She was probably advised that the case would be deferred, that aside there is nothing uncommon about parents allowing 12yr olds out on the street unsupervised.

I don't think anyone has said that. But surely a mother going on holiday to Ibiza when her 12 year old is due in court facing serious charges speaks volumes about that child's background. How can anyone say her child is being taught to have any decent values or is being given any proper guidance in life.
The mother may have her own issues but it is clear she is not a suitable parent and her son should never have been left in her sole care (if that's what happened).

I just think it is dreadful, the indifference to her child's future. I was going to say surely she could claim on her travel insurance, but that is making the huge assumption that (a) she has some (b) there is such a clause. I check my travel insurance rigorously, but have not needed to check the "neglected child gets arrested for rioting" clause. Sorry, this is not funny and I should not make flippant remarks.

That poor boy. Obviously his behaviour was awful, but what chance has he had? I suppose it's possible that his parents are separated and he was with his dad?

As for the Tory councillor's wife - how can people hold views like that? It's really beyond me. Differences of opinion are one thing, but how anyone can want fellow humans to burn alive is incomprehensible.

Perhaps the local authority should send a social worker to Ibiza to interview her.

Unbelievable.. My mate who is in the Police, have to "detain" younger teenagers.
Before they can question them they have to contact their parents or guardian. She said she was surprised at first how many parents refuse to attend until the next day.

He never stood a chance of a normal civilised life with a mother like that.

With whom did Ms Ibiza leave her about- to- be- sentenced child? Quite a responsibility.
Perhaps she shares Katie Price's views on the judiciary, that her holiday plans come first in her priorities, and that, surely, the courts understand that.

I once held a very important meeting regarding a 15 year old who had huge behavioural issues. Neither he or mother turned up, so I phoned mother on her mobile. She was in Spain on holiday and asked ‘what did I want her to do about him’.
As you can imagine it didn’t end well.
I suspect this poor lad will end up in custodian care. I can only hope that life will get better for him.
