This fifth seat for Reform is an example of FPTP working in Reform’s favour. If they build their membership and let their members choose who will represent them at the next election, they will wipe the floor. The whole point of FPTP is that you build a quorum ahead of the election, not afterwards. It’s a ruthless system, but it ensures each constituency gets the person who best represents their views.

Getting the third highest percentage vote across the country is a magnificent feat for such a new party!. It’s interesting that Reform came second in so many constituencies, which of course, does not win you a seat but means you are on the right track.

Yes, I did an A level in sociology at night school.

So did I - it was a pleasure rather than a chore. So interesting to learn about what people do - and the lecturer emphasised that curtain twitching is not nosiness, it is 'Empirical Research'. Evidently we all seem to be interested in others, to a degree, and I would have liked to follow on with psychology, to delve in to why we do what we do. However, like you, events curtailed further study at that time.

No, it means that peers of the realm (and a knight is not a peer of the realm) will no longer automatically sit in the second chamber, which is currently the House of Lords. Nor will the Anglican bishops.

Not that any proposals have been put forward yet. I doubt it's a Labour priority at the moment. There are things which directly affect people which need attending to first.

It doesn't affect any titles art all (which, I suspect, only the monarch can deprive people of as it is the monarch who confers honours)

It’s often how research is done. For example, particular advertisements are often aimed at a particular demographic.

Thank God someone is talking about class and poverty. The labour party for a while seemed to forget it was an issue.

This wholeobsession with class is loopy. It doesn't exist. The only deliniator now is money. Whether you are very poor, poor, managing, confortable very comfortable rich, or extremely rich, matters far more than than how oyur parents earned their wage.

But it does exist so we may as well get it right not dismiss everything as nonsense unless it’s part of the celebrity culture.

A low turn out then only 35% of that is not a resounding victory, FPTP doesnt work, we need more proportional representation. Reform got more votes than Lib Dems/ 4 seats and 71 seats is a ridiculous situation.

Incidentally, when I studied this during my higher education, I learnt it’s nothing to do with how our parents earned their income, except for dependent children, but how we earn our income.
Therefore, Starmer is not working class.
