I’m fuming about this, allegedly the English Defence League, attacking a local mosque, police attacked and vehicle set on fire. The police have reiterated ‘ the person under arrest was born in the UK’ and to ignore misinformation on social media.
Those poor residents grieving and in shock without the EDL basically stirring.

So - calling someone scum or filth is ok?
If so, why are terms like spaffing up the wall not acceptable?

Just curious.

Callistemon213 Thu 08-Aug-24 09:23:35

a bunch of elderly snobs

And who would they be, exactly?

Callistemon213 Thu 08-Aug-24 09:22:22

She doesn't need voice coaching, as I said. Her voice is fine.

However, is it snobby to not want one of our top politicians in charge of the country to use more npmoderstd language?
It doesn't matter the background, Boris was just as bad and came in for a lot of criticism.

But that was ok apparently, amongst those who defend Angela Rayner on here.

Neither is acceptable.

You’re right about MT as I read that all she needed was her voice bringing down a notch or two, modulation.
I think AR will be more careful with language now that Labour are actually in power.

I don't think Rayner needs to be wasting time and money to satisfy a bunch of elderly snobs. She has more important things to think about.

I always thought that the voice coached Thatcher sounded artificial and thoroughly insincere.

I'm sure she will.

I often wonder if HM Queen Elizabeth also had voice modulation training?

Yes, your post could get lost on here Buttonjugs

Maybe start a thread under Health? Or Ask a Gran?

Cadeby Thu 08-Aug-24 08:32:18

Buttonjugs, maybe do a different thread. You will hopefully be shown some kindness , away from this political nonsense and( in some cases) hatred.

We also had spelling tests at my primary school but not typing lessons 😁

Ha ha just seen St Angela of Rayner talking about the riots and how thuggery is not the way this country behaves. 🤣Does she not realise she sounded just like a prize thug when she was spitting out words like scum, filth etc just a short while ago.
She has even tried to soften her voice.

She probably went to the Thatcher School of Elocution.

To be fair, Margaret Thsther would not have used the kind f rhetoric Angela Rayner has been known to use and probably would have been horrified by it.
As a grocer's daughter she knew how to deal with the public politely, she went to a girls' grammar school (strict in those days if mine was anything to go by, an we had elocution lessons) and to Oxford, and worked as a barrister.

She didn't need elocution lessons, she had voice coaching to modulate her speaking voice, a different thing altogether.

I don't know what Angela Rayner needs - her speaking voice is fine, it's some of her language which is a problem but I'm sure she knows that herself.

Oh give it a rest.

I fear that is unlikely to happen any time soon. Best to have a little chuckle and move right along.

Buttonjugs Sadly, it is not your son but his addiction that means he behaves like this, but more than you need right now.

In the meanwhile, it looks as if whatever your medical problem it has been caught early. All I can do is just offer flowers flowers

Just wondering if anyone else has had a mammogram recall recently and had to undergo a cone biopsy. I am feeling a bit fragile because that’s what happened today. I went to the clinic hoping that the ultrasound would be ‘nothing to report’ but there was a tiny lump. In the meantime I am dealing with an adult son with a cocaine addiction. He is moving to live with another son who lives near Edinburgh. At first I was upset but he recently manipulated me into taking out a £1000 loan because he owned money to the dealer, his ex wife and his bar tab. The very same night he said he was going to the shop and didn’t come back until the early hours. Now I feel guilty because I want him to go. My youngest is autistic and the situation has made him anxious and depressed. Sorry for the pity party but I needed to vent.

It would appear that there has been no or very little trouble in our area. Thank goodness.
It seems false information was published to cause maximum fear and disruption.
In my opinion this is despicable and unforgivable.

Hmm ... not so sure it was deliberately false information. Maybe they're a bit disillusioned. It seems TR is on the run somewhere and he and Andrew Tate have turned on Farage for blaming them.

I think the charging of the social media keyboard warrriors will in the long term be the most significant lesson learned for the public. Unfortunately there will always be thugs out there.

They will now always be known by that.

I read that it's become the Elon Defence League.

Wyllow3 Wed 07-Aug-24 23:01:57

Can we arrest Elon Musk too please?

"I think it was the fear of imprisonment that diffused everything. The speed at which people have been arrested and prosecuted has been unprecedented."

It has..if this works out, it's a triumph of planning and action taken.

Even more so if Yaxley Lennon is arrested! Maybe this is what happens when you have a PM who adheres to and understands the law?
