There's a clutch of headlines which hopefully indicate Biden my at last be re considering.

D Telegraph
"Biden’s supporters plot to fast-track nomination
Push to use ‘virtual’ vote to confirm president’s candidacy comes as he mistakes gender of his Secret Service chief"

Guardian "Joe Biden says he'd step down as presidential candidate if a 'medical condition emerged"

CNN "President Joe Biden is reportedly mulling a decision to step aside from the 2024 presidential race as a new poll has deepened a dilemma involving Vice President Kamala Harris.

On Wednesday evening, CNN's Jeff Zeleny reported that a senior Democratic adviser has said that the president, who was diagnosed with COVID earlier in the day, has become "more receptive" to calls for him to step down."

Hoping, as the USA needs a president who will actually engage with the world and the many more moderate voices in the USA.

I don’t think it’s a case of ego with Biden. He feels that, had he been nominated instead of Clinton he would have beaten Trump. And he wants 4 more years to continue with the work he has done during his time in office. When you’ve spent most of your life in politics ( unlike Trump who devoted his life to making money and losing it) it’s difficult to walk away from it; he must be so frustrated that his body is letting him down.

You’re being too hard on Jill most wives support their husband in his endeavors, while cautioning them not to overdo it, but there is a limit to how far you can go without damaging the relationship.
Most men don’t take notice when they should, their egos won’t let them, the last week with Covid finally convinced Joe it’s time to bow out, his strong backing of Harris may well result in a quick transition.

What do you mean kiligran? Are you implying some kind of conspiracy?

Biden has not stepped down as President, he’s withdrawn as a candidate in the current campaign. In what way is Jill Biden a disgrace ?

The whole weekend episode is full of lies. His stepping down as President should have been filmed / recorded. Even the letter was read out by someone else. And Jill Biden is a disgrace. Biden should have gone long ago.

I thought Biden has covid? He looked pretty poorly boarding that plane.

I think that Harris is not yet a shoe-in. Which I am pleased about. I just don’t think that she is a very good communicator, but it could be that I haven’t had enough time to listen to her.

So don’t say she is not a good communicator .
She is a good communicator .
She was a prosecutor !!!

I do apologise. I think that she has had very little coverage here - either that or I’ve not been paying attention.

Quite frankly I wish any democratic leader only the best against such a man as Trump.

Would have looked better for Biden if he had retired gracefully a few weeks ago instead of going kicking and screaming being virtually forced out.

I’m not sure. Trumps ramblings in his latest speeches were made when he thought he was fighting against Biden. They have given the Democrats a lot of verbal ammunition to fire at him; he’s been spouting lies about the current presidency and boasting about his appalling record as president. There’s a Republican woman speaking on Sky News at the moment about how many members of the party loathe Trump. She’s describing Trump as a convicted criminal and thinks Harris is a danger to him.

NotSpaghetti Sun 21-Jul-24 21:24:15

Well I think with a "strong white male" and a following breeze Harris may do it.
🤞

NotSpaghetti Sun 21-Jul-24 21:08:15

Syracute you seemed to be quite negative about Trump and his way of doing things (!) and aware of the Biden administration's achievements so I was surprised when you said Biden in response to "who would be worse".

That was all.

And has endorsed Harris

Jaxjacky Sun 21-Jul-24 19:55:21

Grammaretto I have my fingers crossed 🤞🤞and toes!

rafichagran Sun 21-Jul-24 19:04:15

Pleased about that. We'll done Joe Biden.

Grammaretto Sun 21-Jul-24 18:56:53

Well it looks as though Biden is to stand down.
Is it too late to keep Trump out?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 21-Jul-24 18:55:11

Well done Mr Biden

Syracute did you actually mean to say Trump would be worse?

I think maybe you mis-typed?

Did you mean me or Wyllow ?

If you look at your post of 15:40:24 you say Biden having quoted
Fudgemonkey's post
I can't decide who would be worse...Biden or Trump 🤔

winterwhite Sun 21-Jul-24 17:50:37

Very good piece in the Observer today arguing that even as late in the day as this if the Democrats really pull together behind a new young energetic candidate (i.e not KH) they could defeat Trump. And that once the search for a new candidate is on it will re-energise them

I'd have agreed with that 6 or maybe even 3 months ago but now it seems impossible. Understand that KH has been a shallow disappointment but even so. The Observer also showed a photo from the Washington Post of her opening an ice cream parlour yesterday. Jeepers if that's the best her party can line up for her to do...

Actually “The Hill Billy Elegy” was a best seller in 2016. I’d forgotten I’d got it on my kindle from Amazon. Just rereading it. It is a page turner. Vance is a very good communicator. Still. despite really poor start in life he got to Yale university.
Now, Trump’s running mate.

Well it is no longer well regarded as it is an insult to those in Appalachia and is based on a lot of falsehoods . He was fitting a narrative for political aspirations . He did not grow up in Appalachia but a suburb in Ohio . The book is being roundly condemned . So if you read the book, you need to read why it’s now very controversial . It’s a good story of which much is fiction .

Great to hear form somebody who knows what they are talking about.

A good read and a good listen but utterly fictional.

I wonder what is wrong with women that they feel they need to be impressed by a guy in a suit, or unclipping a pen, or on a podium or whatever they offer.

Grantanow Sun 21-Jul-24 17:24:38

Trump would be a disaster for the USA and the world. Boden might beat him but a younger, fresher candidate might have more chance. It's up to the Democrats.

Yes, in the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, not close enough to US politics too ?? president, but Biden should step down.

Your comment is confusing . I am a US citizen , grew up in the USA and was educated there . I know how the politics work. Traitor Trump is threatening to upend the checks and balances of the US government . He has an affinity for dictators like Orban , has even admired Putin .
You have not come up with any concrete policies of his nor commented on Project 2025 .
So many Trump supporters here have no idea of his specific policies of his . Ignore his dangerous populist commentary .
His latest speech was rife with lies and contradictory statements to his RNC statements .
He said no more discussion of my shooting , just this one time . Guess what he did at the latest Trump rally : talk about the shooting .
He said he wanted no more aggressive speech
Against his opponents . He immediately started attacking his opponents with childish speech . Crazy Nancy , Crazy Kamala .
He is a hypocrite and a liar . He is not to be trusted !
I do trust Biden and his team .
They will not destroy democracy .

Sorry, assumed my posts on the last page made my view clear. Yes, Project25 and policies generally especially health, education and welfare.
