I've NEVER been asked who I'm going to vote for and don't know anyone else who has. Has any Gransnetter been polled?
I don't understand how the polls have any credence

Leaflets delivered by the postman, no -one visits to ask for my vote, or otherwise, the approach from road to my house too long for them to bother! Jehova's Witness and Mormons are made of sterner stuff!!

That’s why they don’t call! Door-to-door canvassing was never about ‘converting’ people. There isn’t time for that. It was for each party to identify their voters and focus on getting them out to vote on the day. Elections are lost when supporters just don’t turn out. It’s pretty much just a PR stunt these days.

Never.

No because I dont open the door to casual callers. You need an appointment or a parcel to deliver to see me!

Magme Fri 05-Jul-24 11:48:05

Yes, on Wednesday this week.

25Avalon Fri 05-Jul-24 11:41:05

Yes via online survey.

Pittcity Fri 05-Jul-24 11:39:30

Yes. It's done through online surveys.
I do them regularly.
I'm also one of the 100 asked Pointless questions at times.

I have been and give the same answer every time. The ballot is secret and it is none of their business. I may choose to tell friends but would not give these people any thing

OldFrill Fri 05-Jul-24 11:29:20

Oops was a bit quick there. Tellers aren't polling, they are volunteer party activists concerned to get their members out to vote. The can ask how you'll vote or how you voted outside the polling station. They cant influence and you don't have to respond.

Maybe an exit poll?

Yes, Tellers are allowed to ask how you are going to vote or how you did vote.

JaneJudge Fri 05-Jul-24 11:18:16

I have previously but not this time

Jaxjacky Fri 05-Jul-24 11:17:25

The only physical visit we had was from the Conservative candidate, leaflets galore in the post box from most candidates, nobody outside the polling station.

rowyn Fri 05-Jul-24 11:17:12

I do online surveys and have had numerous ones asking me how I'm going to vote since the election was called.

Babamaman Fri 05-Jul-24 11:11:47

Yes, I’m on yougov ! Haven’t seen any candidates

Maybe an exit poll?

She writes in future tense, before she voted. This is definitely against the rules.

Polls on the way out are not, as the person has already voted and that can't be changed.

On the day, someone from one of the parties once knocked on the door and asked whether I’d voted yet, and if so, who I’d voted for.
I told them I was under the impression that in this country voting was a private matter.

Afterwards I wished I’d gaily lied instead - would have served them right! 😈

Maybe an exit poll?

No but I have been asked how I am going to vote by someone official outside the polling station.
I replied by putting a tick in the appropriate box. 😬

It is illegal to canvas people outside a polling station. This person should have been reported.

@ that would be a waste of my vote. In my area they are not strong enough.

varian Wed 03-Jul-24 18:05:18

I do hope since no other party seems to want your vote, that you will vote Liberal Democrat!

Willow11 Wed 03-Jul-24 17:54:58

We have lived in our bungalow nearly 20 years.
In all that time there has never been anyone from any political party knock on the door.
No phone calls. But this year for the first time we received one leaflet from the liberal democratics.
We live on an estate in a mid sized town.

Daily (just about) in London by Labour, Conservatives and LibDems, canvassed and/or polled. I think it's really cheeky to ask a complete stranger which party they plan to vote for! I just say "I wouldn't dream if disclosing that information" with my best smile.

Visgir1 Wed 03-Jul-24 17:40:25

No, never met anyone who has, but we had the Labour candidate and the current Conservative MP called at the house. She turned up in her jeans with her supporters, she was very cheerful and upbeat, far different than the person you see on TV or in the news.
I will be so surprised if our Conservative MP fails to keep her seat, she's a very controversial MP but very popular in the area.

M0nica Wed 03-Jul-24 17:30:13

I have never been polled, but I have been canvassedin the past.

I think nowadays, most candidates do not have enough workers to do much canvassing, plus people answering the door are more likely to be threatening and abusive, which makes it a health and safety issue - and , of course, so often nobody is in.
