Another evil monster in court

Gavin Plumb is being sentenced after plotting to kidnap, rape and murder Holly Willoughby. The judge is going through an appalling list of past offences

He's only got 15 years !!!!!!

I don't know but I assume the judge had to follow certain 'guidelines' when passing sentence.

Plumb maintained that it was just 'fantasy' - which the judge clearly didn't believe - but what is the tariff for what he did, which is plan a crime but not execute it?

If Plumb had not committed those previous assaults - kidnap - which the judge took into consideration, it's possible he would serve even less time!

The very description 'a life sentence' is of course misleading, it is not a whole life sentence.

From what I understand (very little) a court takes into consideration everything they know about the defendant, any other offences, and their pattern of behaviour.

What we have learned about this repugnant individual from his past assaults against women - and what his ex partner has said about the way he treated her - it does seem to be rather a light sentence for a man who appears to have a pathological need to abuse, torture and kill.

Apparently his plans were so depraved that they can't be reported. I imagine that the policy and the jury will need counselling.

15 years doesn't seem much for the magnitude of what he was planning. 3 life sentences to run concurrently says 1 life sentence to me. Make him serve those 3 life sentences consecutively. Making him 82.

He got away very lightly when charged with previous offences.

When will life mean life?

This monster is a danger to women and girls and should never be released, never have access to a phone or any communication with the outside world again.

He won't even serve half his sentence as the prisons are so full that some prisoners are being released after serving less than half...what justice is that..

I believe that prisoners involved in sexual assaults, domestic violence, or terror-related crimes, are among those who are not going to be released early.

Nor those who are just starting their sentences.

That is not true - he will not be eligible for parole for 15 years and hopefully, please God, he will not be considered suitable at that point

Sorry love should mean life, not having a look in 15 years time!

Absolutely right, 'life should me life' but we need new legislation for that

We have got people serving “all of life” but that’s usually at a Judge’s discretion, backed up by the Home Secretary.

HousePlantQueen Fri 12-Jul-24 16:42:41

This man is morally and physically repugnant, will likely fail to convince a parole board in 15+years time that he is a reformed man. He is the kind of incel who likely follows the philosophy of the repellent Tate brothers, believing that he needs to act like a "real man" to attract a woman. Although his physical attributes should not overshadow his crimes, the thought of him sexually abusing or raping a woman made me feel sick, how any man like him would think that he is physically attractive to a woman is beyond me

i don't understand that comment.
the death penalty was abolished many years ago in the uk.
i don't think it exists in Europe.
cert not western europe.

I know the death penalty was abolished many years ago but in cases of murder it should be brought back. If the perpetrator is found guilty after DNA checks then they should be executed.

The criminal justice system is ridiculous. This man has got 15 years in prison, that is not justice that is a comedy of errors.

eazybee Fri 12-Jul-24 16:30:37

He committed two previous offences, the second one holding two girls captive in a stock room and tying one up. The first offence was given a suspended sentence, the second offence I don't know, but in a Police Officer's opinion, far too lenient. He has gone on to plan and prepare an appalling attack.
How many of these early release prisoners will go on to offend again, because they see themselves as having 'got away with it.'?
Why will no-one build more prisons?

Dickens Fri 12-Jul-24 15:56:33

The judge thought it unlikely that he would have been able to carry out his evil plan because of his compromised health - due to his gross obesity.

That came under the 'mitigating' circumstances that he enumerated in his summing up.

But quite clearly Plumb was attempting to recruit 'crew' to help him, and if he'd managed to find a suitable accomplice, he might well have tried to carry out his fantasy. Bearing n mind he was also planning to abduct Holly's husband and threaten her children, goodness only knows how it all might have ended.

The man is clearly not very intelligent - in one of his messages he says that he would get Holly to sign some kind of declaration to say that she went willingly with him (to wherever he intended to take her) and that she agreed to everything that would be done to her - if he believes that sort of message / declaration would actually be taken seriously, and believed, he must be very very stupid, apart from anything else.

I think the judge was sentencing according to guidelines - as they do - but I cannot believe this monster will ever be safe around women. But we won't be the ones to decide, it will be the parole board, and I have no idea what criteria they will use to make such a decision, plus, stupid or not, Plumb tried hard when he was arrested to convince the arresting officers that, "well, huh, everyone fantasises about Holly Willoughby don't they" with a mock grin.

Women just are not safe are they? Not on the streets, in clubs, pubs, on public transport, not even in the security of their own homes. These evil bastards make all women prospective victims.

I think that once a man has shown such 'tendencies' - and this one did have previous convictions in spite of the fact his acts were clumsy and probably destined to fail - they should be watched for the rest of their lives. Whatever it is that prompts such fantasies, and acts of violence, doesn't I'm sure magically disappear during their time in prison. All they do is learn how to 'behave' themselves well enough to convince a board of 'experts' that they are 'going straight'.

I find it horrifying.

Cossy Fri 12-Jul-24 15:53:03

I’m amazed he’s not been incarcerated in Broadmoore for ever!!

mae13 Fri 12-Jul-24 15:43:14

But, on the plus side, this disgusting individual looks like an ideal candidate for a fatal heart attack in the near future. After all, at one point he told the judge he had difficulty just trying to stand up in court because of his weight.

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 12-Jul-24 15:17:09

I hope that the parole board is clear eyed when he comes up for review. I fear that even at sixty three he would pose a significant potential risk to women.

karmalady Fri 12-Jul-24 14:25:36

plumb was making plans to hurt her husband and children too, to get them out of the way.

He worked as a security guard, to keep people safe.

Holly was very brave, she must be having nightmares and will do so for the rest of her life

Sparklefizz Fri 12-Jul-24 14:12:58

He's a truly terrifying individual. Thank goodness for that US police officer who was on the ball.

These monsters are clever and manipulative though. There have been others in the past who managed to pull the wool over the eyes of the parole board. There was that "Black Cab Guy" who was very nearly released until there was public revolt.

Gavin Plumb should never be released but I don't trust that this will happen.

mae13 Fri 12-Jul-24 14:06:56

Lock him up, toss away the key and let him starve!

This is what would happen until the prison reforms of the Victorian era: criminals had to rely on someone on the outside to bring them food or money - if you had no-one to supply these then you passed away from starvation or gaol fever from being incarcerated in unbelievably filthy conditions.

How long would this monster have lasted in those days?

JaneJudge Fri 12-Jul-24 13:58:06

I have never been Holly Willoughby's biggest fan but this poor lady must have been terrified when she was told about this evil man's plot to kidnap, rape and murder her. I hope they lock him up and throw away the key. I hope Holly is getting all the support she needs. She shouldn't feel as risk in her own home. Three cheers to the US policeman who reported him otherwise this could have had a tragic ending.

that's what I thought

Hopefully he will never see the light of day again, parole board will consider at 15 years but hopefully no chance of him being granted parole.
I listened to the judge's account before sentencing, truly horrifying stuff.

Bridie22 Fri 12-Jul-24 13:39:41

Agreed, since when was a life sentence 5 years?
