What is it that attracts racists, Islamaphobes, homophobes and general bigots to Nigel Farage?

I’ve pinched this question from James O’Brian. And to me it is obvious, - they are fascists - talking about replacing the police with paramilitaries and bringing back the death penalty as well as shoot f….g immigrants has huge echoes of 1930s Germany.

So why would you vote for him?

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/mar/01/rwanda-plan-uk-asylum-seeker-cost-figures

"Rwanda plan to cost UK £1.8m for each asylum seeker, figures show
This article is more than 3 months old
Disclosure, calculated on basis of 300 deportations, called ‘staggering’ by chair of home affairs committee"

"The disclosures follow nearly three years of refusals by prime ministers, home secretaries and senior Home Office staff to explain the full costs of the deal, citing “commercial confidentiality”.

Plenty of left wingers would happily round up Reform voters and pack them off to Rwanda. That’s the irony grin

Granmarderby10 Sat 29-Jun-24 10:59:51

Wyllow3 think of the money too that has been wasted in pursuing this ludicrous Rwanda idea.
When there is so much need that could have been addressed and solved with such funds.
Beggars belief.

Granmarderby10 Sat 29-Jun-24 10:52:13

I am also baffled as to why any people of colour would support Donald Trump.

To be honest I don’t think anyone really knows what to do about the immigration that is not wanted. It would probably be relatively easy to cut the numbers of so called ‘legal’ immigration because these people are given visas and arrive here perfectly legally. Many of them are working in jobs and professions where they are needed. Obviously some are dependents of these people. However it is likely that there would then be shortages in key areas, if the numbers were cut.
The immigration that many call ‘illegal’ which basically means people arriving who have not been given permission to arrive, is normally what people are discussing when they discuss immigration. I honestly don’t think there is a solution to this and that is why it’s not been able to be stopped. Neither Sunak nor Starmer really know what to do, although both claim they have a plan. Even if Farage was in government, which is not going to happen, and so really not worth discussing, but even if he was, he would not be able to do as he claims as it would be illegal.
I don’t know what the solution is. I don’t pretend to know. I don’t think anyone else does either.

Callistemon213 Sat 29-Jun-24 10:44:47

It was a daft thing for Sunak to say.

We have had an Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS) since 2022 here. 10,000 eligiblepeople have already arrived here through the scheme.

Wyllow3 Sat 29-Jun-24 10:40:45

Because Starmer has always used the words "Safe Countries"so when Rishi Sunak mocked him for planning to “sit down with the ayatollahs” to negotiate return agreements it was just a weak attempt to point score.

Perhaps more important is to ask the question why the government has halted any asylum processing due to government’s Rwanda policy

That's months of doing nothing.

Iam64 Sat 29-Jun-24 10:37:03

tinaf1 many asylum seekers from Afghanistan supported the US or UK. They couldn’t get out safely because of the haste withdrawal. Starmer knows he can’t negotiate with the Taliban
It may not fit your world view but safe refuge for people fleeing wars is the legal response - not to mention ethics or morals

tinaf1 Sat 29-Jun-24 10:28:18

apologies Wyllow3

tinaf1 Sat 29-Jun-24 10:24:52

Willow 3 Starmer stated that he would seek to return asylum seeker to safe countries or their home countries adding that many came from Afghanistan Syria and Iran so why was it a “jibe” when Sunak ask him if he was going to seek to negotiate with the Taliban it seems like a perfectly reasonable question to me.

I have also asked many Labour supporters the same question you have put to Reform Supporters “How would this be done” and had exactly the same response.

Iam64 Sat 29-Jun-24 10:21:54

Thank you MOnica

And Silverlining
It’s so good to see well informed comments in response to angry, ill informed frankly bigoted comments referring to “illegals”

silverlining48 Sat 29-Jun-24 10:12:24

Would add that since 2015 we probably have the fewest number of immigrants than most west European countries.
The problem is that none have been processed, there is no record of who and where they are and which party has been in power in that time…we all know the answer to that.

M0nica Sat 29-Jun-24 10:04:14

Mt61

Why is that most of you people who support the left are always so smug & correct? There is nothing wrong in the opinion that we have too many migrants (illegals) coming across from France. France is a safe country. We haven’t got the infrastructure to support the influx of people coming across the channel,They are probably some of the nicest people on the planet, but we have enough homeless of our own to contend with. I don’t think for one minute that Nigel Farage is anything like Hitler, he’s pragmatic, & says it has it is.
People on here need to watch other sources of news apart from the mainstream news outlets like the BBC

heaven forfend that any one should think I support the left. As I have said many times I have never voted for either of the two main parties.

