Who remembers the Michael Portillo moment?

I do. A group of us met up and watched tv until his vote was announced. We all cheered to the roof tops, drunk lots of fizz and felt very elated.

I'm hoping for such a moment with T Coffey, plus Patel and Braverman. Who would you like to see go?

Therese Coffey. DEFRA has gone backwards under her.
George Galloway. Can go back to being a cat impersonator.
Jeremy Hunt. Reminds me of Archie Andres with that smug
smile and every bit as wooden.
Boris Johnson. An outside hope for me but the architect of his
and the Tories downfall since his huge majority.

Sarnia Tue 25-Jun-24 10:27:11

Andrews!!! not Andres

Sarnia Boris Johnson is not an MP and is not standing for parliament in this election. So he hasn’t actually got a seat to lose. He resigned parliament in June 2023.

It’s interesting to see how Portillo changed our perception of him after he lost his seat, so dramatically as well. I enjoy his railway programmes and find him likeable.

I’d like to see Galloway gone but I’m not sure that’s likely. His Worker’s Party are putting candidates up in towns surrounding Rochdale

I used to like him when he was on The Week in Politics ( I think that’s what it was called) with Dianne Abbott and Andrew Neil.

DeeDa wasn’t it Matthew Paris who tried to live on benefits for a week.

He probably was on it. It was called My Week in the Real World. A few MPs took part. I remember the Portillo one.

Liam Fox needs to go.

In most parts of Somerset the LibDems are by far the strongest challengers to the Tories but in North Somerset Labour is stronger so I hope that all LibDems and Greens in North Somerset vote tactically for Labour to boot out Liam Fox

Jumped before he was pushed. Thanks for that. I thought the poor people in Uxbridge were still lumbered with him. 1 down off my list and 3 to go. grin

Kemi Badenoch.

Thanks for that. I couldn't remember her name last night nor could my DH. Both having a senior moment.

I’d never dream of drinking fizz to celebrate an MP losing his/her seat.
Perhaps I’m just not that invested.
It seems like a strange over reaction to me.
Our current MP, Flick Drummond (no longer a candidate in our constituency due to boundary changes) will probably lose her seat to the LibDem candidate in her new constituency. I think that’s well deserved because she was not a good MP, but I won’t be cracking open any bottles of fizz.

We were all political animals and still are. Hence the celebrations.

He did too. Several of them have.

We stayed up for the Portillo moment. Like some others on here, I do like his train experiences.

Rees-Mogg, Priti Patel, Braverman, Farage, Truss, DRoss, Badenoch, Galloway. That lot would do for a start.

I once, not by my design, sat opposite Michael Portillo at a formal dinner. He said not one single word to me, just had an animated conversation with the person on his left. I had been a bit sorry for him when he lost his seat, but not after that. There was another bigwig on my right who did chat a little; I was much better disposed towards him!
