Who remembers the Michael Portillo moment?

I do. A group of us met up and watched tv until his vote was announced. We all cheered to the roof tops, drunk lots of fizz and felt very elated.

I'm hoping for such a moment with T Coffey, plus Patel and Braverman. Who would you like to see go?

Angela Rayner

I remember that Michael Portillo spending a couple of weeks trying to live on unemployment benefit. He found it was impossible, couldn't afford the bus fare to the Job Centre or fares to get to job interviews, never mind food or energy.

Yes, the morning after the election people were asking each other ‘How long did you stay up?’
The answer was usually ‘Until it was announced that Portillo was out!
Oddly I now greatly enjoy his railway programmes.

Kemi Badenoch.

Suella Braverman is the Conservative candidate in my constituency. It’s a safe Tory seat so unlikely to change. There’s an Independent candidate standing though, so who knows?

I'm looking forward to them going down like skittles...

maddyone Mon 24-Jun-24 23:56:40

Who would I like to see go?
George Galloway.

I really like Michael Portillo. He does some very interesting travel programmes.
I like Ed Balls too. He does some presenting on television and was very watchable in Strictly Come Dancing.
I didn’t like either of them in government.

Maybe Rishi could be on strictly. Haha! I’d like to see Braverman sweeping the streets! Reese Moggy emptying the bins. Pritti Patel cleaning toilets. Oh and Gove being a toilet attendant! Haha! What a load of rubbish!

It’s interesting to see how Portillo changed our perception of him after he lost his seat, so dramatically as well. I enjoy his railway programmes and find him likeable.

I’d like to see Galloway gone but I’m not sure that’s likely. His Worker’s Party are putting candidates up in towns surrounding Rochdale

Angela Rayner and Penny Mordant. 🤞

Yes, we enjoy his railway programmes with his trusty Bradshaw and also the one set in the Pyrenees.

He always seems to be full of enthusiasm for people, places and the food (some of which I'd have trouble eating).

My thoughts exactly about those two,
but Ed Balls was very approachable during Strictly.
I’d like to see Angela Rayner go.

I'll never forget the Portillo moment. It is iconic, along with Stephen Twigg's slightly cheeky smile. It was, as Dinahmo, says, a moment of elation in our house.

Rees Mogg. Due to boundary changes he would be our MP if elected 😱

Casdon Tue 25-Jun-24 09:34:22

Extremists. Galloway and Braverman would be a good start, and Farage to fail again. On a more personal level I can’t stand Rees-Mogg, if he was any more up himself he’d turn inside out.

Yvette Cooper
Angela Rayner
David Lammy
Jess Phillips
Rishi Sunak

I’d never dream of drinking fizz to celebrate an MP losing his/her seat.
Perhaps I’m just not that invested.
It seems like a strange over reaction to me.
Our current MP, Flick Drummond (no longer a candidate in our constituency due to boundary changes) will probably lose her seat to the LibDem candidate in her new constituency. I think that’s well deserved because she was not a good MP, but I won’t be cracking open any bottles of fizz.

Spinnaker Tue 25-Jun-24 09:59:37

Forgot to add Ed Miliband to the above

HousePlantQueen Tue 25-Jun-24 10:03:23

Farage
Galloway
Braverman
Rees-Mogg
Badenoch

I realise some are more a case of not being elected, rather than unelected.

midgey Tue 25-Jun-24 10:16:11

DeeDa wasn’t it Matthew Paris who tried to live on benefits for a week.

maddyone Tue 25-Jun-24 10:16:21

I’m not keen on David Lammy. He brings almost everything back to race.
I’m not expecting him to lose his seat though.

Rees Mogg
George Galloway
Suella Braverman
