“ I like New York in spring how about you”😊

Sadly no, I looked that one up as I didn’t know it, but the nearest lyrics are
Holding hands in the movie show
When all the lights are low may not be new
But I like it, how about you?
I’ve added a new song to my knowledge though now, so thanks!

Where’s Frinton-on-Sea. Here 😁

Thank you petra

It looks rather nice in photos, lots of small shops, beach huts and tea rooms.
Not a place for teenagers!

Is it from Babes on Broadway?

I did know the song (showing my age now).

Is this in any way true?

One son is 33, the other 35.
They cannot be held responsible for anything their father does.

Casdon Fri 26-Jul-24 09:19:04

Yes, it is - I just looked it up on Wikipedia, which says
‘The lyrics of the song are often changed depending on the recording artist. In its original form it is a humorous romantic duet, though rarely recorded that way. Certain lyrics, especially those with topical references, are often changed based on the time of the performance's release’
I’d looked it up on ApplePlay, which gives you the official version, but Nicenanny3 could well have been referring to a version with altered lyrics. Mystery could be solved, thanks, unless she comes back to say it’s a different song she was referring to.

Casdon Fri 26-Jul-24 09:20:27

Cross posts Whitewavemark, thanks both - I’ll have that song going round in my head all day now.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 26-Jul-24 09:27:01

Ask Alexa to play Ella Fitzgerald singing it - I looooove her music.

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 26-Jul-24 09:29:55

I love Ella Fitzgerald. I think that her music should be available on the National Health to lower blood pressure.

Nigel said, on GB news that his son had been contacted and asked if he was Nigel Farage’s son, when he said he was he was debanked….🤔

In my youth Frinton was famous for not allowing any fish and chip shops 😀

Frinton Cricket Club, too, eh? How very 'man of the people'...

(further apologies)

No, I should be apologising!! We are off to Frinton-on-Sea tonight for dinner and to see one of their Summer Rep Plays!

Hopefully we won’t bump into you-know-who

grin

The salient point about Frinton is that it was a very fashionable and exclusive resort in the mid 20th century. It held itself aloof from its vulgar neighbours, Clacton and Walton. It clung to its gentility even as it lost its cachet😆

The only road into Frinton was crossed by the railway, which contributed to its air of exclusivity. The level crossing gates were known locally as 'the Golden Gates' 😆

It's an ironic choice of dwelling place for our 'man of the people'.

It is a nice place, Cal. I haven't been there for decades, but I'm sure it hasn't changed much.

Cossy what a surprise if you find yourself in the seat next to you-know-who at the theatre.Whatever would you do?

If Frinton on Sea is populated by older people, then since NF is 61 it will probably suit him now and in the future.

Cossy Fri 26-Jul-24 10:45:54

Found this on internet, amp.scmp.com/magazines/style/entertainment/article/3265805/who-are-nigel-farages-4-low-key-children-donald-trump-supporter-and-reform-leader-has-2-daughters,

not sure how accurate it is.

I’m not sure what I’d do hahaha

I posted a link to the TV show at the top of page 4 where Farage claims his son has been debanked.

There is something odd about the story he tells - that the exchange took place by email for a start. If you received an email from a bank asking you if you were related to someone what would you immediately think? I'd think scam. If your bank then asked you to send them three months statements what would you think? I’d think scam.

This story has gained no traction in the wider media including social media other than here. Why is that? Something about this doesn’t add up but anyway ...

... a correction to what I said upthread - Farage referred to Wise as a bank and so did I. When you look at the Wise website it talks about opening an account so it's an esay assumption to make - but when you dig a bit deeper you find that it isn’t a bank.

Quoting from:

wise.com/gb/blog/is-wise-safe-uk

Is Wise FSCS protected?

One important thing to note is that Wise is not a bank, and as such is not part of the FSCS (Financial Services Compensation Scheme). Instead, as part of the conditions of maintaining a financial service licence in the UK and internationally, Wise must follow a different set of rules to keep customer money safe, known as safeguarding. We’ll explore how that works and how it’s different to FSCS in a moment.

How does Wise keep my money safe?

Wise is not covered by FSCS protection, but instead, as an Electronic Money Institution in the UK, Wise protects customer funds through safeguarding.

Technically, or at least semantically, I don't think you can be debanked from an institution that isn't a bank - which may explain why this is a non-story.

Wyllow3 Fri 26-Jul-24 11:00:37

I can see no other reason for Farage alluding to it except to remind viewers of what happened to him.

As for why its gone dead as a story its possible his son doesn't want it "out there", but to be private:

and it was never a debanking anyway but a post Brexit phenomena which Farage is hardly likely to want to be made a fuss of.

Fleurpepper Fri 26-Jul-24 13:26:26

Did anyone hear the joke: Harwich for the continent, Frinton for the incontinent?

We used to go to Frinton on holiday when kids were young- as one of our colleagues had a nice house there, and a beach house. But yes, full of old people.

So, looks like his son was debanked for living abroad, and not even in EU. So Maw is right- nought to do with Brexit- for once ;)

Nope, still find it all totally irrelevant and uninteresting.

So disinterested that you have posted how many times…………

Is it because it's just rather ludicrous and unimportant?

Or because I keep wondering how one of the Farage family has been debunked.

Must go to Specsavers.

Perhaps. Let’s wait and see.

No, I think the above is closer to “Why”.

(PS WWMK2 - who’s counting? Thread police?)

Not at all but intrigued. To announce after 5 pages to which you have contributed to suddenly announce that you find it irrelevant and disinteresting seems weird to say the less.
