In fairness Starmer couldn’t be seen to ā€œrubbishā€ Corbyn, he has got a lot of Corbyn supporters in the party in the circumstances he did as well as can be expected.

Because it looks like Labour will get a landslide, how much influence will the left have, how long will Starmer last as leader?.

I’m getting increasingly fed up with the poor skills of the hosts of these debates, not one of them so far has been good. Surely we can do better.

I agree Sarnia, Fiona Bruce was completely doing my head in! I was shouting at the TV ā€˜just shut up woman and let them answer the questions’. She interrupted and pushed KS more than she did RS.

I don’t think KS dealt very well with the Corbyn question, and Bruce simply would not let it drop. The Corbyn issue makes me laugh; no-one seems to challenge RS on the fact that he was an integral part of Johnson’s government for several years - the most corrupt government this country has ever seen! Why did he support Johnson throughout? That’s what I’d like to ask him.

The audience were tough; RS clearly got rattled and some of his interactions with the audience were uncomfortable - almost ā€˜bullying’. One young woman said ā€˜he’s putting words in my mouth there’.

Sunak did the only thing he could - disown those that bet on the election
No surprises to me, the dishonesty in the Tory party that Johnson fostered was all pervading, they thought they could get away with it.

I’ve switched off on the political debate now, polls predict a 140 seat majority for Labour, locally the previous Tory MP resigned in disgrace. We have a good local Liberal candidate who will give the ā€œparachutedā€ Tory candidate a good run, but has to overcome a 20k majority. If Sunak keeps finding banana skins to trip over she might do it.

I also thought Starmer’s reply to the gender debate was honest, well thought through and clear.

Starmer stumbled a bit at the beginning over Corbyn, but after that he came out of the grilling bruised but alive, - they were a tough audience.

My goodness Sunak however, took on the audience and lost!

Not sure the anger he displayed was a good look, but it certainly didn’t go down well with the audience, who booed him, laughed at him and only clapped in appreciation of questions by other members of the audience. The audience booed him as the credits rolled up.

It was much like the rest of Sunak’s campaign - a disaster.

I wish Fiona Bruce would just shut up and let the party leaders talk. She just cannot help herself with constant interruptions. I wanted to hear the answer Rishi Sunak was about to give to a question about gambling on the GE date but she starts to rudely talk over him. I rarely watch Question Time now because of her.

I was impressed by Ed Davey.

Shez1955 Thu 20-Jun-24 22:25:27

Just watched. Undecided but Starmer seemed believable then Ed Davey but seems a wasted vote as previously Conservative in my area.

Well. I think I want to vote Scottish National now.

Pity I live in Staffordshire... 🤦

Whitewavemark2 Thu 20-Jun-24 20:58:58

I bet not so many times as Sunak’s mentions his mother’s pharmacy and GP father.

No, I shall be doing a work shift later, but may record it.On the other hand tho, do I really need to see it as the polling outcome is already so clear.🧐

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 20-Jun-24 17:22:42

No, not interested in LDs or SNP and will soon hear whether Sunak or Starmer said anything of note. Will watch the debate between Sunak and Starmer next Wednesday. May see if I can place a bet on how many times Starmer mentions his parents’ occupations and the phone being cut off, ā€˜lest we forget’.

Ilovecheese Thu 20-Jun-24 16:07:45

yes, we are intending to watch

winterwhite Thu 20-Jun-24 15:20:09

😳😳 who’s planning to watch? Format different from last time - seems that the leaders will have 30mins each to answer audience questions. Whether same questions to each I don’t know. Two hours, quite a marathon but we’ll be in our seats…
