More knife crime in Southend on sea

Daughter with grandkids in Southend has told me that Southend is in police lockdown due to gangs from east London arriving in large numbers yesterday and fighting with machetes and swords as well as knives in the high street and seafront, in broad daylight from 4pm onwards when families with children were out enjoying the weather.
They were luckily in the back garden and just saw police helicopters overhead but a friend with her children had gone to the seafront and witnessed youths brandishing machetes near Adventure Playground a place frequented by families with children which was of course heaving, she ran into a pub with the kids where the landlord ushered people inside and locked the doors.
The children were horrified and one of them had to sleep in the parents bed last night.
I have no words to describe how I feel right now……

I agree with that, which is why I also dont want riots when social workers implement safeguarding procedures. I dont like that either.

It's a free country isn't it and we still have free speech, what's the problem. Err because you don't like him perhaps.

He is an MP and has responsibility not to pour oil on troubled fires - or even stoke them in the first place.

Those of us who actually like the UK want a stable government and democracy, not the Wild West.

Our country is being distroyed what he's saying is the truth. You think it's OK and normal for their to be machete fights in the streets. 🙈🙉🙊

This can't be brushed under the carpet because some don't like talking about it.

He’s not our MP and doesn’t need to wade in! He has enough to do in his own constituency, both Southend East and West MPs have spoken up and Southend councillors.

Cadeby Wed 31-Jul-24 17:54:03

Talk away.

Nicenanny3 Wed 31-Jul-24 17:52:43

There not their. Typo

Essex no doubt, like all areas of the UK has it’s own hooigans and thugs.

Indeed it does!

*Oreo*, I was a very young Head. Primary age children. 1990s - noughties, (the decade not the children!).
I loved every minute. After 15 years, I followed my dream to buy a château in France. Kind of glad I no longer have that responsibility.

That sounds fabulous! Do you do B&B?

That’s good GrannyGravy hope this will be a short lived thing, hot weather madness.
Talking to Mum about it today and she said she remembers that in the 60’s and early 70’s there were lots of face offs in seaside places, Brighton particularly.

I live close to Southend

My AC and GC live even closer.

The CCTV is on the local MP’s X if anyone wishes to view it.

It is not comparable to the riots in Southport.

Apologies if I sound like a Headmistress, (I am not by the way)

Are you for real? Every bit as bad, “ machetes” FGS, want 10 yrs for carrying those

There were 100’s of thugs bussed into Southport with the aim of attacking the police and the local mosque. This was a riot, and the police are expecting more this evening.

Last night in Southend there were eight louts armed with machetes fighting each other.

Throw the book at them for affray and carrying offensive weapons.

This was not a riot, they were contained quickly, no member of the police or public were injured.

This incident, serious as it was is not comparable to the organised riot in Southport.

What I often worry about is that instead of piling in to help, people just whip out a phone as if it’s entertainment.
The upside tho is that they can get evidence that way.

^People walking past, shopping. That tells me we seem to be becoming immune to the daily thuggery that is happening on some of our streets^.
I do hope that as a nation, we never become desensitised to bad behaviour of this sort, or any sort really.
I am a Headmistress by the way!!

Are you still, or retired? Either way, respect!

Oreo Brighton was a tinderbox in the 60 s I must be your mums age I remember it all very well and the mods and rockers going at each other too, then there was the awful football riots was that 70 s ? Can’t remember it’s all so many decades gone by

She’s 83😃
It’s amazing how much she remembers if I mention something that happened way back when.If I mention the football riots from the 70’s I may never get away, as footie hooligans were one of her pet hates. We lived very near the Spurs ground and she would sniff even at raised voices.🤣

Police Dispersal Orders are issued all the time, all over England, I’m not sure about elsewhere.
The police did not ‘just look on’.
Is there some sort of hysteria affecting certain members of GN so they can’t fact check before posting?
Thank you GG13.

That's funny, but the clip I saw which I have just watched again, on X, clearly shows the Police having to stand there unable to affect anything, probably because they had no tasers and waiting for backup - who can blame them with thugs waiving machetes around, I certainly do not. But dont try to deflect from the actual event, parents having to rush their children into a pub and lock the door behind them must have been incredibly frightening. Seemingly trying to downplay 'events' like this because PDO's are issued all the time serves no-one and certainly does not excuse what happened.

No one is excusing what happened!

As you appear to have viewed at least one of the CCTV footage you will also have seen people walking past on the other side of the road, people shopping, etc,

No mass hysteria, no riots.
