Well done to the police

Worked in police service till retirement January- good to read how appreciative the public feel.. they need the recognition as it’s not an easy job at all.. feel very sad that some officer injuries are quite bad - DD had wanted to be a firearms officer- I’m relieved she changed career path but totally respect those on the Front Line 🙏

I am also thinking of those police officers, who were attacked by a violent group in Manchester airport recently.
One of the officers was a woman who sustained a broken nose from these thugs.

I hope the policeman who was suspended will soon be reinstated, now a fuller picture of the events has emerged.

..and isn't this the problem. The nation is quick to pillory the police when something is apparently wrong but then they want the police to come running when things get out of hand and lawless. Selective editing of social media footage by tiktok lawyers and the like doesn't help. I'm just glad the preceding footage of the airport incident made it to air to show who the real thugs were

Yes it is worrying for families when the Police are dealing with the current situation. In addition to "holding the line" and dealing with nut cases, they are working 12 hour shifts, all rest days are cancelled and shift patterns can change at moments notice. My son is extremely tired.

Yes I agree they are human beings with families putting their lives on the line for public safety
It’s aborhant and I’m sickened but the violence that entailed .like most of us were I suspect

Thank you all for this thread.DD has been worried sick as her partner was hurt in the riots -fortunately not seriously. He could still be off but has volunteered to go back in as he wants to support his colleagues. They are all shattered as leave cancelled. But determined to do what they can to keep us all safe.I know there have been some wrong 'uns recently -Wayne Couzens eg - but the vast majority are good ,with families that worry about them.The reality is everythime they go out they never know what they will encounter with knives and guns etc.And this week has been particularly dreadful.So thank you so much for your appreciation.

I echo all the posts on here thanking our police men and women.

Over the last week we’ve watched them, on our TV screens, being physically and verbally abused by baying mobs. It must have been terrifying. Yet, they’ve acted professionally, kept control and, in doing so, have kept us all safe.

I hope those of you with police officers amongst your friends and families will thank them on our behalf … and I hope they stay safe.

How refreshing to see a post thanking the police. There has been some criticism on other threads, which I’ve stopped reading, so this is a breath of fresh air to me.

My OH was a police officer and I’d be terrified if he was working now. As WW2 has said many are quite young and I’m sure were not expecting such a level of violence, much of which directed against them, when they joined. My friend’s GS has just joined after university and he’s such a gentle young man. I hope he will be ok.

Yes, thanks to our police force, not easy fighting a raging mob, I imagine their loved ones feared for their safety.

How heartening to see such support for our police. Many have been injured trying to keep our streets safe. Big thank you from me to all those brave officers who run towards trouble when most run away.

How nice to see appreciation for our police. Yes all leave is cancelled again, I worry about burnout for my family members affected. I wonder if this appreciation will translate into a decent pay award at some point? Like all public employees they have fallen behind but without the legal right to strike their bargaining power is nil.

Well I for one wouldn’t like to stand in a row and have heavy objects thrown at me.

I too commend their responsible and professional response to the actions of those intent on causing havoc at the behest of others whose aim is to destabilise and damage.

Well done, the Police!

You know so many of them are really only young rookies with very little of life experience behind them.

They really have had a baptism of fire these past week or so and I commend them for on the whole their self restraint and courage.

I also commend their inspectors etc, who have had to make very difficult decisions on often the spur of the moment and their support and management of these young police men and women.

A job well done.

Absolutely: and many of them held their resolve whilst being subjected to verbal abuse as well as threats of violence, possibly from people they knew in their locality.

A big thank you from me for our Police. Anyone who attacks one of them should get double the sentence, without them would we be,

Thank you from me too. Our brave Police Officers deserve our gratitude. They put up with so much disrespect, spat at, vomited on, verbal abuse, physical abuse on top of the dangers they face constantly.
I sometimes wonder why anyone would choose that career in this day and age and conclude that the vast majority just want to make life better for us all.

I agree. I live in an area of London which was targeted. We were kept informed almost hourly online by the police which I thought was excellent. There were two local ram raids but little else.

A pity those jailed are only receiving sentences of 3 years. They will be out within 18 months or less.
