Secret Service now being blamed for lack of preparation. Trumps supporters en masse on S/M blaming democrats (forgetting the Capitol invasion!).

I'd like to know as far as possible the motivations of the young man with the sniper rifle before conclusions are leapt to.

A witness saw a man crawling up the roof with a rifle and said he and others tried to alert the police several minutes before the attack.
Were the police slow to take action?

What struck me about Trump following the assassination attempt was that he was virtually fighting off the attempts of his security police to get him into the van, so determined was he to appear triumphant and death defying. oblivious to the fact that they were creating a human shield and could easily be shot themselves.

Why was he asking for his shoes? Does he take them off when he’s speaking at rallies? He gave no thought that others may have been hurt or may be hurt.

Why is it daft? He was heard to say it and I’m curious to know why he was searching for his shoes and asking his security men to find them. If he was dazed and confused he was still capable of fist pumping and shouting to the crowd? When something similar happened when he was in a debate with Hillary Clinton he legged it off the stage as quickly as possible whereas Hillary’s first concern was that no one hade been hurt.

I know Urms and that’s an example of what I was referring to upthread.

I consider myself centre right, because I hold some more right wing views and some more left wing views. I’m not extreme, but I think from comments directed at me from time to time that some posters see me as right of the Reform party. I’m really not.

I am still very worried that Trump could win again. When he separated mothers from their babies at the Mexican border, he showed a total lack of compassion so that was a last straw as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry, to make it clear, what I’m saying is that there is no way this was set up by Trump or his team. Do people seriously think he stood there and said shoot at me - but just graze me?? An inch to the right and he would be dead. And before anyone says that would be a good thing, just be aware that would make you a perpetrator of hate speech, you know the kind of stuff people love to accuse Trump of.

I regret the shooter could not have been incapacitated not shot dead, although clearly he had to be if he was still a risk.

No chance to question him or his motives, which matters a great deal, because whats happening now is that Trump supporters all over S/M blaming a democrat plot.

Yet often in these cases a lone person with seriously disturbed mind.

It certainly wasn’t staged. The SS were informed by the public that there was a gunman in plain view, funny they let him shoot, before they took him out- something sounds fishy to me🤔

There are certainly people claiming they saw the gunman on the roof a couple of minutes before the shooting and tried to alert the security services by pointing and shouting. The authorities will investigate these claims but really, was there any time for the security people to check out the information and react? I very much doubt it.

In any case I’d have thought anyone seeing a gunman on the roof would have assumed it was a police sniper like the one who shot the gunman.

We are not all 'left', some are right-wing, some centre ground, which I am.

I believe he's a dangerous man who will undoubtedly win the presidency, and embark on a programme of revenge against those who have attempted his down fall. He will, and has already, divide the nation. Some of his supporters are extremists - with guns. I think there will be a simmering civil war in America.

In spite of this, I am still glad that he was not killed - no politician should be in fear of being murdered, nor lose their life to some unstable lawless individual with a gun. Regardless.

Since the assassination of Abraham Lincoln there have been other presidents and statesmen killed in the US. It saddens me to know that people have not moved on from thinking that killing someone you oppose is the only way.
