I know there's a thread in Sport about the games but think this deserves it's own thread.

Algerian TW boxer Imane Khelif landed a huge right hand on the Italian female competitor, forcing her to quit after just 46 seconds into the bout.

You’re right, Cossy. Just about everything on here is based on speculation as we know very few facts.

Galaxy Fri 02-Aug-24 20:01:05

Yes.

I have no idea about the person you are talking about, but do you mean the truth is dependent on what people have been through in their lives? You cant believe that surely.

Of course not. Have you read the link?

Galaxy Fri 02-Aug-24 19:58:42

Thankyou cossy for that statement, it was pouring water on the fire so to speak. I think it's of course fine for us to agree to disagree but sport needs clear guidelines.

Perhaps we just all need to agree to disagree.

None of us have actually seen either of these boxers naked bodies, birth certificates or any medically publish test results.

We might never know.

You can't always tell someone's sex from looking at their body.

Only a DNA test can do thst.

Really, Calli? Would you say that to her? After reading about all that she’s been through?

Well I wouldn't say it to their face, obviously, because I don't know that person.

No, I didn't read what they'd been through, sorry.

So would you say this person (with x and y chromosomes) is a man?

Yes.

Maybe but she wasn't forced to give up within a minute.

Brave lady!

The female boxer had to give up after 46 seconds as she was in fear for her life. She said she had never been hit so hard. Could this be because she has always boxed other women?

The boxer in question was beaten recently by another woman!

This person has XY chromosome, this means they are male.
It is a travesty for all the women boxers who have trained so hard.
They are contracted to fight so cannot protest.
It is unjust and dangerous.

I dont think they are transgender. I stated so earlier in the thread. I think probably they have a dsd.

It’s absolutely awful of any of us (& I know you didn’t) to accuse these women of things which could put them at high risk in their own countries where it might still be illegal to be either gay or transgender.

Many of you on here talk about “safe women spaces”. These are women.

Shame on you!

Who, the women boxers being bashed by these men?

pascal30 Fri 02-Aug-24 19:37:17

He certainly walks like a man

The simple truth is that there are other reasons women may quote naturally have higher testosterone levels than average, including some medical issues, Polystic Ovary Syndrome is just one and there are others.

Yes, I know someone with that.
But she is most obviously female.

He (HE) is a man. He has the XY chromosome. Females have XX chromosomes.

I don't think the IOC has grasped that.
They are not geneticists.

If you read the press, from different sources, around the entire testing process re Chromosomes, there is much information about how flawed these tests by the Russian Federation might have been.

Contrary to widespread belief, Khelif is not a male nor a transgender athlete; she was assigned female at birth. This classification hinges on the external genitalia observed at birth and is officially noted on the birth certificate.

Khelif’s biological profile presents a nuanced situation. Born female and identifying as a woman, she appears to have a condition known as differences of sex development (DSD). This condition would explain her XY chromosomes and higher testosterone levels — traits typically associated with male athletes.

Undeveloped male genitalia can present as classically female at birth therefore the wrong sex can be registered,

The only true test will be a DNA chromosome test. Raised testosterone levels in a female athlete could be a result of drug-taking, of course, which would mean disqualification.

There is absolutely nothing nuanced about it. The DSD 5ARD is only ever present in males, those with XY chromosomes. Someone with 5ARD is not a female, never was a female and never will be female. All DSDs are sex specific and only ever present in one of the sexes. It is hard on those who were mis-sexed at birth, but that doesn't excuse or give reason to cheat and disadvantage competitors.

It doesn't matter how often the truth is denied it persists in being the truth.

Thank you for this accurate and definitive post. Squashes speculation and misinformation.
