I've NEVER been asked who I'm going to vote for and don't know anyone else who has. Has any Gransnetter been polled?
I don't understand how the polls have any credence

Aveline Wed 03-Jul-24 12:18:00

Apart from anything else I'd be tempted to give completely erroneous responses!

Never, although I have been old enough to vote for well over 50 years.

Never. No-one knocking at the door - this has not been done for years and years. In the early seventies I lived in Ealing. I had three babies in the house and no car. An incredibly nice young chap with a blue rosette drove me to the polling station and left his (female) colleague babysitting!! Oh trusting days........

Nannarose Wed 03-Jul-24 13:22:50

Yes, often.

NotSpaghetti Wed 03-Jul-24 13:26:35

Yes, often, through yougov

NotSpaghetti Wed 03-Jul-24 13:27:09

I have never been asked to do an exit poll though.

maddyone Wed 03-Jul-24 13:40:35

No, never.
We have now received a leaflet from the Liberal Dems Party and the Conservative Party through the door, but no one has called. No one ever does. No other leaflets even. There are about eight people standing though. All the main parties are represented and a couple of others and an Independent.

Sarnia Wed 03-Jul-24 13:43:46

No, never. Plenty of leaflets but nobody knocks. I have so much to say to them too grin

maddyone Wed 03-Jul-24 13:47:54

Me too Sarnia.
I would have some challenging things to say to them, whichever party is was. I think they simply don’t want the confrontation, and I mean that about whichever party they represented.

Siope Wed 03-Jul-24 13:50:51

Door knocking/canvassing isn’t the same as polling though. The results don’t feed into anything except individual parties’ planning and calculations.

National polling, using as a bare minimum representative samples from which to extrapolate a national position, is independent and more detailed, using questionnaires and surveys.

I assumed eddiecat was asking about the latter.

granfromafar Wed 03-Jul-24 13:52:27

Yes, for the first time this week. The councillors from the local Green Party knocked on the door. All the others have just bombarded us with leaflets, which go straight in the recycling box.
