Anyone else feel a sense of impending doom that we’ll have a Labour government tomorrow?

I’d like to feel optimistic that things will improve I really would - I was pleased Blair got in in 97, but this feels different some how?
I’m kind of dreading the next - god knows how many years - under Labour.
Oh well.

Who is actually voting for Labour in the real world? I know on here they have their fans but on social media not many want a Labour government yet the polls say otherwise, it's very strange, could the polls be wrong and will Labour voters bother getting out to vote if they think Labour have won already?

You do understand that what you see on social media reflects your activity online, and is therefore no more meaningful or accurate than my social media (which tells me a very different story)?

Under the last Labour government there were 35 food banks. Under the current (not for long) Tory government there are 3,572. They should be ashamed.

I assume you realise that your "social media" isn't the same as somebody else's "social media".

Why not? Every other party is doing it.

Careful what you wish for has been said. Those who support reform uk should bear that phrase in mind. Farage says openly that he wants to get rid of the nhs. He does not believe in free at the point of need.

Rubbish Farage said it will always be free at the point of delivery.

I don't only go on Reform sites. Yes Labour will win but I haven't seen much enthusiasm for them anywhere.

Ah! It might very well be free, but what will be left of it?

NHS dentists are (almost) free, but have you tried finding one recently?

MissAdventure Thu 04-Jul-24 12:12:57

Been trying since lockdown, and the longer it goes, the more I need doing.

Any idea about Labour’s wealth tax on pensioners? With hourly fees of £38 and double for the weekend and Bank holidays for home based social care, I wonder how many rich pensioners there are?

He also said, in one of the interminable debates last month, that he thought we should have a similar system to the French, then blatantly lied that it was still free at the point of use, because all upfront costs are refunded by the State. I am sure France based posters will confirm this is not the case for everyone.

Nothing after 5 years of a Labour Government, you think it's bad now just wait the whole country will be worse off. That's why posters have a sense of impending doom. The Labour government will soon start to crumble.

Care to cite a source for this 'wealth tax', ronib?

Preferably from a Labour source

Not how the French system works. Definitely not how the US one does. So no, in his own words, many many times, he has said he does not want a free at the point if delivery, universal healthcare system.

I believe he is lying now when he says he does; if you believe he is telling the truth now, you need to acknowledge that he lied repeatedly before. If you want to vote for him regardless, you rock on, but don’t pretend you’re not voting for a liar.

I’m not expecting a honeymoon period but there will be “feelgood” period it’s upto us to make the best of it, those with wealth, wether they are pensioners or not can expect more tax.

Yes absolutely, saw an article today saying if you own a house have savings and a pension your doomed so time to sell house and spend I suspect 🙈🙈

Merion Thu 04-Jul-24 12:37:33

In answer to the opening post.

No. I had a sense of impeding doom in 2010 (Tories won the election), which grew even larger in 2016 (EU referendum) , grew even more in 2019 (Johnson foist upon us) and 2020 (when we left the EU). I simply don't understand why anyone wants more of the same.

Conservative Danny Kruger:

The Tories ‘represent the change’ and Labour ‘would carry on a failed state."

James O'Brien: "That’s got to be the stupidest contribution of the election campaign.”

I dare say there's a lot of competition for that but this was a Tory saying that the Tories have failed the state so please let them carry on.

What's going to happen to home-owning pensioners with savings?

westendgirl Thu 04-Jul-24 12:39:54

I feel much less despondent at the thought of a Labour government. Of course it will take time to untangle the mess the Tories have left .It will also be good to have a PM in charge who puts the country first.

Do you have some kind of crystal ball? What evidence is there to support this doom-mongering?
