Angela Rayner dancing whilst on holiday in Ibiza

Have to say this sounds like a non news story but it seems some are getting hot under the collar about it. Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with a young woman like Angela enjoying a holiday in Ibiza and dancing in a nightclub. She wasn't doing anything wrong.
I like the fact that Angela is from a working class background in the North, the same as me, it makes her far more in touch with those who feel that politicians recently are on another planet. She also has fire in her belly and God forbid a love of life. Reminds me of a young Barbara Castle.
Keep on dancing Ang, but keep your smartest moves for those opposite you in the HoC.

I cannot stand Starmer. That photo of him and Angela Rayner taking the knee made my stomach churn.

Casdon Sat 07-Sept-24 22:33:07

Yes, I rest my case Mollygo, people will make their own minds up.

Mollygo Sat 07-Sept-24 22:20:20

Casdon
It’s about honesty in declaration and proportionality in my book.

Proportionality-nice excuse word. If you take less, it’s excusable.

I don’t get your point about not comparing the actions of a party in power with the previous government at all - what other comparator is there?

Thank you. Bearing in mind that I didn’t support all the actions of previous governments either,
the number of criticisms I’ve had for comparing governments is unbelievable.

I must remember what other comparator is there?

e.g. comparing Starmer objecting to the previous government proposing to cut WFA to fill A black hole, but thinking it’s a good idea when he proposes it.

Good grief. So she’s now accused of reverse snobbery. It seems to me that everything she says or does annoys people sad

The more they criticise, the more it shows up how small-minded and spiteful some people are.

Thanks for that. So my opinion that AR had no need to point out her origins as a reason why she likes to dance have made me small minded and spiteful, and apparently everything she says or does annoys me. What insight you have into my thoughts; what assumptions you make.

Yes MissA

You can express whatever you want to, but so can others, and they may not align with your thoughts, or Jeremy Clarkson's.

ronib Sat 07-Sept-24 22:08:41

Iam64 no my husband is a trained philosopher. - nothing so banal as that. He worries more about the lack of freedom of political expression etc. However I was a bit nonplussed to find myself agreeing with Jeremy Clarkson who wishes Starmer and Rayner would spend the next 52 weeks in Ibiza dancing - as that would save us from their brand of socialism. I honestly think this government has a lot to learn in the presentation of both itself and its policies.

Iam64 Sat 07-Sept-24 21:49:18

Is he worried you’re mixing with a den of on line political activists. Most of whom quite like Angela and certainly aren’t feared of her

ronib Sat 07-Sept-24 21:47:02

Casdon well I am glad to hear that you are a gran and not a political activist. I shall reassure my husband…..

Thanks Mollygo good point. My husband has just said basically don’t bother arguing with political activists …. So much for free speech.

Quote of the Day 🙈😆

MissAdventure Sat 07-Sept-24 21:41:14

And Angela danced on... smile

Well, if we want to discuss politicians being funded by a donor to buy things, let's not forget Lord Brownlow secretly funding the renovations for Boris's Downing Street flat (and then being forced to pay the money back!) www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/boris-johnson-wallpaper-gold-flat-carrie-invoice-b2118185.html

So in comparison, a few clothes and spectacles are a mere snip at the price.

Casdon Sat 07-Sept-24 21:22:03

Who is a political activist on this site does your husband think ronib? I’m not one for the record, just a normal gran whose views are very different to yours, and equally valid. I think you’ll find that’s the norm on here, we all just say what we think.

Lord Alli - donated clothes and spectacles worth £20k to Keir Starmer. One donor.
Multiple benefits doubtless.

No point in saying that. All accusations against Starmer or the LP will be met by “well the last government. . .” Or
“Well Boris . . .” as if the person commenting about Starmer or the LP, endorsed or condoned the actions of the previous government.
“He did it first” is a playground excuse.
It has never made similar actions any more acceptable.

It’s not a similar action - unless you are suggesting that no political party member should ever accept a donation from anybody. It’s about honesty in declaration and proportionality in my book. I don’t get your point about not comparing the actions of a party in power with the previous government at all - what other comparator is there?

Iam64 Sat 07-Sept-24 21:05:12

Surely you arent comparing a declared amount for specific purpose with dodgy dealings by a former PM with the kgb, with a former kgb officer getting a peerage

So much more savory getting hundreds of thousands from dubious Russians eh? If this is the best that can be thrown at Starmer et al, then you have a very big problem.

It’s clear the media searched for scandal about Starmer. The donkey field he bought so his mum could watch through the window seems to have been the extent of his misdemeanours
Light years away from Mr Johnson and Russian kgb (allegedly)

Fabulous Angela! What a woman.

MissAdventure Sat 07-Sept-24 20:03:22

Alli donated twenty thousand pounds, but has always donated generously.
In return, he was given a temporary pass that expired at the end of August.

Apparently.

00opsidia Sat 07-Sept-24 19:54:07

Dancing is great for your health.

grin Some people need to get out more.
