Donald Trump's lies

I am very concerned that such a man might become POTUS. He is utterly delusional which makes him very dangerous.
I agree with biglouis and Iam64, there is a branch of ( misogynistic) evangelical Chritians who believes his rhetoric and they will vote for him .
He won't " lose"- if he does, it will be due to " mis- counting" " stitch ups" etc etc in his strange world.

Iam64 Sat 17-Aug-24 09:10:14

You’re right about the evangelical Christian groups and the Handmaids tale, biglouis.
America is on a precipice, thank goodness Biden stepped back and Harris has changed the dynamic

I wonder if the Republicans are setting the PTSD idea running so it can be used to explain their candidates rambling, slurring , nonsense speeches. It’s possible of course that he’s genuinely suffering trauma. No excuse for his underlying personality problems though

He’s getting scarier and scarier. Hate to say it but maybe there should be a limit on the age someone could stand for President- 65,70?

I wouldnt vote if I was in America Cossy.
It's not about teams really, its about expecting people to believe a moral stance on lying when you (not you personally) havent been telling the truth.

Yes, and long may it continue. The more nutty, weird and dysfunctional he becomes the better. Then perhaps middle of the road Americans will reject him

But there are some pretty extreme "Christian" groups in USA who support him. Armed and dangerous. Reminds me of The Handmaid's Tale.

I watch clips of him for a laugh. Apparently a recent speech was lifted almost word for word from the film Legally Blonde.
I don't understand why people vote for him.

Half of America has just spent months if not years saying Biden was fine. I would say it's quite hard to be morally superior of Trumps lies when everyone has seen that.

Not really, as Biden isn’t in this race? If you supported Liverpool against Man United you wouldn’t also have to support Liverpool when they played Chelsea if you preferred the latter, would you?

BBC Verify, often analyses and deconstructs the lie in Trump's speeches.

I think he is claiming PTSD after the assasination attempt, but who knows? It could be true, but it could equally well not be true.

I say just let him keep rambling and burble all his unhinged thoughts, it can only contribute to ensuring he isn't re-elected.

Trump seems to be rapidly crumbling and descending into the unhinged, aged and disconnected individual he's accused Biden of being.

He rambles, goes off topic, says the word "things" an awful lot when his train of thought falls off a cliff, lapses into silly voices and, most bizarrely, flourishes his hands wildly as if he's playing an imaginary accordion.

His minders really need to take him to a quiet place for a nice lie-down.

I don't know the "rules", but if Trump doesn't win the election, Vance won't necessarily be the Republican candidate in 2028?

Chestnut Fri 16-Aug-24 23:59:26

I just read he may be suffering from PTSD and aging rapidly, whether that's true who knows. But just be careful what you wish for, because if he stands down then JD Vance will take his place, and he is very right wing and could be more dangerous than Trump.

Listening to a podcast today, and the opinion on there was that the election is still Trump’s to lose😧

Amen to that! We can but live in hope 🙏🙏🙏

I read this on CNN just now, his behaviour is getting increasingly bizarre - he can’t adapt to changing his rhetoric for a different opponent at all by the sound of it. Millions of Americans must have read this.

Trump is unbalanced, just as are his supporters. I hope and pray he’s never ever re-elected.

There was a time when lies were lauded and praised as 'being like us' which makes us all liars.

I'm glad those times may now at last be over.

varian Fri 16-Aug-24 20:04:24

It is well established that Trump is a habitual liar but the right wing media in the US, especially broadcasters such as Fox News give him unlimited publicity and never challenge or fact check his lies.

Here is what we see when his spurious claims are actually fact checked.
