I know there's a thread in Sport about the games but think this deserves it's own thread.

Algerian TW boxer Imane Khelif landed a huge right hand on the Italian female competitor, forcing her to quit after just 46 seconds into the bout.

internal testes capable of fathering babies, male puberty and not female puberty, XY chromosomes. He is male, no doubt whatsoever. Playing the system and I hope it comes back to haunt him

The IOC spokesperson said it was not a trans issue.

I’m very surprised that Mike has come out.

MissAdventure Fri 02-Aug-24 11:29:30

Yes, years ago people were just classed as women in these cases, as it was "easier".

This poor athlete that you are all saying is a trans man is NOT! The athlete has the same ‘condition’ as Caster Seymenier (not sure of the spelling). They are neither man nor woman, I cannot imagine such a sad thing. Having said that I don’t think the bout should have taken place at all.

Sorry midgey but that's not correct. There are only two sexes male and female and every human that has ever lived falls into one or other of the categories. A tiny percentage of people are born with a DSD ( disorder or difference of sexual development) This can vary from ambiguous genitalia to the absence of testes or ovaries, to other invisible conditions identified only by genetic testing. All DSDs are sex specific, suffered by only one sex. Only males suffer the condition Caster Semenya has and that it's thought the Algerian boxer has (5-ARD) while Turner syndrome only affects females, never males.
Nowadays any baby born with ambiguous genitalia can be DNA tested to ascertain their correct sex, although this still isn't always possible in some areas of the world. Some individuals have discovered later in life they are not the sex they always thought they were and that must be devastating but it is no excuse for perpetuating the lie and using the advantage of having gone through a male puberty to cheat female athletes.

Has this person definitely fathered a child/children? The only reference to this that I’ve seen is on here, on GN.
I’m increasingly puzzled. I saw a picture of this person as a child, and it definitely looks like a girl in the picture. But the chromosomes are XY and it looks like a man now. I’m puzzled.

In between those photos (I've not seen them both so can't comment on whether the child looked like a girl or a boy) you have to insert adolescence. If this child had functioning male hormone glands, their puberty would have been fuelled by the development of male characteristics. Perhaps they had been brought up as a girl and it was only at puberty that the hormones kicked in, and that is why they self-define as female now.

There are transmen who bore children as women before transitioning - and self-identifying without early medical assistance does mean that trans people may have lived part of their lives fully as the other sex.

It's a recipe for disaster.

It's vitally important that the opponents are evenly matched, and a woman will be no match for a man in the boxing ring.

rafichagran Fri 02-Aug-24 11:04:52

It is cheating, it is assault, and it is disgusting. I for one will not boycott watching the Olympics though, these people have worked hard for years for this.

Surely he/she/they can't be feeling any satisfaction from this win? When they're old and grey they won't be able to hold up a medal and proudly say 'I won this for punching a woman in the face and making her cry'.
Its a very hollow victory.

He is definitely a male and fathered two children via his testicles

Cheat, I hope he is ostracized by all the women there

Presumably he would then get a gold medal by default!
Unless the other man posing as a woman gets the gold and he gets the silver.

It's a farce.

Even my 5 year old grandson would identify him as a man. He is obviously male.
A passport overrules a biological test that proves he is a man? As Callistemon has posted there is something very dodgy going on.

Not just that, other astonishing decisions too!

It's all very odd.

They both carry the xy chromosome, so are biologically Males, though somehow were allowed to fight as females because they had female passports ???

Because they de decided so, presumably!

There is something very dodgy happening with the female boxing at the Olympics.
I wish all the women participants would boycott it and protest.

The Algerian person who claims to be female appears to have a completely flat chest without breasts. The facial features appear male to me too, as does the height.
I’ve avoided the use of pronouns in my post, because like Galaxy I find it offensive to call a person who appears to be male, female.

Callistemon213 Thu 01-Aug-24 22:31:55

The daft IOC says that these two boxers who have been disqualified from other championships are designated as 'female' in their passports so they are therefore regarded as female by the IOC and eligible to enter the women's Olympic boxing competition.

CanadianGran Thu 01-Aug-24 22:31:29

I think the title of the thread is misleading. She is not trans, but born female with higher than normal levels of male hormones.
This does happen rarely.

It is a daunting task for the Olympic committee , but I agree that this seems an unfair fight. I did watch it.

Deedaa Thu 01-Aug-24 22:10:35

I remember some years ago seeing a person who was not intersex but asexual, having been born without the sex 0rgans of either sex. They were fascinating, with no ovaries or testes they didn't produce male or female hormones, and didn't suffer from any of the stresses that hormones cause. Competing in sports would have been impossible because they literally didn't identify as either sex. I don't think I've ever seen anyone as happy in their own skin.

MayBee70 Thu 01-Aug-24 21:56:49

Did I hear right that the Italian boxer said she was afraid for her life?

Macadia Thu 01-Aug-24 20:21:25

They call it a sport but to me, it looks like violence and I don't find that entertaining.

Every woman at the olympics should down tools that would soon sort it out
so how come ‘the wee girl’ fathered a child then Daddima

BlueBelle I made the same suggestion earlier. I acknowledged it’s unlikely to happen because of the effort the women out into being selected and - attempts to keep, politics out
This isn’t politics it’s health and safety. I don’t know enough but surely a basic risk assessment should have prevented this match
