I was listening to TRIP this morning, and they read out the legal definition of a terrorist.

I think many of the rioters were fulfil the definition.

It’s been a good result, especially the use of all those missing prison places and the assembling masses of police instead of complaints about the shortage.

I sense a smidgeon of sarcasm. The prison spaces were created by repurposing a young offenders institution and moving them elsewhere. All police leave was cancelled. Prison staff will be even more stretched than they already are. So yes, a result, at a cost. Extreme times call for extreme measures, when the alternative is not jailing people who have rioted.

He did the right thing by doing what he said he would do and acting quickly. How refreshing from a politician. Hopefully, the prison sentences and criminal records will make the hangers on think twice but the hatemongers will likely view incarceration as a badge of courage and consider themselves martyrs. Good for Starmer.

So glad to see some of the rioters are now off the streets and going to prison. A warning to others hopefully that this will not be tolerated.

Yes pathetic excuses, they sound so childish. One pensioner said his cosh was for his own protection, what else was he to do?

I can’t remember such a quick judicial response to any other events, particularly crown court, but happy to be corrected if there has been.

Starmer was in charge of the DPP in 2011 and did exactly the same then.

He knows what he is talking about.

Well, it’s been impressive. Some of the excuses given have been pathetic, if laughable - one man claimed a stone found in his pocket was for "healing purposes" . He has been jailed.

Lets not forget what we are up against.

It does feel as though we are in capable hands. Given that the government has only been in power for a month (less, when this all started) it would have been understandable if they had floundered a bit, but they didn't. I'm sure that KS's many years of experience working with anti-terrorism people will have stood him in good stead.

This may not be over yet, but I feel more confident than I did that even if it's not the organisers will be brought to justice. I also hope that some of the unfairnesses that have led to the generalised discontent that allowed this to spread will be lessened. That can't happen quickly, as the country has been left in such a mess, but if we can be patient and give the government a chance, I am hopeful for the future.

You are quite correct, it was remiss of me to say nothing about the Police.

They have to work together in terms of certain strategic discussions. Neither the Police or KS separately could devise those decisions. Everything points towards a current good relationship.

Yes, what a relief to have a PM who is in charge and for all the right reasons, supporting true British values of tolerance and inclusivity.

I am pleased Kier Starmer acted in the way he did.

I too am heartened to have a PM who knows his way around our legal system, acts promptly, condemns the thugs and does seem to care.

But what made my heart sing was last night seeing all races uniting across the country to condemn the riots.
