For those feeling nervous over the governments competence and who believe the propaganda put out by the right wing media, I thought I would start recording the day by day development of the governments activity.

Day 1
The PM appointed the cabinet, and was briefed by the permanent secretary.

The PM gave advice over urgent domestic issues needing immediate attention, as well as urgent security matters.

The Prime Minister signed off letters to the heads of the military, giving instructions over action in case of nuclear threat.

The Prime Minister will begin preparations for his NATO visit to Washington next week.

Sir Keir Starmer will have decided domestic issues over his living arrangements etc.

The Home Secretary -Yvette Cooper - killed the Rwanda plan. However it was disclosed by the Home Office that there was in fact no such plan in operation - no work had been carried out on any plan for months. So my goodness - was that one of the last lies told to the public by the previous government?

Wind turbines automatically stop when the wind is in excess of 90mph

Should every new building have solar panels?

it is required that you include energy saving measures and offsets such as cheap new build solar panels. These include solar panels or solar thermal systems

These are the rules in Scotland for new builds

Joseann Wed 10-Jul-24 09:50:04

Wind turbines can't just be placed anywhere. The ground has to be geologically sound too. DS writes up reports for sites after strict tests have been carried out. Then, all the foundations have to be laid down. Lengthy process.
I hope we can tap into more renewable sources. Solar panels are the easiest installation, but I'm sure other sources will eventually become more widespread too.

Mollygo Wed 10-Jul-24 09:50:30

You can have solar tiles as well, and evidently solar driveways. The French have been ahead of us for some time with solar panels on supermarket car parks.

Yes that is right, which apart from it’s elevation the first wind farm was built on granite!

David49 Wed 10-Jul-24 10:18:39

There are none in my county, in the next county there are a lot scattered across the rural area in small groups, obviously wind speed is higher at higher elevations but these are exactly the places they can be seen more easily. Many are also areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty or National Parks, on the continent they have a remedy for that, they paint them green!.

Far better than using up farmland with swathes of solar panels.

Here in the south there was an initiative which stalled under the Tories, but I assume could easily be restarted.

Solar panels were put alongside motorways.

keepingquiet Wed 10-Jul-24 13:03:43

Solar panels can objectively be installed in any setting which allows contact with sunlight. The problem is a lack of application and imagination. They also need to be maintained and replaced given time.

M0nica Wed 10-Jul-24 17:26:49

Thee should be solar panels on all new commercial and industrial buildings. Most have flat roofs.

There should also be incentives for retrofitting them on existing commercial and industrial buildings.

Not forgetting the promise to curtail the use of private aircraft for government business - well that didn’t last long did it?

keepingquiet Wed 10-Jul-24 19:26:26

Who has been in private aircraft on government business?

M0nica Wed 10-Jul-24 19:39:39

Curtailing is not banning and banning would be impractical. There will be real security issues about Starmer and others using commercial flights, with known tiletables and flight paths, plus the right flight may not be going to the right place at the right time.

Casdon Wed 10-Jul-24 19:47:54

Te flight to the US would have already been booked, it’s not the sort of arrangement you make in less than a week. I’d imagine there is a contract in place with a company for a set period.

ronib Wed 10-Jul-24 20:32:35

Rachel Reeves promised to enforce ministerial rules on the use of private aircraft for official trips to save the taxpayer millions. Healey £60k and Starmer £90k on RAF so far in less than a week in power. Do we know just what the ministerial rules are relating to air travel?
Who paid for Mrs Starmer to go to NATO?

Casdon Wed 10-Jul-24 20:35:22

ronib it’s been less than a week. Your short term expectations are unrealistic, particularly for a party you don’t think can do the job. As my son says to me, time to take a chill pill.

ronib Wed 10-Jul-24 20:41:18

Casdon. Ministerial code - non scheduled flights may be allowed when a scheduled service is not available….so broken the rules already?

Casdon Wed 10-Jul-24 20:50:13

The flights will already have been booked ronib, during the election period if not before, to take the leader to the summit. Unless you think a PM clicks his finger and the genie appears out of the lamp. No, the ministerial code has not been broken, and I highly doubt you’d be making such wild accusations if Sunak was still PM.

ronib Wed 10-Jul-24 20:52:22

Casdon Sunak was constantly criticised for his travel arrangements I recall.

Casdon Wed 10-Jul-24 21:06:27

I’m not playing a silly game with you about this ronib. I didn’t criticise Sunak for taking private jets and I’m not going to criticise Starmer either, particularly when he’s been in post for only 5 days. It’s ridiculous.

LizzieDrip Wed 10-Jul-24 21:07:43

For the love of God ronib KS is our Prime Minister, representing the UK on the world stage. Do you expect him to fly Easy Jet! And why shouldn’t Lady Starmer go with him - they had both been invited to dine with the Bidens. Pretty important stuff!

ronib Wed 10-Jul-24 21:11:38

Not just Starmer but Lammy and Healey too. There’s a set of rules about travel.

Siope Wed 10-Jul-24 21:36:34

There is a big difference between flying in an official plane to an international summit, and popping up and down to places like Southampton in privately owned helicopters and planes which are being paid for by party donors.

Casdon Wed 10-Jul-24 21:39:04

Like this, for example.
