So what about the effect on climate? I meant to type ….
A Swell Idea From ASDA To Deter Shoplifters!
Bereavement wipes out everything
For those feeling nervous over the governments competence and who believe the propaganda put out by the right wing media, I thought I would start recording the day by day development of the governments activity.
Day 1
The PM appointed the cabinet, and was briefed by the permanent secretary.
The PM gave advice over urgent domestic issues needing immediate attention, as well as urgent security matters.
The Prime Minister signed off letters to the heads of the military, giving instructions over action in case of nuclear threat.
The Prime Minister will begin preparations for his NATO visit to Washington next week.
Sir Keir Starmer will have decided domestic issues over his living arrangements etc.
The Home Secretary -Yvette Cooper - killed the Rwanda plan. However it was disclosed by the Home Office that there was in fact no such plan in operation - no work had been carried out on any plan for months. So my goodness - was that one of the last lies told to the public by the previous government?
So what about the effect on climate? I meant to type ….
In ferro veritas.
Exactly!
As Siope says, the plane is the official government plane. It was used by Johnson, Truss & Sunak.
KS is accompanied by advisors and a ‘press pack’ who interview him during the flight. Chris Mason (BBC) is one of the journalists on the flight to the USA and writes about the PM’s workload during the flight. He’s hardly swanning about in the lap of luxury.
Don’t worry ronib, I’m sure GuidoFawkes will come up with something else very soon.
So Rachael Reeves didn’t say anything about saving money on air travel? Must have imagined it ….
But Rachael did - 23rd October 2023 bbc.co.uk
Labour would clamp down on jet use by ministers
Phew - good memory still!
And? Who says that won’t happen?
As I’ve said, clamping down on unnecessary jet use is not the same as stopping necessary journeys.
👏
Sums it up. Proportional to need.
The Prime Minister is to go to Germany to watch England in the Euro finals 😊
Of course he is, and should. And no doubt Prince William will be there. Maybe they can share the jet

A lighter event, from the tour of the UK, this was in the Senedd. The end is a lovely moment.

Prison crises.
Earlier this week we saw that the prisons were in severe crises.
This week the government is acting to begin to address the crises and will announce plans on Friday to release prisoners early to stop jails becoming full.
Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood is expected to set out a suite of emergency measures to free up space in prisons.
The main measure will be automatically releasing prisoners on “standard determinate sentences” after they have served 40% of their sentence, government sources confirmed.
There will be exemptions for sexual and serious violent offenders.
What, I wonder, is a ‘non-serious’ violent offender? If the offence was sufficient to warrant a custodial sentence it was serious.

I suspect that they are using the same parameters as the Tories did.
NATO
After his first official bilateral talks with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, at the Nato summit in Washington, the prime minister confirmed the military aid would continue until at least 2030-31.
In his talks with Zelenskiy, Starmer underscored that Ukraine was on an “irreversible” path to Nato membership. However, diplomats at the Nato summit say that setting out any firm timetable would be a gift to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
Today the prime minister will tell his fellow leaders: “Nato was founded by the generation who defeated fascism. They understood not just the value of our strength, but the strength of our values.
“Those values are under attack once again. Putin needs to hear a clear message ringing out from this summit – a message of unity and determination, that we will support Ukraine with whatever it takes, for as long as it takes to uphold our shared values and our shared security.”

Non-serious violent offenders is a oxymoron
I haven’t read that that’s exactly what the government said, but if it’s true, the second part of that word is a good description.
On May 15, Starmer challenged Sunak over plans for early release of prisoners, but now it’s evidently OK.
We will have to wait for release of plans for what those released, or those not incarcerated under the new rules will be expected to do.
Hour of Lords
It is apparently the second biggest political chamber in the world. Second only to the Chinese!!
How ridiculous!
So the government is beginning to reform this second unelected chamber.
First by introducing a retirement age of 80.
Those who are criticising the early release plan should suggest what else should be done.
By the end of July - 2 weeks time- the prisons will be completely full.
That’s what it asked on Moral Maze-whether we should at age when considering people’s usefulness.
Evidently this government thinks we should.
Environment
Water bosses will meet the Environment Secretary Steve Reed as the government introduces new measures to ensure that money earmarked for investment and improvements is ringfenced and cannot be diverted to pay salaries or dividends.
Customer panels will have powers to hold directors and executives to account while compensation to customers for failures to hit required standards could be more than doubled.
Environment
Reed said: “The unacceptable destruction of our waterways should never have been allowed, but change has now begun so it can never happen again.
“Over the coming weeks and months, this government will outline further steps to reform the water sector and restore our rivers, lakes and seas to good health.”
There are better and more equitable ways to reduce the size of the House of Lords, than this simplistic, ageist route.
Doing it straight after giving Margaret Beckett, who is 81 and Margaret Hodge, who will be 80 in September, life peerages seems a bit of a misstep too.
The new Government are definitely keen to be seen to talk the talk
I look forward to seeing and hearing when the talk gives way to actions and results.

Something which the previous Government lost sight of unfortunately.
No. WWM2 That’s what we’re paying the government to sort out.
I don’t totally disagree with either early release or with different ways of treating criminals instead of imprisonment, but those who suggest early release should be more open on what they plan to do with those early released.
More importantly, on what basis the crime will be assessed as suitable for early release. The non-serious violent crime category you mentioned earlier is very worrying.
