Good news. I like her.šŸ‘šŸ‘

If the conservatives want to be a strong opposition and possibly return to power they need to choose very carefully. I think Patel would be the wrong choice.

I understand that Sunak has said that he would want to stand down as leader before the conference in September, which isn’t unreasonable. He’s conducted himself with dignity, and in fairness to him that should be agreed. That’s why an interim leader is being considered.
The evidence from the polls conducted post election is that the party should not be positioning itself on the right if it wants to win back those who have defected.

Well if she is the chosen one - that should keep the Tory Party at bay for a good long while. Result! What’s not to likešŸ‘

Thanks grammarderby - couldn’t have put it better myselfšŸ‘

On the day of the General Election a thread was started pondering what Labour supporters would find to moan about if they won the election.
Obvious.
They will carry on blaming the Conservatives for every single thing and criticising their every action, as they have done for the last five-plus years. So much easier than facing up to reality and the reasons why objectives cannot be achieved as easily as those not involved imagine.

eazybee what’s this got to do with ā€˜Priti Patel standing for Tory leadership’?confused

Grantanow Wed 17-Jul-24 18:00:28

If the Tory members could elect Truss there's no telling what they would do next.

Cossy Wed 17-Jul-24 20:24:27

Pretti Patel would be a disaster, an insidious, nasty, far right, woman.

Just what the Tories need, not!

Cossy Wed 17-Jul-24 20:28:44

Sorry Priti

I love it when the Tories start fighting like rats in a sack!

There’s no guarantee that a leader chosen this year would be in place by the time of the next election…. So does it matter? Feeling decidedly underwhelmed.

The last government did a fair bit of that - blamed Labour when it suited.

Shouldn't you wait and see before you decide it's "obvious" that's what will happen?

Anyway, about Priti Patel - that's what this thread is about - if you want to have a moan about Labour having a moan, why not go back to the thread about Labour erm, moaning?

Wasn’t she accused of bullying and there were jokes about her competence. When things were difficult it was said ā€œask Pritiā€.

Do watch the Spitting Image portrayals of Pritti Patel on YouTube. Hilarious.

None of them inspire me with any confidence that they are good leaders, Tugenhat was interviewed this morning, genuine enough but not a party leader.

Calendargirl Thu 25-Jul-24 10:50:46

I thought Rishi was staying on until November?

Rekarie Thu 25-Jul-24 10:57:18

Not Priti. Not for me anyway. I've not seen her doing or saying anything remotely insightful

He is. But applications for the job of leader are being taken now. We have a tedious long campaign ahead of us...

ronib Thu 25-Jul-24 11:19:08

MaizieD only Conservative Party members have a vote for a leader. We can chill …. Am reading a wonderful book. ā€˜ Looking for Trouble’ by Virginia Cowles - it’s putting life into perspective..

So Tom Tugendhat,( who I rather respected apart from the fact that he supported Truss when his leadership bid failed confused) is now saying he’d be happy to leave the ECHR’s sad.

varian Thu 25-Jul-24 19:53:55

Tugendhat describes himself as a centrist but only an ultra-right-winger would be crazy enough to advocate the UK leaving the ECHR. He can't be both.

Wyllow3 Thu 25-Jul-24 22:08:47

Yes, Tugendhat previously presented himself as a relative moderate but is now showing true colours demanding leaving the ECHR.

Conservatives: stand up to Reform, fgs
