Biden to stand down?

He does need to go. They won't win with him standing.

Apparently many tech companies, along with Elon Musk, are now supporting Trump with vast sums of money.

No idea what will happen but if Kamala stands I don't hold out much hope for her.

Let’s hope that’ll allow him to step back without losing face.
How effective his replacement will be I have no idea though.

I hope he retires while he still has some dignity. It would be awful to see a man with a strong political past crumble in public.

I agree that Biden has started sounding too old and vague, but as long as Trump is not standing down, I cannot view the disappearance of Biden or anyone else with joy!

In my candid opinion if there is an age limit (and there is) on how old a cardinal may be when voted Pope, why on earth is there no age limits on how old a president or prime minister may be?

Totally agree with you there. There should be some kind of age limit, especially when you are talking about one of the most important roles in the entire world.

It will make very little difference but I hope so as it is unspeakably cruel.

I do so hope that he does stand down. I wish him nothing but the best but this situation surely cannot be allowed to continue.

Cossy Thu 18-Jul-24 14:19:27

It’s an awful and scary situation!

Oh, every nasty trick in the book will be used and $$$$$ spent. Look at the funding Trump has from Elon Musk alone.

"Elon Musk reportedly plans to give $45m a month to pro-Trump Super Pac
Tech billionaire to donate extraordinary monthly sum to group focused on helping Trump win election"

Is the USA already a plutocracy?

sassysaysso Thu 18-Jul-24 14:00:53

Biden should step down but I don't think Harris has the stomach for a fight against Trump. Remember the menace, aggression and dirty tricks he used against Hillary Clinton?

Wise to wait for the end of the Republican Conference to bring to the forefront of news?

I wish the democrats all the very best to keep Trump out.

I'd reserve the word narcissist for Trump, but do think Biden suffers from pride and maybe fear of losses that we all experience getting old maybe particularly men who are used to being very powerful.

Visgir1 Thu 18-Jul-24 13:35:28

I think he should go now and let his Vice President take over.
Give her a chance and hopefully she will get the publicity not Trump?

I heard on the radio yesterday, someone commented, Trump survived a bullet but it got Biden.

mabon1 Thu 18-Jul-24 13:19:20

An old narcissist.

welbeck Thu 18-Jul-24 13:17:00

well his advisors don't seem the best either.
he travelled home to delaware to isolate but neither he not his surrounders were wearing masks.
the optics alone are not being well managed.
i feel sorry for him.
and for america.

I would hope so. I would echo what Whitewavemark2 has said and hope that he would be man enough to put the country before himself. It's become painfully clear that he simply isn't up to the task any more.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 18-Jul-24 13:14:30

Oh I do hope so. Biden has been a good man, but I would hate to think that he would put himself before the country though.

I do hope that they don’t choose Harris though. I think that she is a none starter.

There's a clutch of headlines which hopefully indicate Biden my at last be re considering.

D Telegraph
"Biden’s supporters plot to fast-track nomination
Push to use ‘virtual’ vote to confirm president’s candidacy comes as he mistakes gender of his Secret Service chief"

Guardian "Joe Biden says he'd step down as presidential candidate if a 'medical condition emerged"

CNN "President Joe Biden is reportedly mulling a decision to step aside from the 2024 presidential race as a new poll has deepened a dilemma involving Vice President Kamala Harris.

On Wednesday evening, CNN's Jeff Zeleny reported that a senior Democratic adviser has said that the president, who was diagnosed with COVID earlier in the day, has become "more receptive" to calls for him to step down."

Hoping, as the USA needs a president who will actually engage with the world and the many more moderate voices in the USA.
