Have to say this sounds like a non news story but it seems some are getting hot under the collar about it. Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with a young woman like Angela enjoying a holiday in Ibiza and dancing in a nightclub. She wasn't doing anything wrong.
I like the fact that Angela is from a working class background in the North, the same as me, it makes her far more in touch with those who feel that politicians recently are on another planet. She also has fire in her belly and God forbid a love of life. Reminds me of a young Barbara Castle.
Keep on dancing Ang, but keep your smartest moves for those opposite you in the HoC.

IOMGran no vodka so is not my drink - I have a bottle won in a raffle, perhaps I should donate to AR?
However if I had ever climbed the slippery slope to become Deputy PM, I would make sure that work was my complete priority and that all my efforts were directed at the job. After all, letting off steam only two months in to the role is a red flag?

Ah, I fear you will never be tested in that was as you're not really in her achievement class. Never mind eh. So are you suggesting no weekend breaks for her? When will you graciously allow her to have a little holiday? Next year maybe? Perhaps you could write her a chit. Did you used to work in HR, you have that air about you, if you don't mind me observing? Or maybe a doctors receptionist?

MissAdventure Sat 07-Sept-24 17:33:24

Well, you didn't though, did you?

Good grief. So she’s now accused of reverse snobbery. It seems to me that everything she says or does annoys people sad

Ain't that the truth.

Quite right Jane, only approved spirit for us ladies is gin, ask ronib. Or pearls will be clutched and pandemonium will ensue as the accepted order breaks down and society whirls around that great pan. Heaven forfend a working class woman has a holiday and a night out. Shame she couldn't spend it on Necker Island but I think she's not in anyone's pocket so that was not possible.

She will seem more approachable and in touch with many people than some politicians who may seem aloof.

Or completely out of touch with reality like 30p Lee.

You cannot separate politicians from their personality.

The more they criticise, the more it shows up how small-minded and spiteful some people are.

If people want to criticise Angela Rayner or any politician for that matter I wish they would stick to criticism of their politics and not their personality. I can’t stand AR’s politics but can’t help thinking she has something admirable about her.

I felt disappointed by the 'reverse snobbery' of Angela Rayner herself - 'I'm working class - I like a dance.' Who doesn't like to dance?

Listen to the interview, there's no inverted snobbery, she's defending herself not attacking others. She's very good humoured and chilled about the criticism she gets.

I might have got up and danced with her 35 years ago and even shown her a move or two, but not now.

I’m just in from my tai chi class. The recent posts have added to my happy feeling. grumppa, I particularly enjoyed your post at 11.43 today, thank yiu.

Dickens anyway, it isn’t about a middle aged woman dancing on holiday, it’s about snobbery, misogyny and political point scoring . You are so right

You're so right @Iam64

Snobbery, misogyny and point scoring are deeply unattractive habits and anyone who needs to sexualise someone just because they dance, obviously doesn't dance and probably can't cope with seeing other people enjoying themselves. It takes a lot of confidence to wear a red dress and dance. It might bother people who dont feel confident or physically able, or misogynists who would prefer women not to express enjoyment of anything?

Mamie

There have been some bonkers threads around this summer. I have sometimes been reminded of the response that used to appear on Mumsnet, "Are you on glue?" 😂

Just a glass of NZ vino, Mamie
Cheers 🍷

No vodka here.

ronib Fri 06-Sept-24 18:44:59

Well it’s been great as I’ve had to rest my foot all week - and no I didn’t go dancing unfortunately.

Casdon Fri 06-Sept-24 18:39:02
