The former BBC Newscaster and anchor man for so many State occasions is appearing in court today with having indecent images of children.

Over 30 images in all, with three being of the most serious level…

The Sun and The Mail , no thank you

here is an resume of the same material;

Anniebach, why don't you listen to the piece, and then make your mind up.
it was on the bbc, radio 4; the media show is a respected programme.
i can understand your feeling about the sun historically, but this present editor wasn't there in the bad old days.
her narrative gives quite an insight into the huw edwards affair. no pun intended.

Anniebach Fri 09-Aug-24 18:07:31

I expect it was terrified

JenniferEccles Fri 09-Aug-24 16:23:15

I think the Sun should be congratulated for having the courage to reveal what they had discovered about Edwards, knowing that’s the story would produce howls of outrage from certain quarters.

Detail of how much requested and moving forward as regards procedures:

"“BBC asks Huw Edwards to return more than £200,000”

Giving the money back?
He probably will, and I hope he does.
The BBC has to take some responsibility once they knew he had admitted guilt.
When we’ve dealt with suspension, the pay remains until the guilt is established.

Anniebach Fri 09-Aug-24 14:14:20

Can the Sun be believed ?

Joseann Fri 09-Aug-24 13:58:51

I was wondering, surely other workers at the BBC would have known things weren't quite right? Is there such a toxic culture that the organisation doesn't listen to juniors but favours its "celebrity" status staff who can do no wrong?

i happened to hear the editor of the Sun on the Media Show last night, and listened to it in the light of this discussion.
it is well worth listening to; Anniebach ?

The editor of the sun newspaper? never read the sun so pass

welbeck Fri 09-Aug-24 13:49:28

i hope the young men he trifled with can rebuild their lives.

Anniebach Fri 09-Aug-24 13:48:05

If a few people here said they had a feeling something wasn’t
quite right about him, suggests his wife surely would have known

Casdon Fri 09-Aug-24 13:45:54

His wife is a TV producer, so there’s no escape for her in work either, the poor woman. I hope they can rebuild their lives.

It appears from the BBC news that the BBC are now asking HE for the money back that he received whilst he was suspended. I wonder if he’ll give it back?

JenniferEccles Fri 09-Aug-24 13:30:37

I know I said he fooled everyone but I remember a few people on here said they had a feeling something wasn’t quite right about him.

His wife left him a while back, and his grown up children must be in a turmoil, as well as his mother.

Unconditional love eh? Is there such a thing? I guess none of us can answer that unless we have been in a situation to test it.

JaneJudge Fri 09-Aug-24 13:25:01

I feel for his family too

Casdon Fri 09-Aug-24 13:21:40

Particularly if it is your husband I would imagine. Somebody you thought you knew better than anybody else. His wife must be absolutely devastated.

Doodledog Fri 09-Aug-24 13:19:31

Yes, the families and friends of people like this must suffer dreadfully. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to come to terms with the fact that a loved one is not only capable of this, but is still willing to offend knowing the impact it will have on you and your children if caught, without also having people speculating on how much you knew and whispering about you in the street.

JenniferEccles Fri 09-Aug-24 13:04:36

It’s been announced that Edwards has to repay the BBC more than £200,000 he earned after being arrested in November. Apparently the BBC knew then that he had been accused of possessing the most serious category of indecent images of children.

What a horrible sleazy specimen he has turned out to be, yet he fooled us all with his professional, respectable image portrayed on the screen.

How awful for his five children to learn what sort of father they have.

Anniebach Fri 09-Aug-24 10:07:33

Joseann you must be so proud, I remember when that college active, when changed to flats it became known as
Camden Court

Joseann Fri 09-Aug-24 09:26:24

Anniebach

A great honour

I'm not sure if you can see this Anniebach, but it reads 1901 from an Eisteddfod I believe. I should have given it to Swansea University when I took them his Bible and sermons.

Callistemon213 Fri 09-Aug-24 09:25:35

I don't understand your stance on this Anniebach, sorry.

Edwards pleaded guilty.

As for the comments about his colleagues, even if they did wonder if he might have been having gay liaisons, that in itself is not a crime. It might have made others feel uncomfortable and wonder if his wife knew but consenting adults in private is not a criminal offence.
What Edwards has done is, however, truly despicable. He has pleaded guilty, probably in the hope of a lighter sentence.

He might be Welsh, hitherto respected as a serious broadcaster and received high accolades by those who knew nothing of his sleazy hidden life, but it doesn't mean he's not guilty or that there is any excuse for his behaviour.
