Heaven help America….and the rest of us. My partner said when he was elected before that he was planning to start a dynasty. Is he also planning to destroy democracy, too?

And he - Not badge

(What is going on? Apologies!)

NotSpaghetti Tue 02-Jul-24 15:13:53

Exactly Callistemon213 - badge could decide who is his enemy if in power!

*win than

MayBee70 there is a lot of evidence that Biden is still more likely to within a "replacement". There are apparently seven main things to take account of. Biden has most/all of them. Someone else has 4/5. I don't know where read this. It's a calculation.

Wyllow3 Tue 02-Jul-24 15:05:31

One thing that stuck in my mind that day was how Trump was perfectly prepared to leave Pence - his own VP - stuck in the situation.

The world has judged Biden on that one debate, as has his own country. Most of us admire him. Most of us abhorr the thought of Trump being re-elected. But most of us see that, if Trump is to be defeated ( and it’s vitally important for the whole world as well as America that he is) Biden must stand down and allow someone else to do it. Even though he didn’t lie in the way that Trump did, he still got a lot of his facts wrong which destroyed his counter arguments against Trumps lies. People that want to vote for the Democrats but can’t vote for someone that will not be physically able to be president for another 4 years must be given an alternative. Biden will not defeat Trump as it stands. The last great public duty that Biden can perform is to step down and step down now.

Oh and this is how I felt before yesterday’s ruling that may put the president above the law. It’s even more important now that Trump is not elected…..

I have been assuming that Trump will get in anyway and just cannot imagine what will happen to the world. I happened to be ironing and watching TV when the assault on the Capitol took place, so saw it in real time. Truly terrifying! So many things are already in turmoil - we must brace ourselves for worse.

Callistemon213 - they mean an old-style monarch.
Not our sort - which is different.

The Orf With their Heads type, perhaps!

There are few north americans that I have met all over the world that I care for. This appalling selfcentred lunatic Trump who thinks that if he says something enough times it becomes true, is the example of the worst kind. I had hoped that Farrage would join him , but he has chickened out unfortunately. My hope was that some deranged american who has been allowed to have a gun might do us all a favour and get rid of trump and farrage at the same time. Surely there must be some gun happy idiot who would actually do us all a favour. Just look at the lot of them, liars cheats, untrustworthy and selfish, Why would you want any of them? We need people who put the needs of the world before themselves and do the right thing. No better over here. A prime minister who was representing Britian at the D day occasion left to deal with his sleazy political things. Shows where the Tories put the general public. Thinks saying "sorry" is enough for us to vote for him. Well we only have to look at the sorry state of the country now to see what their ruling has done for us. I told my son when he was leaving school that I would support him whatever he chose to do, as long as it was legal , and more importantly that he did NOT become a politician. I am glad to say he is a decent hardworking man, caring for his family, paying his taxes and doing his best, So obviously he would have been no good as a politician!!!

Surely if Trump won the Election it would be unfortunate BUT, how can anyone want the alternative that is Biden - especially after his last horrendous T.V. appearance? If Biden was elected who knows who would be behind him pulling the strings??

I do got one because Bidem has done a good job . You cannot judge his ability on one debate . A debate that Trump lief his way through . People on this thread should see that Trump is a clear and present danger , He has already made his mark on the Supreme Court and he will only continue if elected .

God help America ! The world is in turmoil - I’m thinking 1930’s - very dangerous times

Wyllow3 Tue 02-Jul-24 13:29:41

Just checked up on Biden's close advisors - a longstanding and good team - I think the words "pulling the strings" is inaccurate.
Unlike Trump, he doesn't sack and replace advisors regularly, constantly falling out with people. Issuing tweets all times of the night contradicting past ones.

I think he is more of a team player. Despite his age, he is more reliable than Trump. I too couldn't understand why a younger candidate hasn't been put forward but googling shows how difficult that would be process wise. Top democrats still endorsing Biden, they must have their reasons.

I worry for the safety of the entire planet if this guy comes into power again. Cannot believe Americans want a misogynistic, narcissistic psychopath for a president.

Yes, it’s a terrifying prospect.

The Democrat party? Would that not be better than Trump? Biden is old and I agree the debate was car crash but has anything other than gobbledegook and lies come out of Trumps mouth? Ever?

When he won first time my partner turned to me and said ‘he’s intending to create a dynasty’ and I didn’t pay much attention to it at the time. After the insurrection I genuinely thought that would be the end of him. I can’t believe where we are now. Or why people are supporting him.

Marthjolly1 Tue 02-Jul-24 12:33:00

If Trump were to win the next election, US will be on the road to a dictatorship. Nothing much scares me but this really does.

Why are the Democrats and the Biden family so determined to keep the current President in the election ? If he cannot continue for any reason his unpopular Vice President succeeds him. It has to be about more than ego
Do they know something we don’t ?

I don't understand that either, except he's done fairly well and is a known factor. Despite all the publicity around Trump, there is a very strong democratic vote in the country as a whole, made stronger by Trump's extremes.

WWM2 you might be interested re Jan 6th Capitol case in the CNN report, that suggests Trump may be immune in that case

There was a reason POTUS Trump ensured that the judiciary was 6 - 3 in his parties favour.

(Six were elected by Republican President, three by a Democratic President )

Absolutely! The judgment was split.

Daffonanna Tue 02-Jul-24 12:18:33

I agree Deedeedum , that thought occurred to me as well . Appalled right thinking Americans need however to have a rational alternative . Right now they must be wondering which way to turn .

deedeedum Tue 02-Jul-24 12:04:53

Actually, this judgement could work against him. This could be a decisive factor with"Right" thinking Americans who are equally appalled with this politically charged decision and will vote for Biden. Thank goodness in the UK we have the separation of powers which even Johnson could not change.

It was Judge Sotomayer that was quoted that we would now have a King. She is emphasizing the danger of this ruling.

undines Tue 02-Jul-24 12:01:46

We all love to hate Trump, but did anyone see the election confrontation between him and Biden? Biden is very senile and no way is he running the country - so who is?
