The former BBC Newscaster and anchor man for so many State occasions is appearing in court today with having indecent images of children.

Over 30 images in all, with three being of the most serious level…

I make of it that on any issue I listen to Owen Jones then do the opposite. It serves me well.

Kate1949 Fri 02-Aug-24 16:09:16

A vulnerable man?!!!

He always seemed pretty emotionless to me.

That's fine for a newsreader. They are there to read the news not to show emotion. Sophie Raworth doesn't show emotion, Clive Myrie also good. Fiona Bruce tends to put emotional emphasis on her delivery which really annoys me. She's not an actress, she's a newsreader and I don't want a dramatic story.

How they hold it together when reading difficult news is amazing. I know they have seen the news previously so it's not a shock as it may be to us, the viewer, but a calm delivery is what we need a time of crisis.

Anniebach Fri 02-Aug-24 16:20:16

Several in the BBC who worked with HE have spoken of their
shock, Nicholas Witchell spoke of their friendship,

Kate1949 Fri 02-Aug-24 16:21:13

Yes I suppose it's their job to be emotionless. He just seemed a bit robotic to me. A lot of people liked and trusted him so what do I know?

Callistemon213 Fri 02-Aug-24 16:21:38

Not emotionless.
Calm, reassuring.

Anniebach Fri 02-Aug-24 16:26:36

We certainly do not want anyone emotional reading the news

I can understand them being shocked if they had no idea, but I'd hope they are also disgusted, dismayed and repulsed. Countless children suffering abominable abuse, past present and future, to satisfy the perverted wants of men like HE.

Anniebach Fri 02-Aug-24 16:38:07

Unnecessary,

Rosie51 Fri 02-Aug-24 16:44:38

Anniebach

Unnecessary,

What's unnecessary? You don't find the sexual abuse of children for the wants of perverted men disgusting or repulsive?
Nicholas Witchell doesn't have to shout it from the rooftops but I'd hope that's how he's feeling.

Callistemon213 Fri 02-Aug-24 17:09:17

Such men can be very clever.

They can dissociate the persona they present to the world from their perverted secret life.

Anniebach Fri 02-Aug-24 17:36:26

Who would think such crimes were carried out by a friend, well, unless they are tuned into haircuts

Of course nobody expects that one of their friends would be guilty of such crimes, but on finding out, surely they would feel the emotions I described? I thought we'd established the haircut is irrelevant to the crimes he committed. no need to flog a dead horse.

Kate1949 Fri 02-Aug-24 17:44:32

Annie. You appear to not want anything detrimental said about HE. Is it because you have met him and he seemed nice?

I think that’s the nub of it. It’s easy to be wise after the event, to say there were rumours, to say somebody had funny eyes, or whatever. The truth is that people who have bad secrets are very often masters of disguise.

Surely emotions are private

Kate1949 Fri 02-Aug-24 18:05:08

Of course emotions are not private. We show emotion all the time as human beings.

Cadeby Fri 02-Aug-24 18:39:41

Sad for those children who are being abused, the family of Huw, the rest of us brought up to respect such characters.
those of us who wrestle day in day out with mental health issues.
And to you Annie, a person proud of your heritage, so sorry.

BlueBelle Fri 02-Aug-24 18:53:45

Annie there are bad people or people using poor judgements in all walks of life and all countries I understand your difficulty in seeing Huw Edwards as an abusive male hes from your area you ve met him and found him charming but Annie that doesn’t make him innocent
I am sorry that you are having to see this and I understand your difficulties but what has happened has happened and we can’t undo his bad behaviour

Kate1949 Fri 02-Aug-24 18:55:50

Yes it's sad and disappointing when someone went thought was ok turns out not to be.

Kate1949 Fri 02-Aug-24 18:56:07

we thought

Anniebach Fri 02-Aug-24 19:03:39

Thank you Cadeby

BlueBell I have no problem with accepting his guilt and the fact that I have always liked him hasn’t diminished, he is a very nice person and I have enjoyed his works. Yes I have met him several times over a long period of time, I met his father Hywel
when he so wanted to be a Plaid Cymru candidate.
Thank you

Rosie51 Fri 02-Aug-24 19:03:40

Anniebach Surely emotions are private you said several had spoken of their shock at the revelations, surely shock is an emotion? I never suggested NW should shout from the rooftops any other emotions such as dismay, disgust and repulsion, I merely said I hoped he felt those too.

Anniebach Fri 02-Aug-24 19:13:36

Yes emotions are private, we choose to share them or not Rosie
