Back to Farage's son who has been 'debanked' if he truly has. He has got German nationality, and possibly Irish. Key issue is, where does he live? Can anyone find out? And who does he bank with?

I know one of his sons did a first and second degree at Exeter Uni. Try Hong Kong for where he lives.

Could I possibly care less about someone with German nationality (and/or Irish- both EU countries) resident in Hong Kong who has possibly been debanked by a bank (Wise) nobody has heard of - a specialist bank for making international money transfers.

What possible relevance does it have to any of us?

You are a woman after my own heart
I too don’t agree with any MP being allowed to purchase a second home in their constituency, or in London, at the taxpayers expense. When they lose their seat, they can keep the property too.
I agree with you, and have long thought, that the system you suggest, of having flats available for MPs to stay in, would be a much better idea, and ultimately save a lot of money. With so many new MPs in our new Parliament, just think how much all those second homes are going to cost us!

I believe the system of flats that you suggest, is exactly what is done in Denmark.

In my youth Frinton was famous for not allowing any fish and chip shops 😀

Frinton Cricket Club, too, eh? How very 'man of the people'...

(further apologies)

I expect a pint of ale is cheaper than in the pubs.

If British people can’t have a British bank account because they live abroad, then they need to do what my daughter did when she moved to New Zealand - open a bank account in the country they live in.

Easier said than done. If you work there, that is fine. But in many cases, those people are on UK pensions which have to be paid into UK Bank Account before transfer, and losing UK Bank account becomes a real nightmare.

Brits in EU risk losing UK bank accounts

Brits in EU risk losing UK bank accounts. Tens of thousands of British expats who live in Europe run the risk of having their UK bank accounts closed 'in weeks' due to post-Brexit rules.

Lloyds, Barclays and Coutts are among the UK banks starting to give notice to expats to warn their accounts will be closed at 11pm on December 31.

The government has not yet negotiated post-Brexit banking rules so the current regulations will not apply. Stalemate between Britain and Europe in ongoing talks over Brexit has left it a "bureaucratic nightmare" for UK banks to provide services to Brits living abroad.

Banks are making their own decisions as to which EU countries to pull out of and which to continue operating in.

Lloyds, Barclays and Coutts are among the UK banks starting to give notice to expats to warn their accounts will be closed at 11pm on December 31.^

Don't Barclays and Lloyd's advertise themselves as a global banks operating in many countries? That seems to be a nonsense if people have to close their accounts in the UK.
Very unhelpful.

I don't know about Coutts.

Frinton not Fronton 😂

Fronton is quite a nice wine - just north of Toulouse

I'm guessing a red from down there? 🍷

Can you give evidence of this or is it “Chinese whispers”

Asked the same thing on page 1.

And we didn’t get an answer! grin

Will briefly derail further. Ah, Fronton, as far away from Jaywalk as possible.

"Frinton-on-Sea

With a reputation as an exclusive resort, Frinton retains an atmosphere of the 1920/30's. Tree-lined avenues sweep down to the elegant Esplanade and cliff-top greensward, with its colourful Victorian-style beach huts. The sandy beach is quiet and secluded.

The sea front is still lined by many Victorian style beach huts, which is reminiscent of the days when Frinton-on-Sea was the favourite retreat for the aristocracy and even Royalty"

I too think Mr Farage should not be on GB news now, but in his constituency working hard, or on the train for the relatively short journey into Westminster.

According to one of my close friends, Farage is seeking a rental home in Frinton (no doubt fully funded) and has already been accepted into Frinton Cricket Club, just behind her home, which was one of her fav haunts!

Interesting for those who know the history of the Essex coastal towns that he should choose Frinton 😂😂

What's wrong with Clacton, there must be plenty of rental properties available there?

Wyllow3 Thu 25-Jul-24 20:46:25

Indeed, lots of "if's" there.

We have no evidence, that he has even been "De-banked". it's the sort of news, that would be all over the internet, in MSM or accessible SM.

Dinahmo. It’s from 27 November 2020 - here:

www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2020/11/eu-bank-accounts-closed-brexit/

Says:

Why are accounts being closed?

Most UK banks are closing accounts now because of how Brexit is likely to change so-called 'passporting' arrangements at the end of this year. Passporting is when banks are allowed to provide services to customers in other states in the EEA without having to get direct authorisation in those states.

Current passporting rules are set to end on Thursday 31 December unless a new agreement is reached with the EU. What that means in practice is that, as things stand, from Friday 1 January each UK bank will need to have separate authorisation in every EEA country it wants to operate in – and different countries will have their own laws and regulations which could affect banks' ability to trade there.

More on the link. I don't know what happened after 31 December 2020.

Thank you Merion, as said, I quoted from MoneySavingsExperts- so this is not 'anecdotal' evidence. And the article clearly mentions that this is a direct consequence of Brexit- so it is very relevant.

How lovely for the welcome committee to be present (and not correct) lol.

The ONLY place this features online is on Gransnet- so it sounds a lot like fake news.
So let’s have a bunfight about BREXIT anyway- why not? 🤣🤣🤣

I am so pleased for them We have not encountered problems, and neither have you. Which does not means thousands have. Why even begin to deny this?

When quoting anecdotal evidence one persons anecdotes are presumably as valid as another’s?
Perhaps personal experience however trumps thousands of unknown quantities?
