Were they all real or were some just AI candidates?

So why are you so critical of me being critical of him?

I haven't criticised you at all, just put forward an alternative view, which is fully covered in previous posts. I shan't repeat it all again. It was only my last post which was a bit tongue in cheek about following all the other politicians. 🙂

As I said elsewhere on Gransnet- just look at the project 2025 stuff!
It's basically a move to an elected dictatorship.

Reform will be empowered by it. Which frightens me when I read about the things Trump has planned for his vision of America.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 15-Jul-24 11:50:46

I was reading an interesting article concerning what may happen if Trump regains the presidency.

Trump is an authoritarian which is why he is so admiring of other authoritarians like Putin and Orban.

Interestingly Orban has invited Trump to Hungary in November - presumably after the election - to meet up with Putin.

The more liberal European leaders will hopefully be planning for this eventuality, although authoritarian parties in Europe like the far right on the mainland and Reform in the U.K. will I assume welcome it.

I'm not sure what my feelings have to do with anything especially as I'm not a Reform voter. As Farage is a UK politician I've never liked his relationship with Trump and it's a very bad move going over there now. If I lived in Clacton I would be writing to him asking why he was doing that.

Is it true that Farage is planning to fly to America to support his friend Trump? What about Clacton?? Shouldn’t he be there to support his new constituents?

Are you following every move of all 650 MPs or just stalking him? Maybe you can tell us where all the the others are.

Believe me I don’t want to see, hear or read anything about the man ever again, but every time I turn the tv on, read the paper or go onto my iPad he’s there being interviewed about everything. I’m surprised that they haven’t asked him about why we lost the football match the other night. Out of interest how do you feel about him flying out to America to be with his friend Trump? How do you feel about the close relationship he seems to have with Trump? And the fact that he puts that friendship before his responsibilities towards this country and his constituents?

I don't know if anyone else might find this piece in The Atlantic interesting.
I did.

www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/07/donald-trump-democracy-dictator/679006/

‘When a madman hammered nearly to death the husband of then–House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Donald Trump jeered and mocked. One of Trump’s sons and other close Trump supporters avidly promoted false claims that Paul Pelosi had somehow brought the onslaught upon himself through a sexual misadventure.

After authorities apprehended a right-wing-extremist plot to abduct Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Trump belittled the threat at a rally. He disparaged Whitmer as a political enemy. His supporters chanted “Lock her up.” Trump laughed and replied, “Lock them all up.”’
This is the political atmosphere that Trump has created, which started with the chanting about Hillary Clinton.

Well said.

Sorry, cross-posting. My last post meant Farage’s article in the Guardian.

Siope Mon 15-Jul-24 10:10:08

The article is seeking to blame the left in the US for the shooting at the Trump rally. The Trumpian elements of the Republicans (electorate and elected) have been doing this since it happened. It’s pure nonsense.

Siope I see he says I implore the Left to think very carefully about how they seek to play politics
🙄

I seem to remember Trump being less than kind when Nancy Pelosi's husband was so violently attacked.

Siope Mon 15-Jul-24 09:51:25

The others aren’t busily writing self-important Telegraph articles about their flight plans.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/07/14/im-flying-to-america-to-support-trump-in-desperate-hour/

It’s paywalled but other papers have it now.

Shock horror, I think it entirely likely that Farage and his leave campaigners lied - again and again.

The leave campaign was won by lies, cheating and foreign interference.

They celebrated in the Kremlin when Farage and his fellow "useful idiots" did their bidding.

We obviously read different sources.

I’ve kept most of the leaflets given out by the leave campaign so I’ve got written proof of their lies.

Maybee70 Thank you for your post. When will some people realise that migration is the result of many factors? We are all humans with the same needs, some of us are born lucky and some of are not and we have little control over that and as a relatively wealthy country we should accept our fair share of refugees/asylum seekers and treat them humanely. It is a measure of our civilisation.

MayBee70 Sat 13-Jul-24 19:06:14

Because that is the only issue facing this country. Crowded prisons, NHS crisis, housing, sewage, lack of funding for education ( including crumbling schools) everything is due to people crossing the channel on boats. And the Conservatives weren’t able to resolve the problem because of the previous Labour government and the Labour Party when it was in opposition. And now it’s the fault of the current Labour government because they’ve been in power for a whole week and still haven’t sorted it out….sad

foxie48 Sat 13-Jul-24 18:36:46

I'm aware this probably should have gone on this thread but I'm feeling a bit cross at how so many threads start off as one thing and morph into a thread about asylum seekers!

If the argument that asylum seekers put undue pressure on housing, NHS, schools etc is accurate why does no one on the right mention the Tory decision to recruit 600,000 overseas students at a time when they could bring families? The target was easily reached and many students overstay their visas and eventually obtain permission to stay. tbh I don't have a problem with this but the reason the tories were keen on this was because it effectively brought money into the country and funded HE. However, these students still need somewhere to live, education for their children and all the other things that people need to live but never ever a word. I wish people would be honest about their reasons for supporting Reform and people like Bravermann. It's got little to do with us being a small island that can't cope with more people, overseas students outnumber asylum seekers by a long way. I can't help but think it's actually all about racism.

Dictionary definition of Scaremongering:
- spreading frightening or ominous reports or rumours.
"scaremongering tactics designed to frighten voters"

That is what is happening - frightening or ominous reports and rumours. Whether it proves to be founded or not is a different matter, and only experience will confirm.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 13-Jul-24 18:11:08

Exactly so. At present it isn’t looking good.
