Just heard that the 12 year old who was arrested for being involved in the August riots was in court for sentencing today. He was actively involved in two of the major incidents, which is bad enough, but...today..the judge had to defer sentence because the child's Mother had just gone on holiday to Ibiza!

Anniebach Mon 02-Sept-24 13:32:14

And he is only 12 !

Skydancer Mon 02-Sept-24 13:33:59

Shows the sort of family he comes from.

nanaK54 Mon 02-Sept-24 13:42:07

That should tell the judge so much...

Just shows you what the mother's sense of priorities is...

I once held a very important meeting regarding a 15 year old who had huge behavioural issues. Neither he or mother turned up, so I phoned mother on her mobile. She was in Spain on holiday and asked ‘what did I want her to do about him’.
As you can imagine it didn’t end well.
I suspect this poor lad will end up in custodian care. I can only hope that life will get better for him.

With whom did Ms Ibiza leave her about- to- be- sentenced child? Quite a responsibility.
Perhaps she shares Katie Price's views on the judiciary, that her holiday plans come first in her priorities, and that, surely, the courts understand that.

He never stood a chance of a normal civilised life with a mother like that.

Visgir1 Mon 02-Sept-24 14:33:42

Unbelievable.. My mate who is in the Police, have to "detain" younger teenagers.
Before they can question them they have to contact their parents or guardian. She said she was surprised at first how many parents refuse to attend until the next day.

Someone will suggest it’s Angela Rayner’s son soon

Grantanow Mon 02-Sept-24 14:47:41

Perhaps the local authority should send a social worker to Ibiza to interview her.

Doodledog Mon 02-Sept-24 14:48:40

That poor boy. Obviously his behaviour was awful, but what chance has he had? I suppose it's possible that his parents are separated and he was with his dad?

As for the Tory councillor's wife - how can people hold views like that? It's really beyond me. Differences of opinion are one thing, but how anyone can want fellow humans to burn alive is incomprehensible.

JaneJudge Mon 02-Sept-24 14:49:32

His Uncle went to court with him

Doodledog Mon 02-Sept-24 14:51:03

I hope J52 is right and he's taken into care. He needs someone to look after him.

Way to go JJ!!!!!

Ibiza - well that’s a strange coincidence. Poor lad so young to be before the courts. I hope he is helped.

The child was accompanied to court by his uncle.
Er, is it pointless to ask ".........and where is the father?"

BigBopper Mon 02-Sept-24 16:19:36

Yes Mael3, I do think it is pointless to ask.

AGAA4 Mon 02-Sept-24 16:27:50

No wonder this child has gone completely off the rails. His mother doesn't give a toss. Her holiday is more important than her son.

Darwin must spend all his heavenly time shouting down "I told you so!!"

There seems to be a whole underbelly of society living on an alternative planet of which I have no understanding and which constantly shocks me.

And I wouldn't say I've lived anything like a "sheltered" life.

AND I've definitely danced in night clubs in Ibiza grinwink

Indigo8 Mon 02-Sept-24 16:39:45

Being from a deprived background does necessarily mean you will turn out bad. Neither does going to Eton and Oxbridge mean that you will be an honest, caring citizen.

Doodledog Mon 02-Sept-24 16:41:10

Nobody has said otherwise.

What people have said is that a 12 year old who has been left to his own devices needs someone to care for him.

HousePlantQueen Mon 02-Sept-24 16:46:57

I just think it is dreadful, the indifference to her child's future. I was going to say surely she could claim on her travel insurance, but that is making the huge assumption that (a) she has some (b) there is such a clause. I check my travel insurance rigorously, but have not needed to check the "neglected child gets arrested for rioting" clause. Sorry, this is not funny and I should not make flippant remarks.
