What is it that attracts racists, Islamaphobes, homophobes and general bigots to Nigel Farage?

I’ve pinched this question from James O’Brian. And to me it is obvious, - they are fascists - talking about replacing the police with paramilitaries and bringing back the death penalty as well as shoot f….g immigrants has huge echoes of 1930s Germany.

So why would you vote for him?

Fearful people have always been scared of foreigners, sometimes to the extent the fearful ones want to harm the foreigners.
Sometimes a bad person will stir up these fears in order to get more power for himself.

We have thousands coming in aided by people smugglers, why aren't they coming legally like the ones you mention. I have no objection to passports and working in other countries

What is wrong with you people? Do you never take any notice of factual information?

One prime reason that these people are coming in on the boats is because there are no safe routes available to them. This has been pointed out time and time again.

Fossil fuels are still needed, countries in Europe are already beginning to use them again as they realise that wind and sun will never be enough. Why all or nothing why NET ZERO. The climate has always changed, this happened long before industrialisation, geology all over the world proves this, believing this does not make anyone a 'climate denier' in fact the opposite

What's wrong with aspiration towards NET ZERO?

I care more for helping people like this, before May signed the agreement to accept economic migrants as refugees' that is how it was, now we are where we are, with economic migrants trawling the world for the best deal.

Where's your evidence for this?

Most "economic" migrants come to the UK perfectly legally because they can earn more in the UK for doing work which is needed. For decades, people from the UK have worked abroad to earn more money than they could in the UK. What's the difference?

Climate change deniers aren't actually that important. Whether climate change is 'natural' or man-made, the results are the same so it is sensible for humankind not to make the matter worse by undertaking activities that contribute to global warming.

You do not pour petrol on a burning house

Climate change deniers are just spouting what they want to believe based on zero evidence.

You need to start reading real news is you really have no idea, there are hundreds of people including the very rich who are making money from all of this

Hundreds (thousands) of people have been making money from fossil fuels and products made from fossil fuels for decades.

It is often people in those industries that are Climate Change deniers.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/jan/30/fossil-fuel-industry-air-pollution-fund-research-caltech-climate-change-denial#:~:text=Experts%20say%20the%20documents%20show,action%20on%20the%20climate%20crisis.

"Experts say the documents show the fossil fuel industry had intimate involvement in the inception of modern climate science, along with its warnings of the severe harm climate change will wreak, only to then publicly deny this science for decades and fund ongoing efforts to delay action on the climate crisis.

“They contain smoking gun proof that by at least 1954, the fossil fuel industry was on notice about the potential for its products to disrupt Earth’s climate on a scale significant to human civilization,” said Geoffrey Supran,

an expert in historic climate disinformation at the University of Miami.

“These findings are a startling confirmation that big oil has had its finger on the pulse of academic climate science for 70 years – for twice my lifetime –

and a reminder that it continues to do so to this day. They make a mockery of the oil industry’s denial of basic climate science decades later.”

There are several regular Reform posters whom I disagree with but I can't imagine them being Climate Change deniers.

Do you think we have ever experienced a situation like this, migrants most days coming into this country expecting streets of gold? While the real refugees are languishing in camps and don't get involved with people smugglers

Ah! So you'd be happy if the UK invited real refugees from the camps, where (as you correctly point out) there are millions of people?

I want to check the source (s). tricia58 clearly believes what she posts.

I'm really concerned about this aspect of Reform policy. They say in the policy documents abandoning Net Zero climate policies is going to pay for the NHS end of waiting lists.

I'd like to see Farage challenged by a scientist in an interview to see how much he really knows (instead of just repeating that CO2 is good for us)

Years ago this country began collecting data in the form of census, this was to plan for the future generations, education, housing etc. Its not immigrants per se, its uncontrolled immigration that causes the problems.

But most immigration is controlled!

I do think there is a difference between people expressing concerns re immigration levels and somebody suggesting that the people in boats should be used for target practice.

Having said that, I am of the opinion that whenever there are tough times, people automatically seem to look for scapegoats - and politicians tend to follow the crowd because they are frightened of losing votes.

The chaos in our country has not been caused by immigrants but by an inept, dishonest and corrupt government.

Wyllow3 Tue 02-Jul-24 18:56:50

"not extremists who make a lot of money from it."

Who do you mean?

tricia58 Tue 02-Jul-24 18:45:40

I believe its always happened and nature deals with it, not extremists who make a lot of money from it.

Siope for a family with two Cambridge graduates, this video was very underwhelming and reminded me of playground banter. What was the point?

I think referencing the Gerald Scarfe cartoon of Farage from UKIP days?

Just seen Farage on the news- has he been on a sunbed? His skin looks like old leather. Perhaps he’s been sunning himself in the med, Richard Tice looks the same. We should be told. ( sorry to bring such a shallow tone to this erudite discussion).🙂

They have obviously been Tango’d! It’s the ultra chic look, perfected by Trump.
