A disporportionate reaction it seems. It makes me wonder what happens when there are no filming taking place.

Callistemon213 Thu 25-Jul-24 14:38:55

Sorry, that was to Urmstongran

His colleagues had been attacked by these yobs. They were in a dangerous situation. I don't condone the kick to the head but it's understandable in the circumstances. None of us know how we would react in a brutal attack.

I was calling DH because he'd gone back only about 10 feet to explain to the rest of our group why there was a delay. DH (of course) carried on "Just a minute, dear", and the immigration officer went for his gun and yelled at me to get him!

Dear sweet British men abroad hey?

😁
If only they'd listen to their OH!

However, we only saw a section of the incident? All police at the airport are armed and highly trained to deal with this situation, let’s bear in mind they are also protecting us.. this could potentially be a suicide vest/bomb attack.

To make general points not on this incident specifically - an apparently provocative short clip is released showing a small part of what could be a very complex incident.

In any investigation, the investigating authorities won't be relying on just any further media clips,

but also interviews with eye witnesses and other personal relevant to the circumstances around the incident.

No onslaught from me Sago my Muslim friends would agree with your post.

Same here Gg13 (family in my case)

I've just read the I player report, which doesn't dodge any issues, but gives a good account and timeline of events and reactions to them, not speculative nor our dramatic..

But we are not highly trained police officers.

Plus police body cams.

Whilst I agree the footage looks brutal, the man on the floor wasn’t cuffed and he was lifting his head and moving around after the kick and stamp by the officer so clearly it looked worse than it was.

Police brutality has no place in our police force but we only saw the end of the incident. Three officers were quite badly injured and the female officer was smashed in the face and received a broken nose before this footage was taken.

As for the mob surrounding the police station afterwards issuing their demands…..

Jaberwok Thu 25-Jul-24 16:01:25

Police Service?! Are The Armed Forces now The Armed Services??!!

HousePlantQueen Thu 25-Jul-24 16:15:58

I agree with Andy Burnham and Urmstongran, an investigation needs to be instigated without press interference and rent a quote commentators stirring it, often for their own political ends.

Burnham’s comments came as Akhmed Yakoob, a lawyer who ran as an independent at the election on a pro-Gaza ticket, released a video of himself with two of the men arrested at Manchester Airport.

He said he had helped them make a formal complaint of assault and wounding against the police and accompanied the video with the caption “Justice will be served”.

Rephrase it, so we can all benefit?

As far as I am concerned, the police are fighting evil with one arm tied behind their backs. I wonder what I would have done if one of these men had broken my partner's nose. The policeman was angry and I suppose sick and tired of what is happening in the world today and just lost it. Criminals don't care about the police anymore, they have no respect for them and it is about time that they were taught a lesson they will never forget.

This would never have happened if those idiots hadn't been causing a fuss but it did and I hope they lock them up for a long time for assaulting police officers. It is about time that criminals were afraid of the police and afraid of going to jail.

Let us have a proper justice system instead of criminals being arrested and then having their hands slapped and released. I bet the police are sick of putting their lives on the line only for the criminals to be released on bail. I hope this idiot learns his lesson and the police officer is not charged with anything.

I didn’t see anything racist or inflammatory in my post.

In this country we are not able to criticise certain members. of our population.

Urmstongran

Himself has just said “if anything goes off around me like that I want a robust response like the Guardia Civil in Spain”.

I suppose that’s a Police Force. We, in the UK have a Police Service. Altogether different.

Is that correct? I would always use the words Police Force, as in “my nephew is in the Police Force”

I have just seen that video.

Have the men been charged with assaulting three police officers?

Doesn’t appear so…

petra Thu 25-Jul-24 17:26:17

Callistmon
We had a gun pulled on us on the Romania /Bulgaria border.
Then in Bulgaria we accidentally cut the burglar alarm.
Before we knew it 4 police officers were running into our garden with guns drawn.
It’s not funny is it 😱

Whitewavemark2 Thu 25-Jul-24 17:42:06

Imo poor training and poor discipline.

maddyone Thu 25-Jul-24 17:44:10

I think it completely wrong if the men who caused the problem in the first place, and assaulted three police officers and broke a female police officer’s nose, get away without charges because one policeman, who is already being disciplined, was too eager in his restraint response.

That’s not justice.
