60%?? I heard on the news this morning that turnout was 52% which is shocking.

our turnouts for all neighbouring borough was around 70% which I still think is low when you consider how many people cannot vote

Our turnout for 4 constituencies was 43%, 52%, 52% and 65%

I wonder what’s going on in Basildon and East Thurrock, which is one of the undeclared seats? There are only 5 seats outstanding, with recounts and the Scottish Isles accounting for the others, but it says for this seat ‘Counting was paused at Basildon South and East Thurrock earlier this morning and will resume at 2pm for a full recount.’ Sounds like something dodgy has happened.

I'm sure Baildon held conservative,because it was one of the surprising things to me.

I lived in Basildon when I was young. The MP was Eric Moonman (Labour) but the constituency was then Billericay. I joined had joined the YCs because they were supposedly a good social group and I actually leafleted for the Tory candidate. (1966 GE) I soon recognised my mistake.

You were right MOnica There was an overall turnout of a miserable 60% I believe.
Perhaps some can’t be bothered to vote because with our FPTP system, they feel that their vote never counts?

I just checked again, there’s still no result, it’s one of two outstanding constituencies.

I’m guessing it must be incredibly close to call there for them to need to recount every single vote, assuming they have already done one recount and had to give the counters a break before starting the whole process again from the beginning?

I think they siad there was a discrepancy between the tally of the results and the numberer of votes counted as cast.

Just seen it, the majority was 98, which accounts for he recount. So many seats are really close.

Yes the other Basildon seat was won by the Conservatives by just 20 votes.
