Riots in Southport

I’m fuming about this, allegedly the English Defence League, attacking a local mosque, police attacked and vehicle set on fire. The police have reiterated ‘ the person under arrest was born in the UK’ and to ignore misinformation on social media.
Those poor residents grieving and in shock without the EDL basically stirring.

Ridley Tue 30-Jul-24 21:59:12

I agree. It’s absolutely disgusting. The poor police having to deal with such morons

Grandmadinosaur Tue 30-Jul-24 22:00:40

I feel exactly the same Jaxjacky the poor people of Southport have suffered enough. The residents of the street the riots are on must be terrified in there own homes. Makes me so angry.

Bobbysgirl19 Tue 30-Jul-24 22:01:19

Just been watching it. It’s truly awful!

nanaK54 Tue 30-Jul-24 22:08:01

Agreed.
These awful people are using the death of three beautiful girls as an excuse to riot outside a mosque. Furthermore they are attacking the same brave police officers who ran to the aid of all those caught up in that dreadful incident.
'thick as mince' sums them up for me.
Social media has a lot to answer for here, so much misinformation has been shared.

Poor MrJ, sitting here quietly endured my ranting, but it makes me so very cross and sad at the same time.

I'm beyond angry.Without too much detail member of our family is amongst this as an emergency services worker. How utterly disrespectful to a grieving community and those who risked their own lives to respond yesterday. They are just mindless thugs. In other countries the water canons and tear gas would be deployed and tbh tonight i wish they could do that.I'm not sure I will sleep tonight. The poor people of Southport.angry

growstuff Tue 30-Jul-24 22:34:19

"Thick as mince" is too kind as far as I'm concerned.

These are the same people who just a few days ago were blaming Muslims for destroying a police car in Leeds - yet here they are, doing exactly the same. What a load of hypocritical lowlife!

Even if the murdered in Southport is Muslim (and his identity hasn't officially been released), the murders have nothing to do with the people who attend that mosque.

Hopefully, the people who spread fake news from dodgy American websites will think twice next time something pops up in their inbox to support their agenda.

So the right-wing idiots attack a mosque, when the suspect is said to be from a Christian family.......

Yep - all makes perfect sense (not)

Wyllow3 Tue 30-Jul-24 22:39:32

We cannot let the English Defence League thugs take over a tragedy and a peaceful vigil for and by the families, friends and neighbours of murdered children, on the basis of what is speculation based on inaccurate social media memes.

Much thicker than mince! And so are posts made by people who link this attack with the Ariane Grande concert, when none of us knows who the murderer is.

I did wonder why we got rid of the water cannon to nearby countries not afraid to use them.

Rubber bullets, tear gas?
That might be the only language these mindless thugs understand.

Well said.

Might it be an idea to wait. In the same way it was good idea to wait following the first incident.

If course it would be a good idea, but some people don't seem interested in facts.

Galaxy Tue 30-Jul-24 22:58:25

We dont know many facts about the current situation growstuff.

grumppa Tue 30-Jul-24 22:59:47

The attack on the children at that party, Rondoallaturc, is so inconceivable that it is beyond comprehension that anyone, of any race, nationality, colour, age, sex, gender, or faith should even contemplate it. To use it as grounds for attacking anything or anyone until the full facts are known is totally irresponsible, as is making insinuations about UK immigrants.

Hard common sense. I applaud you.

I notice the thread about the murders yesterday has disappeared. Is this because of all the wild speculation being posted about the identity of the perpetrator?

That's what GNHQ posted when it was deleted its official reasons.
