I just had to see that headlining a thread.

We’ve waited so long for this. Let’s spend a day enjoying it before all the problems start to crown in.

boheminan Fri 05-Jul-24 07:22:20

YES!!!! A great day...

Casdon Fri 05-Jul-24 07:28:37

I’ll start us off with the perfect song for the moment. Van Morrison. Strong coffee and a croissant are called for.

Yes - we can have some hope. None of us expecting miracles but we can hope for a government with the desire to improve our nhs and public services.

BlueBelle Fri 05-Jul-24 07:30:59

Yessssssss totally agree with your post Iam it’s going to be far from perfect they have 14 dire years to try and change but we have a chance at last 🌞

keepcalmandcavachon Fri 05-Jul-24 07:38:14

Yes! Awesome song Casdon, and all the young ones singing 'Things Can Only Get Better'. sunshine

Great result. And so many big Tory names are out!

Sarnia Fri 05-Jul-24 07:40:10

I daresay at times it isn't going to be pretty but the Tories defeat is entirely self-inflicted. 14 years to break Britain, in fighting, lies, lies and more lies and no progress made on Sunak's pledges, particularly immigration. The electorate had clearly had enough.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 05-Jul-24 07:40:44

Good choice casdon

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 05-Jul-24 07:47:49

I agree WWM - Casdon picked the right song for today. There are tough times ahead, no doubt, but just now - it's a good morning.

I’m very hopeful, at last.

nanna8 Fri 05-Jul-24 07:50:31

Hope they turn out to be good for the country. I think the Conservatives got their comeuppance even though I don’t really like Labour. The Libdems did well, I think I would probably have gone for them if I voted.

spottybook Fri 05-Jul-24 07:51:53

God help us all!

spottybook Fri 05-Jul-24 07:53:52

Be careful what you wish for

VioletSky Fri 05-Jul-24 07:54:41

Brilliant!

rosie1959 Fri 05-Jul-24 08:03:03

Certainly not a surprise. Our constituency as expected stayed blue the Labour Party came third
Not particularly excited about a Labour government but hey ho life goes on.

I love Van Morrison.. I'm delighted with the results especially as The Greens got 4 seats.. tough times ahead though..

Silvergirl Fri 05-Jul-24 08:08:23

Good news to wake up to. An adult in charge who tells the truth and cares about people less fortunate than himself.

dragonfly46 Fri 05-Jul-24 08:09:01

Best news of the night - Liz Truss lost her seat!

dragonfly46 Fri 05-Jul-24 08:12:33

Worst news of the night - Farage got in! Be interesting to see how often he shows up.

Musicgirl Fri 05-Jul-24 08:13:34

I'm with Rosie1959. It was the result we expected and I agree that the Tories deserved to lose but l don't like Sir Keir Starmer or Angela Rayner. In the end, I went for the Lib Dems and I am very happy that they have so many more seats this time.

Musicgirl Fri 05-Jul-24 08:14:22

Oh, and we stayed blue as expected, too.

Best news of the night - Liz Truss lost her seat!

I just watched her speech, she blames the defeat on the party not delivering on lower taxes and immigration, she is obviously incapable of self reflection, awful woman and quite a contrast to Robert Buckland who was very gracious in defeat and scathing about the behaviour of some Tories.

AGAA4 Fri 05-Jul-24 08:25:24

Will things get better? Stay the same? Get worse? Only time will tell.
I can only hope for the first and dread the last.

Yes - we can have some hope. None of us expecting miracles but we can hope for a government with the desire to improve our nhs and public services.

They have an uphill battle but hopefully the emphasis, obsession even, on lowering taxes at the expense of public services will be over.
