I know there's a thread in Sport about the games but think this deserves it's own thread.

Algerian TW boxer Imane Khelif landed a huge right hand on the Italian female competitor, forcing her to quit after just 46 seconds into the bout.

Yes I didnt want to derail the Olympics thread by commenting so thankyou. Male we need to just say Male (I am not getting at you smileless !) The Olympic committee, everyone involved are utter misogynists. People ring their hands about online misogynists and yet remain silent about male violence against women being shown as entertainment.

Smileless2012 Thu 01-Aug-24 13:02:36

TBH Galaxy this has put me off watching anymore of the games. I never watch boxing but have seen the video and it left me shaking with rage.

dogsmother Thu 01-Aug-24 13:05:40

It’s a shame that if the athletes in contention with a transgender couldn’t take a stand and refuse. It’s really so unjust and wrong of the Olympic committee to have allowed this travesty.

Smileless2012 Thu 01-Aug-24 13:08:00

It's also a shame that anyone's prepared to be in the audience watching a man boxing with a woman dogsmother. I fully understand that the female competitors have waited 4 years to compete in these games, but how can they possibly win against a man?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 01-Aug-24 13:10:04

I will not watch anymore of Paris Olympics, the IOC literally have blood on their hands 🤬

GrannyGravy13 Thu 01-Aug-24 13:29:36

This is the moment the male boxer wins the bout due to the Italian female boxer refusing to carry on.

Am not against trans women, let them be who they believe they were born to be but there have to some lines drawn. Sport is one of those lines. The reason why we have make and female sports is because men’s physique is naturally stronger than a woman’s. So a trans woman has an unfair advantage. This isn’t rocket science but for some reason is regularly ignored.
Am also in favour of gender neutral toilets alongside the men’s and women’s, same for changing rooms.

maddyone Thu 01-Aug-24 13:43:10

This is absolutely awful. The poor woman being told she was competing against a man. Especially in boxing. This is male violence against a woman.

Rekarie Thu 01-Aug-24 13:44:19

I find it hard to believe they banned the trans swimmer (which I agree with) but allow tranboxers to compete. Madness.

NanKate Thu 01-Aug-24 13:45:16

It is a total disgrace. The IOC are condoning this situation. The female boxer could have been killed or injured for life.

RosiesMaw2 Thu 01-Aug-24 13:50:08

The IOC needs to give itself a shake and start some joined up thinking.
"Woke" is not the same as Liberal or open minded and this is one of the most obvious examples of heinous discrimination
This us a long long-term way from Olympic ideals.

No coverage on this in the media as I have seen today. Boxing is not what I consider sport anyway so I don't watch it. This seems wrong to me.

pascal30 Thu 01-Aug-24 13:58:55

When are people going to see sense.. this is SO unfair.. The trans boxer is now in the semi finals.. unbelievable.. good for the Italian boxer bringing it to the public forum

Smileless2012 Thu 01-Aug-24 14:01:19

There was a brief mention on the BBC's lunch time news but it was said that the Algerian boxer had been cleared to compete while making no mention of the fact that he's a trans woman hmm.

Skydancer Thu 01-Aug-24 14:03:40

The world has gone mad.

Ziplok Thu 01-Aug-24 14:10:57

The world really has gone mad. It’s really obscene that this contest was allowed. Now, if it was two trans fighting each other, that would be different, but males, whether trans or not, are generally physically much stronger than women. The match should be nulled.

the BBC World at one said that she had failed a gender eligibility test in Africa

Ziplok Thu 01-Aug-24 14:13:26

That person is not a “she”, I don’t care what the pc brigade try to tell me.

Iam64 Thu 01-Aug-24 14:22:27

I won’t watch the olympics - not that it will
Change anything
What’s the matter with these idiots putting a person who went through male puberty in a boxing ring with an adult human female? It’s disastrous and unfair not in the Olympic spirit
I wish all the women competing would walk out - taking men in solidarity with them
It won’t happen understandably these athletes trained to get there

AGAA4 Thu 01-Aug-24 14:22:30

Very obvious he's a man. Allowing a man to fight against a female is disgraceful. It can never be a fair fight.

Wheniwasyourage Thu 01-Aug-24 14:24:53

Utterly disgusting as well as incomprehensible.

rafichagran Thu 01-Aug-24 14:42:26

Where is the fairness. It must be disheartening for the female boxer, training for years, and being knocked down in 46 seconds. If she lost to a female boxer fair enough, but all that training to be unfairly treated.
The IOCneed to look into this.

She refused to continue.

She conceded.

The male didn’t even win on his own merit

TerriBull Thu 01-Aug-24 14:55:08

It doesn't make any sense, a lot of categories where male bodied people compete against women are just grossly unfair. Contact sports positively dangerous to have a man competing against a woman, what will it take a competitor to be seriously injured before this insanity is halted.