My query Mt61 and to others like you is why are you so obsessed with illegal immigrants, when actually the vast majority of immigrants coming into this country come in legally. Were you to stop anybody inthe street who looked foreign, regardless of colour you would find that they were here legally and working in key sectors of the economy. Anyone who has ever been anywhere near a hospital or care home could tell you how dependent those sectors are on immigrant employees, as is the hospitality trade and many other key services.

As well as that it is immigrants that mainly work the unsocial shifts at night. They pay their taxes and make an immense contribution to the British economy.

In a post several pages back I posted the following text and link.
Those opposing immigration would, undoubtedly find it helpful to read the recent Migration Observatory report on immigration migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/briefings/migrants-in-the-uk-labour-market-an-overview/

The Migration Observatory, based at Oxford University is considered to provide 'independent, impartial and authorative advice, evidence based reports on migration in the UK'

You would find it very informative.

So Farage’s answer to immigrants is to get the Royal Marines to dump them back on Frances beaches😀😀😀.

I suspect that the French navy might have something to say about that.

What a nonsense.

About as much nonsense as Starmer hoping to think he is going to have, trying to negotiate with countries like Iran and Afghanistan

Starmer has specifically confirmed (following Sunak's jibe on the head to head) he will not be seeking to negotiate with the Taliban.

Re "returning boats" and the navy. Farage, like anyone else in politics, because it was raised as a possibility by the Conservatives in 2021/2, knows that the boats cannot be "turned back at sea" and people dumped on beaches because of international maritime laws that apply world wide.

Yet even yesterday he said the Royal Marines would. This is worse than misleading, it's a total lie.

In GN I have asked Reform supporters so many times "how it would be done" and answers came their none.

Iam64 Sat 29-Jun-24 09:54:08

That isn’t my reading of the polarised posts primrose

Primrose53 Sat 29-Jun-24 09:40:56

Just reading through very quickly as am on way out but it seems to me that the people on here who think that taking in thousands more immigrants and are anti Farage always resort to using offensive language as “scum”, “filth” etc. are you programmed to do this?

I think people who just want to let us sort our own problems out first before allowing more people in, are far more polite.

I wouldn’t waste your time talking sense on this board, they’d be happy if a 5000 illegals arrived by small boats every day. They think it’s a wonderful thing. hmm

Of course you’re entitled to express this as your belief Kandinsky. I’m curious about what your evidence is that ‘they think it’s a wonderful thing ‘ for 5000 illegals to arrive by small board every day.
That statement does not represent my views, or those of any other posters I’ve read on this forum.

Here he is back in April campaigning. Was he acting then?

Thanks Whitewave

Callistemon213 Sat 29-Jun-24 08:34:52

He's got the skin of a rhinoceros, nanna8.

MaizieD Sat 29-Jun-24 08:33:51

I wouldn't bother to feel sorry for Farage, nanna8. He thrives on people talking about him, it makes no difference whether it's good or bad.

The shame gene is completely absent ...

Lovetopaint037 Sat 29-Jun-24 08:10:29

Before the channel 4 undercover filming -about a week ago- Farage was asked what he thought about the racist remarks of some of his candidates. He replied that he wasn’t really bothered about a few jokes and thought voters wouldn’t be interested as “this election was a presidential one and only leaders were voted for”. Wow! Nigel that is some ego you have.

nanna8 Sat 29-Jun-24 08:07:32

I’m beginning to feel sorry for this bugger because of all the hatred and abuse he is copping. I would say the more people go on about how awful he is, the more votes he will pick up. People don’t like to be told what to think. He is best ignored if you want him to go away. Many people have an ‘authority’ problem and if they think he is being castigated and reviled by the mainstream government parties it will actually have the reverse effect. I would probably vote for Starmer if I bothered to, but he is very lacklustre, not someone you would have by choice.

madeleine45 Sat 29-Jun-24 07:28:19

the answer is simple. They recognise him as the same scum as themselves . He tries to hide his appalling beliefs and attitude beneath smooth snake like comments but we can all see through it, as we are intelligent beings not lowered to his level. Might be interesting to look at his family tree and see what relationship he is to Hitler!! Shame he didnt go to america as he said he would , but of course he would have had cold feet at the thought that one of the trigger happy americans would take a shot at him!!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 29-Jun-24 07:23:56

Curtaintwitcher

The problem with our country at the moment is that there are too many people who just don't care or haven't the wherewithal to consider the consequences of....unlimited numbers of immigrants flooding into the country......our children being poorly educated.....the increase in crime, etc.
Those who do have the courage to protest are labelled with insults.
People like Farage are
bringing the problems out into the open and giving patriots a voice.

So regardless of the beliefs and moral judgement of these people you are still prepared to vote for them?

Don’t you feel tainted by association?

Surely you value yourself more than that?
