 17:30:10

I’ve got Sky and all the streaming programmes now, but they weren’t around when I was young.

I was fed, watered and well clothed - which was all most of my peer group were.

I can’t remember feeling materially deprived.🙄

MRGUDER Sun 16-Jun-24 17:27:06

I got our butler SKY television but I don't watch it myself, does that make me underprivileged? wink

BlueBelle Sun 16-Jun-24 17:16:10

Still haven’t got Sky

Janeea Sun 16-Jun-24 17:15:14

I am absolutely no fan of Sunak but that admission was practically forced from him, he kept saying he wasn’t deprived but the interviewer kept on and on and I think that’s all he could think of

I do without sky tv as a single pensioner

BlueBelle Sun 16-Jun-24 16:28:54

Here’s what we DIDNT have when I was a child
We didn’t have
A TV got one after I left home
A phone my first phone was when I was 30
A fridge when I was 20
A washing machine I was 21
A car never had one

Don’t feel poor though I had a nice home, warm bed, food in my belly and two parents

kittylester Sun 16-Jun-24 15:48:06

Not Skype - my autocorrect is having a field day today.

kittylester Sun 16-Jun-24 15:47:22

FranA

When I was raising my children only the very rich and people on the dole could afford SkyTV. I never had it either and still don’t.

We have never been 'rich' but had Skype as soon as it became available - well we actually started with the other one with a squariel- forgotten what it was called - BSB possibly.

biglouis Sun 16-Jun-24 15:03:56

This remark reminds me of the old "let them eat cake" saying. Of course we now know that Marie Antoinette never actually said this. The quote was only attributed to her by historians decades after her death. However at the time people may have believed that she had done so. Endemic of a certaain attitude of those whose wealth and privilege removes them completely from the concerns of ordinary people.

knspol Sun 16-Jun-24 14:43:31

PS but don't want another Tory govt.

knspol Sun 16-Jun-24 14:43:07

Can he put his foot in it even more??? The Tory campaign is an example of how to fail. I'm amazed he can bring himself to get out of bed and go out and about every day after the list of blunders, feel almost sorry for him.

orly Sun 16-Jun-24 14:01:40

His statement was in the same category as Theresa May's confession of naughtiness being when she "ran through a farmer's field of corn".

He was making a joke folks! Sky asking what he missed out on as a child what else would he answer but .... tada SKY Have you all totally lost your sense of humour?

No but maybe we didn’t think Rishi had one.
