Have to say this sounds like a non news story but it seems some are getting hot under the collar about it. Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with a young woman like Angela enjoying a holiday in Ibiza and dancing in a nightclub. She wasn't doing anything wrong.
I like the fact that Angela is from a working class background in the North, the same as me, it makes her far more in touch with those who feel that politicians recently are on another planet. She also has fire in her belly and God forbid a love of life. Reminds me of a young Barbara Castle.
Keep on dancing Ang, but keep your smartest moves for those opposite you in the HoC.

I said nothing about the previous incumbents. I have no idea what they did in private. I did not notice any drug taking during PMQs! What information do you have, eggplant?

IOMG: Sorry, did not understand the vocabulary used. Words outside my sphere of knowledge.

You shouldn’t condemn one person without first checking whether other senior politicians have done similar or the same, surely, as that would be biased?

All names for Cocaine. T be off ones tits on it means to be under the influence of a substance. The link is Boris dancing at an event that many people attended. The prevalence of drug residue found in the House of Commons toilets is a matter of public record. Consider that an education in contemporary life. PS I am 66 years old, a middle class, educated just retired IT professional so maybe someone you could relate to on the social scale?

That must be ok then.

House of Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle contacted police over reports of cocaine used in the UK Parliament.
A report in the Sunday Times said cocaine traces were found in 11 of 12 bathrooms tested in the parliamentary estate.
The paper reported that there's a "cocaine culture" in Parliament that includes household names and young MPs.

It's fine to hold those values across the board, fairly, but mention the torys many indiscretions and it all goes quiet.

Syracute: And what exactly is wrong with being "old-fashioned"? If it involves behaving in a seemly manner, being seen by the world and ostensibly running the country. The woman can do what she wants behind closed doors but, as a representative of this country? In public? Unacceptable, in my view.

There’s nothing wrong with being old fashioned, but those who are must accept that society as a whole does not share those values, it moves ever on. Being seen in a bar or nightclub, dancing, on holiday, with a drink in your hand, does not make you incapable of doing your day job. Numerous politicians of all parties have done it before Angela Rayner did, and will do it in the future - because it’s normal.

What year are we in? Anyone remember Gove dancing off his tits on coke? Or maybe Kwarteng giggling to himself also off his tots on Charlie at the Queens funeral? Allegedly of course. AR merely danced on holiday. What do you think about the prevalence of Colombian Marching Powder in the HoCs toilets? All this during the Conservative governments time? To my mind this is something to disapprove of in my book.
If you want someone dancing badly and letting the UK down try this.

What did you think about some of the tory shenanigans, then?

eggplant Thu 05-Sept-24 14:29:02

" a seemly manner"

Like those cocaine sniffing liars we had previously?

Oh Please!!!

Believe me, I don’t stay polite out of choice.
This is a site where expressing what you really think is frowned upon.
We don’t want to upset the horses, do we 😉

I remember MumsNet. Trouble is I have spent my time on Twitter since 2020 and it's a feral free for all there, so maybe they have it right. I just get exercised about prejudice and unfairness, especially directed towards women. Suppose I will learn the ropes. Gives and emoji a whirl.. confused

Oh you absolutely must stay, IOMGran
The forum needs differing opinions, whether it likes them or not.

You sound exactly the person for the job! smile

I'll second that

And I’ll third that!

Meanwhile, there is Angela, grasping the nettle and getting on with the day job. This is what matters.

Staying polite is of paramount importance. One must stay polite, include jolly little faces, amusing anedotes about nail varnish and so on.

I just hope the nastiness towards AR stops. It's getting very boring and we've a long way to go to the next election.

I think this is probably not the forum for me, how everyone else stays polite to this idiocy is probably beyond me.

Eloethan

They are always throwing stuff at Angela Rayner. They hate her working class background and everything she does is criticised. Pathetic.

Eloethan it’s not that AR has a working class background- it’s just that certain posters have very old fashioned ideas about the presentation of self in high public office. We can’t help having an expectation of professional behaviour in public office. What matters more though is how the country is run and at the moment, we are wondering how far down the line we go before the IMF takes over….

Are you being serious? I have spent the last 14 years watching the country being ruined by the biggest bunch of amateur chancers, who managed to crash the economy and kill loads of people with their mismanagement of a pandemic, seemingly more interested in handing lucrative contracts to their donors and cronies, and you post this? Did you watch Farage in the EU parliament breaking every rule of professionalism and courtesy? I expect you think he's a fine bloke eh? What exactly has AR done to you? We don't need men to oppress us when we have women like you to do it for them.
