I was born in 1943. Very glad I was not born Dutch!! In Europe, the UK was the only relatively safe place to be born, and I'm eternally grateful for that.
Australia may come way above the UK on the list but many Australians I know like a good whinge about their country and how it is run!!
Absolutely 👍
We have one of our Aussie contingent here at the moment, not a happy Koala when it comes to Government, Health Service etc.
DD was happy about access to her GP in Australia and astonished that we now have to wait about a month just for a phone call from a GP! Mind you, health is devolved and we are in Wales. Six to eight weeks for a face-to-face appointment.
I’m happy about my country and fellow countrymen and way of life but the government- NO. We haven’t had a good PM for years here in Australia, they just seem to get worse and worse. All sides, “left” and “right”.
Don't get me wrong, I love your country but I know how the Australians like to moan about their political leaders (and who can blame them!).
Like many on here, I recognise that we have much to be thankful for compared to some, but my word for the UK at the moment would be EXHAUSTED. Nothing is easy or straightforward, and sadly, this is due to decisions made by government. I see this as being a direct result of Cameron and Osborne and their programme of austerity, we have neve recovered from it.

The UK may still be a good place to live, grandMattie.. but it's not the happiest! Not according to the 2024 William Russell happiness report. This considers lots of evidence such as perceptions of the environment, friendliness, safety, and inclusion.
Here's the list of the top 20 in order:
Finland Denmark Iceland Sweden Israel Netherlands Norway Luxembourg Switzerland Australia New Zealand Costa Rica Kuwait Austria Canada Belgium Ireland Czechia Lithuania United Kingdom
I believe this load of twaddle report is produced by "a partnership of Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and the WHR’s Editorial Board. The report is produced under the editorial control of the WHR Editorial Board"
William Russell (an insurance company) purely quoted it.
Yes. Where's France, Spain, Italy, Germany on the list then?
Wonderful This is a wonderful country and nothing will persuade me otherwise. Not perfect of course. But still absolutely wonderful. Not the government though. We badly need a change of government and that will happen tomorrow I think.
Grandmabatty - London also voted strongly to Remain - it wasn't just Scotland. London cannot campaign for independence, being part of England. Not sure what single word I would use but I think a lot of people are hoping for change
